Cooperative Features- March & April 2021

By Gary Baker, Director of Marketing & Public Relations

On February 2nd, Buckeye Chuck declared six more weeks of winter. This came right in the middle of a winter that was already making its mark. The first few months of 2021 brought a return to extreme winter weather in Ohio. While we are used to working in snow and extremely cold Gary Baker temperatures, we experienced challenges during the snow filled months of January and February that we do not want to repeat. One of those challenges was to safely deliver propane to all our members.

We ask our propane members to submit a meter read monthly. Why? The answer is simple. We want to avoid a situation like the one in the picture. Our propane team knows our members, and the challenges that may (or may not exist) when filling each propane tank. This is why we ask you to report the amount of propane in your tank each month. It allows us to plan safe deliveries. When we know extreme weather snowy weather and cold temperatures are coming our way, we can make sure you have the fuel you need (when you need it). When you talked to our member service representatives last month, they likely spent more time asking if your driveway was clear and tank accessible. As your cooperative we must determine if the driveway or lane is safe enough to deliver the propane. Our trucks weigh 50,000 lbs when they are empty. Once we add heavy fuel. We need icy driveways treated with sand or salt, and our propane bobtails need a ten foot wide clearance (at a minimum). We must avoid unplowed driveways and icy terrain.

All of our drivers are safe, and we want to keep it that way. Here is how you can help.

Propane member checklist

1. Keep driveways and/or lanes maintained creating a clear, safe path to your propane tank.

2. Understand that we cannot deliver propane if the pathway to the tank is not safe.

3. Submit monthly meter reads so we can plan safe deliveries.

4. If you order bulk propane, be sure to check the level of your tank regularly and let us know when it is close to 30%.

How to submit a meter reading

You can submit a propane meter read multiple ways. Find the one that works best for you.

Visit myenergycoop.com/propane to enter your monthly meter reading.

Return your meter read along with the paper copy of your monthly bill.

Provide a member service representative with your meter reading by calling 1-800-255-6815 or chat with us from myenergycoop.com.

Don’t forget to submit a meter reading monthly, even when you are not using much propane. This helps us stay ahead of the game when a cold snap occurs.
