I

from the editor

From Backpacks to Boardrooms A Journey Through Travel and Tourism Embarking on a journey through travel and tourism, my experiences as both a curious student and a seasoned business leader intertwine, shaping a narrative reflecting the evolution of my understanding of our planet. From the appealing streets of Quebec City to the rugged landscapes of the Caribbean, each expedition has left an unforgettable mark on my perception of my role in the world. My earliest adventures in travel began as a student, driven by a genuine desire to explore the wonders of my surroundings alongside teachers and classmates. One particularly memorable excursion transported me to the ancient sites of The White Witch of Rose Hall and Dunn's River Falls. Boarding chartered buses, our journey was laden with anticipation. Guided by our teachers, we delved into historical records, engaging in tales of bygone eras and marvelling at the architectural wonders that stood as tributes to the past. Yet, beyond the allure of history lay a deeper connection forged through shared experiences. This camaraderie elevated our journey as infectious laughter mingled with the rhythmic hum of the bus's engine. Each step was an opportunity to push beyond our comfort zones and discover the beauty of our surroundings. As adulthood beckoned, my approach to travel underwent a transformation, guided by newfound purpose and intentionality. No longer content with mere observation, I sought to engage with Canada's cultural tapestry on a deeper level, connecting with its people and heritage. Quebec City emerged as a pivotal destination, with its cobblestone streets and storied landmarks steeped in centuries of history. Wanderings through the alleyways of Old Quebec took me back in time, where the walls of La Citadelle and the peaks of Château Frontenac stood as a tribute to human ingenuity. However, Quebec City was merely beginning a journey across Canada's diverse landscapes and cultures. Inspired to deepen my understanding, I pass through different provinces annually, eager to uncover hidden gems and embrace the kindness of locals who willingly share cultural insights and traditions. Travel, I discovered, offers a myriad of benefits—both tangible and intangible—that enrich our lives in numerous ways: • It pushes us beyond our comfort zones, fostering personal growth and development.

• It creates lasting memories that offer a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment. I carry the lessons learned from each adventure, believing in the transformative power of exploration to shape our world for the better. Unexpected encounters often leave the most significant impressions, reminding us of the magic that awaits when we venture off the beaten path. As global citizens, we must pledge and prioritize sustainability in our journeys, taking actual actions to preserve our planet.

• It broadens our perspectives, challenging preconceived notions and expanding our understanding of different ways of life.

We appreciate your continued support and readership.

• It provides temporary respite from the stresses of daily life, allowing us to disconnect and appreciate the beauty of the world around us.

Jennifer M Williams

• It fosters social connections through shared experiences with fellow travellers. 8

"As global citizens, it is incumbent on us to pledge and prioritize sustainability in our journeys, taking actual actions to preserve our planet for generations."
