The “Wynn”ing course for a DP coordinator SAMANTHA RUUD|GUEST WRITER Ever since Eric Wynn, the Diploma Program Coordinator at Huron High School was a child, his parents had a specific dream for him. His father, a Yale Law School graduate, wanted his son to follow in his path. He wanted Wynn to be a stellar student in middle and high school, go to Yale for college, then be a lawyer. Wynn, on the other hand, wanted the complete opposite- so that’s exactly what he did.

“When I was six, my dad took me to Yale, when I was 10 my dad took me to Yale, and when I was 15 my dad took me

to Yale,” Wynn said. “That was my parent’s expectations for me. That was where I was supposed to go.”

Wynn ended up going to college at the University of McGill, in Montreal, Canada.

He had lived in Canada his whole life up to that point, so it wasn’t a major change for him.

In order to go to McGill, someone should be able to speak French. There are some classes that are only offered in French.

“Since I lived in Canada, I already knew French so that wasn’t as big of an issue for me,” Wynn said.

While Wynn was still in college, the summer

after his sophomore year, one of his friends said there was a summer school job opening in Connecticut at one of the high schools. He went down to the school and started teaching.

“I ended up really enjoying it,” Wynn said.

“I enjoyed the connections, the practice and the idea that it was a career in which I didn’t have to take myself so seriously.”

Wynn lived in a very serious household growing up. His father was a lawyer and his mother worked at a bank, so they set very high expectations for him. In elementary school, he tested into the gifted program. The school assumed those kids in the program were smart Eric Wynn works in the International Baccalaureate office. enough to figure things out themselves, so Wynn didn’t learn much in those years since there was not very much instruction. When he got to middle school, those years in elementary school came back to haunt him. It was very challenging for him to keep up, so he began to fall behind and he failed a lot of classes. This made his parents decide to put him in an all boys religious high school.

“I wore a jacket and tie every day, and I had to have shiny shoes,” Wynn said. “You couldn’t chew gum, you couldn’t have any visible jewelry.”

It was strict, but he thinks it was a good experience because it ended up helping him become a better teacher.

“It made me realize exactly how I didn’t want to teach,” Wynn said. “I didn’t want to be that mean teacher that everyone hated because I had been in that position before.”

Eric Wynn ended up teaching at many different schools all over the country, but he eventually landed in Michigan. He helped in the founding of WiHi, an IB school in Ypsilanti, and is now helping convert Huron to an IB school.

While he misses the classroom, Wynn has enjoyed his time at Huron so far. He especially enjoys the unique environment that Huron has compared to other schools.

“If it happens in real life, it happens at Huron,” Wynn said. “If there is something that happens out in the real world, it could be replicated here because of diversity, different viewpoints and the mutual respect that exists in the building.”

With 14 years of experience under his belt, Wynn looks forward to seeing the transformation of Huron to be a world IB school.

“I want to see student education in the building and district transform to the 21st century model, and IB is the way to accomplish that,” Wynn said.

Money turned to digital gold: The rise of Bitcoin ANDREW ALSON | GUEST WRITER In a world turning digital, it seems like a logical progression to turn to digital money. A currency born of but no longer driven by sin, Bitcoin is an intriguing experiment that has sparked its own asset class riddled with controversy and a bullish rise leaving world governments on edge.

The Bitcoin network, or Blockchain, runs off of a peer-topeer network of nodes, meaning that the Bitcoin network has no central authority, and users act as their own bank. Each node works to keep the others in line, and with this system, no transaction can break Bitcoin’s consensus rules. Additionally, this means that money can be sent across borders anywhere in the world without the intervention of a central government.

As defined by the Greek philosopher Aristotle, money must be durable, portable, divisible, originative, and have intrinsic value. Being a digital currency, Bitcoin is infinitely durable, divisible (to eight or more decimal places), and portable in an increasingly digital world. The perceived value of Bitcoin comes from it’s network of nodes, but the clear argument against Bitcoin as a form of money is that is holds no intrinsic value. So, the debate of Bitcoin as a form of money remains undecided.

“Yes, it qualifies as a medium of exchange,” Tucker said.

“The reason I say this is that it doesn’t matter what we use as a medium of exchange as long as it’s agreed upon by a society or group. With changes in technology, it only makes sense that, if we can update checks into debit cards, we can update coins into Bitcoins.”

