The Dwight School Calendar 2011-2012

I have always liked drawing hands, and I especially like circular designs. My inspiration for this work was the ideas of peace and unity. I wanted to show the unity of two different worlds- light and dark - represented by the different colors of the two hands. —Srey Beaulac ’12

Founded in 1872, The Dwight School is a pre-kindergarten through 12th Grade private international school that trains its students to become world leaders with a strong sense of community responsibility. In 1996, The Dwight School became the second school in the United States to offer a full International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program from pre K-12. As a pioneer in international education, Dwight draws students from all over the world, with nearly 40 countries currently represented in its student body. Dwight’s exceptional faculty members have led the way for students and alumni to become leaders in their respective fields.

A gift to the Annual Fund is one of the most powerful ways to invest in the future of Dwight. Your generous support helps fund student financial aid, faculty professional development, and other enrichment items. Your gift also ensures the financial strength and flexibility for Dwight to fulfill its mission. We encourage you to join parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, faculty, and friends in supporting this critical fund. Please remember the current giving year ends June 30, 2012. Thank you in advance for leading the charge in your commitment to Dwight. For more information, please call Jacqueline Leitzes, Director of Annual Giving and Major Gifts, at 212.724.6360 x247.

I was inspired by my grandparent when they told me about their job along time ago in Spain. In October, I went with my mother to the Metropolitan Museum and I discovered the artists Monet and Seurat. I love that their paintings depict color, light, and a world full of life. This piece was inspired by my grandparent in Spain, which I created using acrylic paint in the Pointillism style. —Javier Perez ’12

This piece is one of my self-portraits. It illustrates my passion for animal rights. I looked in the mirror to draw my face and used a leopard’s face as part of myself to show that I love animals.

I wanted to illustrate a part of my Japanese culture and heritage through this piece, but I wanted to do it in a modern “graffiti art” style. The process involved using paint, pen, and glitter to change and combine different pictures.

I like how Surrealism depicts imaginary worlds. In this piece, inspired by Dali, I used colored pencil, through which it is easy to blend colors to create shadows.

This still life of ginger was made using pastels, giving it a more cartoon appearance. I was inspired by the way the light hit the color fragments of the ginger.

I was inspired to create a unique portrait of the iconic figure, Twiggy. I tore up pieces of paper to recreate her image. I like how the colors blend together; it creates a realistic sense of the portrait.
