Drivers Union members enjoying the Supercar Day at London Concours over the years
Syeed Ali
Drivers Union Founder
Welcome to our first ever Concours Edition Issue and what better events to celebrate on this occasion than two of the finest automotive events in the UK, the London Concours and the Concours of Elegance.
We first visited the London Concours as a club in 2020 at which we supplied fifteen member’s cars for their Supercar category. Fast forward to 2024 and as an event partner, we had fifty of our members displaying their cars amongst a plethora of automotive excellence.
The Drivers Union awards have also gone from strength to strength with our Awards Ceremony held every year at the London Concours.
To say that our members, love the London Concours would be an understatement; the event coming second in our annual Club Awards, only beaten by its sister event, the Concours of Elegance.
If you have never been, the Concours of Elegance should be at the top of your automotive calendar for 2025. Sixty of the rarest cars on display in the wonderous gardens of Hampton Court Palace, and if you are a Drivers Union member, an opportunity to park your automobile there as well.
See you there!
The next London Concours will take place from the 3rd to 5th June 2025 and the Concours of Elegance will be on from the 5th to 7th September 2025.
ANDREW EVANS
CONCOURS DIRECTOR
In 2017, the City Concours was launched, a first event of its kind in the Capital. Our aim, to create a compelling celebration of the UK’s automotive scene. Up until then, we felt that the Capital had been starved of a meaningful event worthy of the UK collector market. In this launch Concours we curated 60 privately owned cars into six themed classes. These were complimented by several specialist automotive dealers and luxury brand holders. The result, a credible launch which captured the attention of 4,000 attendees and the UK’s media.
Flash forward to 2024 and eight editions later, the London Concours (we were advised to change the name to reflect the growing interest beyond the Square Mile) is an anchor point in the summertime calendar. Each edition has seen a rise in the number of entrants (we now have 80) competing for the coveted ‘winner’s trophy’ and our audience now exceeds 10,000 passionate collectors and working professionals from the Square Mile.
In 2020, despite all odds, we tackled the Covid climate head on and became the first major event to take place in the UK. Coincidently, this was also the first year that we forged a partnership with the Drivers Union, welcoming 50 member Supercars on our final day for a spectacular showcase of horsepower and automotive flair. This was to become the foundation of a long-term collaboration which has grown from strength to strength, culminating in our hosting of the annual DU awards each year.
We are tremendously proud of the partnership we have forged with Syeed Ali and the Drivers Union and thank all members who have and will continue to support our event in years to come.

The Judging Process
The initial thoughts on classes for the 2024 edition of the London Concours were formulated between selection Committee Chairman Peter Read and Concours Director Andrew Evans. This followed the debrief of 2023’s event, and included some old favourites (wild cards, coachbuilts and hypercars), but also developments from previous years (front aero and legendary engines) and marque anniversaries (Corvette).
By August, the Chairman and Curators Flavien and Vanessa Marçais had populated the classes with suggested models, for distribution to the committee members. The committee comprises past members with previous experience of car selection, along with some new recruits, all with an address book full of owners. From September to April, the committee meets every six weeks or so to run through selected cars, agree new invitations and fill gaps, so that by late April most of the classes are complete –with waiting lists.
Once at the event, the committee members have a further job to do, which – together with a choice group of guest judges – is to select the class and overall concours winners. Working in pairs, judges are given a copy of the car’s entry form and a briefing on the judging process.
Points are awarded to each vehicle on elegance of design, originality, quality of presentation and, most importantly, the car’s history and provenance. Brand new models tend to get higher points for presentation, but struggle to compete with the older cars which, by definition, tend to have more of a story to tell.
To ensure consistency, each team of judges is responsible for picking the winner of a complete class. From these class victors, the judges huddle to nominate an overall winner, with the chairman as the final adjudicator. Picking the overall winner from some fabulous cars is always difficult, which is why we introduced the Chairman’s Award, to reward a great runner-up.
A look at Britain’s defining motor sport legends from the past 70 years. Cars that took the fight to the established automotive marques – and won. In the hands of some of the greatest ever drivers, these machines flew the flag for Britain’s engineering ingenuity and ‘can do’ attitude, triumphing at iconic circuits and earning legions of fans. Featuring machinery from Ford, Lotus, Jaguar and MG, along with minnows that punched way above their weight including Hesketh, Chevron and Surtees.
Revisiting London in the swinging 1960s, when Britain led the world in music, fashion and, of course, cars. A collection of automotive icons that roared around the capital when it was firmly at the centre of the cultural world – stylish machines favoured by the rich and famous, from the Mercedes 190 SL to the Ford Mustang, Aston Martin DB6 and more. These era defining machines quickly became stars in their own right.