Furthermore, “the great scaling debate” has split the Bitcoin community in two. As Bitcoin climbs towards all time highs, the network is becoming increasingly full, and it is no longer capable of handling the transactions demanded by the users.

The scaling debate has led to the censorship and destructuring of the Bitcoin community. With Bitcoin continuing to grow, a scaling solution is desperately needed. Both sides are fully aware of the severity of the situation, but neither is willing to budge, even as early investors lose faith in the community—a $15 billion game of chicken.

Bitcoin’s rise has been a roller coaster ride. It’s an inherently volatile currency, fluctuating regularly in value and seeing huge swings of 25 percent or more in a day. The hacking of major exchanges has occurred repeatedly, sending the price plummeting. Mining, or the creation of new coins, has become massively prevalent and concentrated in China, causing turbulence in a currency built to be decentralized. Bitcoin was

created by a mysterious figure called Satoshi Nakamoto, who holds over one million coins.

A large portion of Bitcoin’s rise can be contributed to its adoption as the currency for deep web marketplaces such as the Silk Road, where illegal goods are anonymously bought and sold. This initial adoption got Bitcoin off the ground and set the foundation for the digital asset that it is now.

Ask an experienced Bitcoiner, and they will almost always tell you that Bitcoin is not an investment, citing the volatility and experimental nature of the currency. However, those who have invested in Bitcoin have seen lucrative rewards. The ones who held coins since they were less than penny each are now millionaires, but those who pour money into Bitcoin regularly are still seeing massive gains by simply holding their coins.

Price is driven up constantly by the army of holders in the Bitcoin community The reality is that there is still much to be determined about Bitcoin. It’s not money by the definition of the word, it’s not a payment processor to replace VISA, nor is it an investment, according to the investors. But with Bitcoin thriving as fiat currencies fail and traditional investments falter, and with adoption following an S-curve, Bitcoin could be poised for a historic bull run for the ages.

Library grants literacy HARLEY HAGEN | EDITOR-IN -CHIEF Receiving grants and federal dollars seems to be a rare occurrence for public schools these days. That being said, when Huron librarians Jennifer Colby and Lauren Warren received word of a 4,900 grant awarded to the Huron High School media center, they were thrilled.

As many as 22 other schools in the Ann Arbor Public Schools district also received literacy grants, including Mitchell Elementary, Clague Middle School and Pioneer High School. According to the AAPS District News, the Pioneer grant was received for students taking the National Latin Exam.

Ms.Colby and Ms.Warren submitted their grant proposal to help the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in November 2016 by updating the Gale Virtual Reference library.

“Executive Director Linh Song and Program Manager Jinny Potter, came to award the grant to us,” Colby said.” Mr. Sumerton came to the library and surprised us with a framed document that entitled the amount of money that

was granted to us.”

The Gale Virtual Reference Library has been available to students for about six years, according to Ms.Warren. In total, they purchased 17 new editions for the virtual library.

“The titles we purchased include many historical books such as Speeches in World History, American History through American Sports: From Colonial Lacrosse to Extreme Sports, and Globalists: Artists of Worldwide Revolution. Because the grant was a literacy grant, we also bought many encyclopedias such as The Encyclopedia of Twentieth-Century Fiction, Encyclopedia of The Novel, A Companion to African American Literature, and A Companion to Latin American Literature and Culture. These are only a few titles.

However, we (Colby and Warren) can help you access them.”

The Huron bands take the stage PETER KALEMKERIAN | GUEST WRITER The Huron Band kicked off the new year on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 with their annual Winter Concert. The concert started with the Varsity Band, led by Assistant Band Director Allison Hendricks. They played three tunes including the “Mazama,” a piece written by Jay Chattaway about an ancient volcanic explosion. Band members, including sophomore flutist Maranda Watts, really enjoyed playing their performance.

“I liked the entire performance,” Watts said.

“Especially ‘Mazama.’”

Following the performance by Varsity Band, Concert Band took the stage. The highlight of their performance was their piece “Man In the Ice.” “Man In the Ice” was about an ancient man who was unearthed in the mountains.

The piece was masterfully played and many audience members, along with members of Varsity and Symphony band really enjoyed it.

Watts also shared her thoughts about Concert Band.

“Concert band sounded really, really good,” Watts said. “I was very, very impressed, especially by “Galop,” the last piece that they played.”

