Letter from the Director Dear Friend, We’re back!!! I wish I could rest my laurels on that statement but I would be remiss to leave it that simply. By now you are aware that proof of vaccination is required to allow you to participate in person at the EKH without a mask. You may also that use of the MYSENIORCENTER system is now mandatory and all participants, including visitors must be screened and entered into the system before entering the building. This October publication is chock full of the balance we have worked hard to achieve in providing both in-person and online programming and services. It wasn’t easy but you are all well worth it. Everything around us feels new as the building undergoes a much needed facelift, new programs, new partner agencies, continued support to prevent the spread of COVID and the list goes on and on. The past nearly two years have been a wonderful opportunity to find new and creative ways to connect with you. We are committed to keeping the tools that will continue to benefit the community for many more years to come. Equally, we are committed to safely find ways to connect in person. Health screenings, free testing, smaller group sizes are just a part of what we have put together to better serve you. Your health and safety is our priority and we know as you do that human connections are the greatest protective factor toward good health for older adults. We continue to move forward together with the goal of getting to the other side of this crazy time we are living in. We ask for your patience and your help as the weather gets colder and the leaves start to fall. Wishing you the best of health and happiness,

Welcome to Amanda DelConte , the newest member of the EKH Family. You will see her forever smiling face (under her mask, of course) at our front desk Monday through Thursday. She will be taking on the role of Instructional Assistant for our online programming. She is also responsible for managing incoming traffic to the Center. Welcome aboard Amanda! Congratulations to our very own Dr. Anna MatosMournighan who has been promoted to Deputy Director of the Edward King House Senior Center. Her responsibilities have expanded to include supervising our ever growing team of interns and becoming co-lead of the Newport For all Ages Initiative. Way to go Anna!

At your next visit, be sure to look up! The window restoration project is now officially complete and the next big restoration project, the ROOF, is more than halfway there. We wish to thank the City of Newport for their commitment to restoration of our beautiful building. In addition to the roof, the mezzanine space is in the process of being convertINFORMATION ed to our first every digital studio. We ask that all of our participants be mindful of their step both inside and outside of the building and ask your patience as we undergo these wonderful upgrades.

The CDC recommends: -People age 65 and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at least six months after their second dose of Pfizer; People age 50-64 with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at least six months after their second dose of Pfizer; People age 18-49 with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at least six months after their second dose of Pfizer; People age 18-64 who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional settings may receive a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at least six months after their second dose of Pfizer, based on their individual benefits and risks.

PARKING UPDATE 3RD CIRCLE DIGITAL MIDDAY MEDITATION
The Edward King House Senior Center is pleased to announce that through a grant from the EJMP Fund for Philanthropy, our digital programming service is undergoing an exciting expansion. With a digital studio in production, the addition of our Instructional Assistant to our team and new digital equipment and software, Newport County seniors can now count on us to bring new and diverse enrichment programs all accessible through the internet. Our first online field trip was taken to the Museum of Latin American Art in California. We are looking forward to the new programs soon to be announced.
Midday Meditation with Julia This free weekly online event is a 30-minute guided meditation to help you develop, maintain, or deepen your mindfulness meditation practice. Join us for this wonderful opportunity to spread presence and ease amidst the chaos and stress of our modern lives.