Coachbuilders Zagato
A retrospective celebrating arguably the greatest coachbuilder of all: Zagato. This category looks at the avant-garde wonders dreamed up by the Italian carrozzeria’s automotive artisans through the decades. A collection of the Lombardy based design house’s greatest hits, working with the likes of Aston Martin and Alfa Romeo; moving artworks, pieces of exquisite, expressive industrial design that are just as jaw-dropping today as they were when they were first revealed to the world.

This class took a modern twist on Henry Ford’s famous quote, welcoming cars in any colour as long as it was purple. This hue remains a rare choice today, but some of the most striking performance cars are finished in this shade, stretching right back to Ferraris of the 1960s and ’70s.
Pushing the boundaries of automotive possibility, braving new frontiers of mechanical and engineering endeavour, modern Hypercars represent the pinnacle of driving performance. The London Concours brought together a formidable array of pioneering machinery, representing the awe-inspiring nature of the Hypercar world.

The Legendary V12
A symbol of engineering excess and recision; unashamedly loud and unflinchingly powerful, the V12 has been the beating heart of some of the greatest cars ever. With fewer of these iconic engines being built, this class celebrates the inimitable powerplant.

Chevrolet Corvette
Often overlooked for the beauty of its design, the London Concours pay homage to the Chevrolet Corvette. In its earliest iterations – particularly the C1, introduced in 1953 – it’s a veritable icon of timeless automotive design. The C2 included the split-screen Sting Ray Coupe, which was supposedly inspired by the Bugatti Atlantic.
The era of pop-up headlights – sadly cut short by safety regulations –gave rise to some of the most beautiful car designs ever. Streamlined and simplified, auto, makers would come up with ever more ingenious ways of making headlights aerodynamic.

Wild Cards
A catch-all class for the finest cars that are worth celebrating but don’t fit into our other categories. An eclectic mix of extraordinary machines, with plenty to surprise and delight, from amphibious off-roaders to exquisite classics, each one being an automotive curiosity of the finest order.
The London Concours – the capital’s ultimate summer automotive garden party – has crowned its Best in Show winner for 2024 in front of record crowds at the Honourable Artillery Company. An ultra-rare, 1994 Lamborghini Diablo SE30 prototype, was awarded this year’s coveted main prize, coming out on top in a field of over 80 exquisite motor cars – from blue-chip classics to modern day hypercars and motorsport legends. Set in a five-acre oasis of green close to Bank, the event’s eighth edition has played host to the most incredible collection of vehicles ever gathered in the City.
This year’s victorious Lamborghini is a Diablo with a difference, a raging bull from Sant’Agata made even angrier thanks to specially developed prototype supercharger upgrade. The car was spawned thanks to the creativity and passion of the team at Lamborghini Hoecker in Landau, Germany who worked in collaboration with the Lamborghini factory in Italy to bring the project to fruition. It is one of, if not the most, potent Diablos ever created, with 634bhp from its feral supercharged V12 – up from 525bhp in the standard car, more than even the defining hypercar of the ‘90s: the McLaren F1.
The Diablo supercharger conversion certainly wasn’t cheap, costing the original owner some 200,000 Deutsch Marks in 1994 – 180,000 Euros in today’s money. Other upgrades included brakes taken from the McLaren F1, a specially adapted ECU to make the most of the supercharger, a carbon intake – and a 400km/h speedometer. Resplendent in its deep purple paint, this is a one-of-a-kind automotive masterpiece, and a worthy winner.