The highlight of the concert was undoubtedly Symphony Band, directed by Stephen Rob-

erts, who has been at Huron for 27 years. The most select band ensemble at Huron, Symphony Band played three pieces, beginning with the well known “Children’s March” by Percy Grainger. The march tune began quietly with a bassoon and tenor sax solo theme which gradually grew throughout the song as other sections such as the euphoniums, trombones, and trumpets echo that theme. Following “Children’s March,” the band performed “Poseidon,” a piece written by composer Julie Giroux about the Greek god of water. The piece was very well liked by both band and audience members.

“It sounded really good,” junior trombonist Yuki Mori said. “I think everyone liked our performance.”

Sophomore Sophie Smit, another member of the trombone section, also offered her thoughts on the concert.

“The whole concert sounded really good,” Smit said. “Especially ‘Poseidon’ and our last piece ‘Danza Final.’”

Kevin Tan, the first chair saxophonist, also thought the entire concert went very well.

“All of the bands sounded great,” Tan said.

“I’m in Symphony Band, and all of our pieces went very well. Everyone did an excellent job.”

Audience member Nick Rau also offered his thoughts on the concert and what he thought

about Symphony Band’s performance.

“Everybody performed really well and the pieces was very nice listen to,” Rau said. “Symphony Band was excellent, especially their last piece, when they all stood up and played. Even though I don’t listen to that many bands, Symphony Band was one of the best bands I’ve heard.

The media: They provide us with an Staff Editorial array of informationranging from American and global politics, to sporting events, celebrity dramas to of course, disaster and catastrophe. As Americans, we have the ability to receive information from radio stations, television, magazines, online websites and of course, social media. But we really need to ask ourselves, are the ways we get our news valid and more importantly, are the sources we trust, actually trustworthy?

Journalism in general will always be slightly biased. As humans, we have opinions on almost everything-ranging from people to ideas to objects. That being said, we as a society, have a tendency to assert our opinions in whatever we are writing, thinking or saying. Our opinions and beliefs are a part of us; they’re part of our identity. They’re how we express ourselves. That’s why it can be so tough for journalists to keep their opinions out of a story, even when reporting on smaller

news stories.

However, we have to trust the media that the news they report is true and accurate because it’s the only way for us to receive information at a quick speed. In exchange, media organizations have to produce accurate stories with strong content to keep their viewers and stay in business. This contract has worked for years, but in the 21st century this contract has changed some- it’s being abused ever so slightly by particular organizations.

Most of us can agree some of the media frames particular stories, or tries to swing stories a particular ways to influence the opinion of their followers. However, they still retain viewers because people who share those beliefs will always have a tendency to follow that news source over others. This has led to the strong media divide we are seeing, most evident with politics.

As citizens, we have an obligation to stay up to date with the current events because they often affect us. However, it is important that we do not always believe what the media reports, especially social media. Furthermore,

we can not let the media decide our opinions for us- that’s our responsibility and duty as citizens.

Now, there is an attack on the media by the current administration and others. Although people may not like everything reported or may feel there is a bias against them, the media is essential for the operation of society.

However, it is important that people who feel attacked by the media let their opinions be heard.

As the newspaper of this school, we The Emery staff make our commitment to youthat we will work our hardest and best to tell the story like it is and report school news quickly and accurately for this school to function best.

Why the Electoral College still stands Jack Harrison | STAFF WRITER

The presidential election may be over, but discussions about the election certainly are not.

One conversation that is very much open is about the Electoral College. With Trump’s win over Hillary Clinton in the College, but a loss in the popular vote, there is a movement to replace the College with the popular vote for future presidential elections. At first glance, it makes sense the candidate with the most votes should win, since the count represents the people’s choice. However, we need to understand the purpose of the College to evaluate if eliminating it is the right decision for America. Making such a major decision cannot be implemented because a candidate and its party are sore losers.

When the framers were crafting the United States government, there was debate over how to balance the interests and power between more populous and less populous states. In other words, the smaller states needed to be protected from the larger ones. This was why they devised the College. So, what is it and how does it differ from the popular vote.

In the popular vote, voters go to the polls and cast their ballot for their candidate. Those votes count towards the popular vote. For example, 100,000 votes for Trump counts as 100,000 popular votes for Trump. However, voters are actually voting for electors in their state to cast their vote on their behalf. Each state has a set number of electoral votes available. So, in that same example, 100,000 votes for Trump could represent 10 Electoral College votes in one state. While 200,000 votes for Hillary Clinton could represent 5 Electoral College votes. Therefore, 100,000 votes less than Clinton votes gives Trump 10 more votes in the College.

