Dear Parents, Sisters, Alumnae, Faculty, Staff, Board Members and Friends, of the Elms Welcome to Elms Gala: Havana Nights 2012! Thank you for joining us tonight for this new twist on St. Patrick’s Day! Gala coordinators, Marianne Spiros, Suzanne Nicholas, Kate Kleski and their superb team of parent and alumnae volunteers have worked tirelessly to make this 35th annual Elms Gala a tremendous success for you and for our students. We thank them all for their talent, energy, and commitment. We give a standing ovation to the following individuals and organizations for their ongoing support: The Lehner Family Foundation, The Ralph L. and Florence A. Bernard Foundation, The Robert O. and Annamae Orr Foundation, First Merit Bank, Nancy J. Brennan, Cynthia K. Knight and Little Black Dress Events. Please patronize the businesses that have so generously supported our school and our auction. Shop, bid and outbid tonight! This is the largest fundraising event of the year for Our Lady of the Elms School. Your presence tonight is a sign of your support of our mission. Your financial generosity is vital to continuing the excellence for which the Elms is known. Every student on campus – from Pre-School to High School Seniors – benefits from your generosity. We appreciate your dedication and hope that you enjoy this evening. Truly yours, Chief Administrators

Silent Auction Procedures •

All items in the silent auction have bid sheets attached. Bidders must write their bidder number and the bid amount on each item sheet.

Each increase in bid must equal or exceed the minimum bid stated on the card in order to constitute a valid bid.

Each new bid must be written on the topmost blank line on the bid card.

There is now a “BUY IT NOW” option. The “Buy It Now” value is listed at the bottom of the bid sheet. Should a bidder want the item without a bidding war, they may “Buy It Now” at the “Buy It Now” price. Be sure to place the bidder number on the appropriate line. All other bids will be voided and the “Buy It Now” bidder is the winner.

The first category of the silent auction will close 15 minutes after completion of the oral auction. Subsequent silent auction categories will be closed as the auctioneer proceeds through the sections. Bidding continues until the auctioneer circles the highest bid. Should two or more bidders want an item, the auctioneer will hold a mini oral auction. Once all bidders are satisfied with their bids, the auctioneer will award the winner of the item to the bidder with the highest bid. The closed bid circled by the Auctioneer/Elms Gala Official constitutes the winning bid.

Under no circumstances may the auction bid card be removed from the bidding table.

Payment by the successful bidder should be made as soon as the cashiers are open or by express checkout. Payments may be paid by cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Discover. Payment in full is mandatory at the close of Elms Gala 2012 unless otherwise stated.

By accepting their assigned number, all bidders are agreeing to having read these rules and are bound thereby. Thank you for your participation and support!

Oral Auction Procedures •

Once the auction begins, it will continue until all items have been auctioned.

Our Lady of the Elms School reserves the right to withdraw any items for which bids have not reached a satisfactory level.

Oral auction items may have a reserve price. If the reserve price is not met, the item will not be awarded.

Payment by the successful bidder may be paid via cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Discover. Payment in full is mandatory at the close of Elms Gala 2012 unless otherwise stated.

Transactions of the auction are regarded as final purchases and are not eligible for any redemption or return to the party having supplied the merchandise for any cash, credit or exchange amount.

Items may be removed tonight by exhibiting a PAID receipt at the door at time of departure after check-out begins.

The values for the items being auctioned are estimates only and are not warranted by Our Lady of the Elms School for tax purposes or for general value.

Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used within one year of the event, expiring March, 16, 2013.

All auction items – oral and silent – must be removed from Our Lady of the Elms School before 2 p.m. on March 30, 2012 unless other arrangements have been made. Items may be claimed only by exhibiting a PAID receipt.

By accepting your assigned bidder number, all bidders are agreeing to having read these rules and are bound thereby. Thank you for your participation and support! 27