It may seem unfair, but the original issues that birthed the Electoral College are still relevant and the College has done a very good job of dividing and balancing power among states across the nation. Here’s how:

The College gives more populated states more delegates than small states to represent the larger portion of the electorate, so the more populous states do have some advantage. In return, however, the smaller states have their own powers. Without them, they would be completely overrun by the larger populated states.

Let’s keep digging. The states with many delegates and large populations historically favor one party. As evidence, note how little time is spent campaigning in states such as California, Texas, and New York. Because of the College, candidates must spend time in the less populated states because these states now matter, which they wouldn’t if it was just about the popular vote. The College also gives voters in smaller states equal opportunity with the candidates, allowing them to have a voice and make a more educated decision.

If the election were based only on the popular vote, much of America would not be represented, which many do not realize when they deem the College unfair. Candidates would only campaign in very populous cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, and Philadelphia, leaving out the small cities altogether. If a candidate could secure a majority of voters in the big cities, they could win the election and ignore the majority of other states in the Midwest and Central regions. Then we would live in the United Cities of Los Angeles and New York City!

The 2016 election was determined by Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. But under a popular vote, the voters in these states would not have mattered. Candidates would not campaign to voters like you and your parents. They may only advocate for policies helping people in large cities and it could cost us big time. Michigan jobs and values could be forgotten, and perhaps our region would be totally disregarded in policy making.

Within larger cities, there is a large population of minorities, and they often lean Democratic. This is why I believe some liberals want a popular vote. They think their candidate will win the minority support, since they cater to them just for their votes. However,

on a side note, in this election, Trump gained more minority support than Mitt Romney. I think this is because many minorities realize Democrats are not keeping their promises.

Both Clinton and Trump made seven to eight stops in Ohio from Aug. 15 to Election Day. Clinton made five to six stops in Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina. Similarly, Trump made three to four stops in these states. Lastly, both candidates made one to two stops from Aug. 15 to Election Day in Nevada, Colorado and New Hampshire. The point here is that none of these states are in the top five most populated and only four are in the top 20 most populated states. This means, without the Electoral College, candidates would campaign only in Pennsylvania, Ohio and North Carolina. This means, these other smaller states would receive almost no coverage nor have candidates campaign in their state.

Like anything, the Electoral College does have its cons. Typically, candidates focus more on swing states than others. However, after this election I think many states will get a fair share of campaigning in the future.

Another flaw is that electors do not necessarily have to represent the people from their state, but very rarely are there faithless electors, who vote differently than their people.

Remember, they have never come close to altering an election vote. Lastly, the popular vote can differ than the college result, as seen this year, but not everyone argues this is a negative aspect. It just means candidates need to campaign to win the Electoral College.

There are now other solutions to the college such as the district plan, proportional dividing of delegates, the 50 percent plan and the adding of delegates to the college.

I encourage you to read up on these plans because some offer very good solutions to the College.

Spring sports start March 13. In order to play spring sports you must have a physical on file in the athletic office. You can’t do anything until all forms are submitted and receipt for play to play in the athletic office. You can get a physical at your doctors office, Concentra on State Street, or anywhere physicals are offered. To upload all documents and to do pay to play, you must go through Rec&Ed. If you have free/reduced lunch, you have to go to the athletic lobby first for a form that a parent needs to complete and then they will give you the form with pay to play instructions.

Huron’s annual Art Night took place Jan. 19 this year, it’s a gallery walk to show off all the students’ hard work from the semester. From ceramics to charcoal, all mediums were displayed in a public gallery walk within our school. The art teachers were delighted for all the participants and positivity in the gallery.

There were ceramic demonstrations in one of the art rooms for parents and the school’s staff to watch. Art pieces from every grade level filled the hallway, while people crowded to appreciate the hard work. Refreshments and photo booths were included in the Art Night as well as a donation booth and a painting wall. Podiums held up the Ceramic works, while the Jewelry was presented in glass displays. Paintings and drawings were on easels and hung down the entire 3200 hallway.

Students were proud to show their parents and friends what they created over 4 the semester at art night. Mr. Smigell stated that it was his favorite show at Huron High School, and expressed with great joy that every student no matter what age, or artistic status had the opportunity to display their creations.

Junior Fatim Diakite is in Jewelry I and she explained that there are lots of mistakes when creating a piece of jewelry, but finds beauty when making and idea into a wearable piece.

David Bogan is in drawing, painting and printmaking. He said his assignment was to take a real world issue and create a piece. He chose ‘Cancer’ as his topic, and displayed a charcoal drawing of a crying woman.

“It shows the strength and vulnerability that comes with being a cancer patient,” Bogan said.

This year’s Art Night was a huge success, all the teachers and parents had a blast seeing the work environment for their students and observing the finished outcome of this ending semester. While students said what they learned and thanked the art department teachers.

S. And we’re gonna talk to you guys about the Golden State Warriors and the Cavs rivalry.

What do you think about the Warriors and the Cavs rivalry?

T. It’s very interesting to have the two top teams in the NBA to be going head to head with each other.

S. Yeah! Since Golden State has Kevin Durant, and the Cavs have a new player named Kyle Korver, it’s going to be pretty intense to watch the players go against each other. Having Kyle Korver, I think the Cavs have an advantage. Kyle Korver is a shooting guard (SG) and plays small forward (SF), but the game with the Cavs and the Golden State Warriors (GWS) was very intense. I have to say, I was disappointed when Kyrie Irving hit the buzzer beater shot for the win.

S. I don’t think that Korver will get a lot of playing time though. He’s playing right behind Kevin Love, whose plays a lot for his team, but we’re just going to have to see what happens. I mean, I don’t think the Cavs have an advantage on them, b u t the games when they play each other will be good. We just might catch them in t h e finals again t h i s season.

T. Maybe, maybe not.

Even though Kyle Korver is new to the team, I feel like they wanted him for a reason not just to be a benchwarmer.

T. That is right Kevin was hurt. My question to you is what happened? Do I think Lebron flopped or was it a foul? I honestly think it was a foul but I gotta say watching Lebron flop like that was hilarious. I’ve watched it so many times in slow-motion.

S. Kevin Love was out for the rest of the game because something happened to his back. I don’t know if he will play next game. But back to if I think he flopped, I’m kinda mixed. It was a clear flop, but it also looked like Draymond fouled him completely.

T. Was Kevin Love fouled? Was that how he got injured? But the whole Lebron and Draymond thing, if you watch the video in slow motion it shows that Draymond came out of nowhere and ran into Lebron.

S. I don’t know; I didn’t see it. But for real he was “zooming!” Lebron is good player- he just needs to stop those flops but the game was good, hopefully we’ll see them in the finals or OKC. T. Do you think he’s going to be playing anytime soon? And yes, Lebron is a good player, but I’m not a big fan of Lebron. It was quite funny when Lebron flopped because the crowd loved his reactions to the whole situations. Even though I don’t like the Cavs, hopefully they make it to the finals.

S. Yeah, he will need to keep getting better and make sure he’s 100 percent. But be a fan of whoever you want. We’re just going to have to see what happens.

This year, there will be three new additions to In Iron Man 2, Tony Stark is dying and no one in his life seems to notice, even though he engages this already extensive universe, with many more shows and movies planned for the future. In case you don’t have as much time as I do, here is all you need to know about the first six movies and in all the classic behaviors of someone who knows his life is ending; he engages in reckless behavior, he gives away all of his stuff, and he asks Pepper to be the successor to his company. During the beginning titles Bruce Banner is transformed into the Hulk during a secret government program on accident trying to recreate the Super Soldier Serum used to make Steve Rogers Captain America. He then escapes and lives in peace for five years before drawing the government’s eyes on himself again after some of his blood causes the death of an elderly man by mistake.

He goes on the run and finds his old girlfriend, Betty, who is the daughter of a military general.

They go to a university and try to cure Bruce, but he is attacked by the military who are trying to capture him. Hulk and his old girlfriend, Betty, then escape to a cave and go to a mysterious man who tries to help Bruce overcome his affliction and cure him of being the Hulk. It doesn’t work, and Bruce is captured by the government. He is released, however, when a soldier who has been taking a similar version of what turned Bruce into the Hulk in order to try and become a better soldier turns into a Hulk-like beast called Abomination and starts destroying Harlem. The two beasts battle until Hulk wins and flees into the unknown.

They don’t get along great at first, and the fighting threatens to compromise their mission. Eventually, Loki manages to piss all of them off, especially Barton who is released from Loki’s clutch when Natasha hits him in the head. Loki unites the Avengers against a common enemy, makes it personal to each of them by killing Coulson, and fails in manipulating them, which makes me think he might secretly be a good guy. They figure out that Loki is targeting the Tesseract’s portal-opening powers in New York from the Stark Tower. The Avengers fight the aliens that come through the open hole in the sky. Eventually, they realize their efforts will be meaningless if they don’t close the portal. However, the World Security Council, a part of S.H.I.E.L.D. that oversees the Director, has launched a bomb at New York City in order to contain the aliens, so Tony takes the bomb through the hole and directs it at the ship the aliens were coming from and falls through the portal just before Natasha closes it. The Avengers go their separate ways with the promise to help if the need ever arose again.

Anna’s analysis: the best verses the worst Not all Marvel movies are made equal. While The Avengers is a great movie, with its special effects, cinematography and score all adding to the feel created by the movie, The Incredible Hulk is just terrible. The plot of the movie is confusing; the first time I watched it I thought I had missed something. I went back through the scenes and discovered that it was just confusing story telling that made it obvious they just assumed you had a basic level of comic book knowledge of the story of Hulk. The movie was so bad, in fact, that they replaced the actor who played the Hulk; Edward Norton’s performance was so disappointing that his role was given to Mark Ruffalo for The Avengers. The back story of some of the characters was not explained at all, with the experiments on Bruce occurring during the title sequence. Bruce’s relationships with others are also left unexplained.

On the other hand, The Avengers is the best movie of these six. It has a great score, which

adds to the epic feel of the movie that is caused by the fight scene that occurs for almost half of the movie. It also explores how people of different backgrounds and who all want to be in charge can set their differences aside to work together, a more complex and real life problem than the one in The Icredible Hulk. The movie has realistic special effects, and the Hulk featured in The Avengers is less sick looking than the one in The Icredible Hulk. The characters in The Avengers have a more thorough back story and are more like real people than the ones in The Icredible Hulk, which makes them more relatable and helps develop a relationship between viewer and character.

Overall, The Avengers is a much better, richer, deeper and more enjoyable than The Icredible Hulk. I would reccomend that people not waste their time watching the The Icredible Hulk, because the events in this movie are never discussed and never impact the other Marvel movies.

Hockettes Juniors: The cold front KATHERINE GURGENIAN | STAFF WRITER opportunity in many ways but if you don’t GEORGE WHITE | STAFF WRITER Many people dream of their team qualifying for states, but for two sophomore’s here at Huron they blew right past that barrier.

Cyndi Edelman and Caitlin Kaleta both only two of 20 that are on Hockettes Junior, a synchronized skating team that has gone to Sweden just last month to compete as Team U.S.A. Hockettes Junior, which Edelman and Kaleta are part of, has been renowned as one of the best skating programs in the country.

It was founded in Ann Arbor in 1956 by the “Father of Skating,” Richard Porter.

Although they have achieved this goal, this was not without sacrifice as the two girls said they each practice about 20-24 hours a week between private lessons and official practices.

Edelman and Kaleta both started when they were very young, and have continued with it ever since. They practice six out of the seven days of the week, and Edelman has said that she has struggled with keeping her social life, school and skating balanced.

“Skating can be limiting, I barely ever really see my friends anymore except in the summer,” Edelman said. “I think it also teaches you valuable life lessons, it teaches you teamwork, being devoted to something and really committed. I think it’s a very good

know how to handle it then it can be very stressful.”

Kaleta reverberated those sentiments, saying how both her and Cyndi practiced 30 hours last year due to them being cross skaters. They practiced for two different groups last year and because of that would often have to stay up until midnight or even one am working on homework.

The girls were visibly excited about the opportunity to represent their nation and bring pride to not only their team, but their state and their country. However the journey was long and not without it’s trials.

“It’s very exciting because this will be my first international, and I definitely worked my butt off to get here,” Kaleta said. “Last year we didn’t get it, and it was obviously very devastating and the whole team cried for like a week. This year was majority of the same people from last year, but last year we were developing all the skills and all the tricks and everything.”

The team competing has worked two years for this goal, and are striving to not only be the best that they can be, but to show the world that it doesn’t matter where you are from, a big east coast city, or a small one in the Midwest, you can still have some awesome performances.
