As you know, Dobson Ranch is in the Valley of the Sun and currently the sun is HOT! In June, we can expect 110+ degree temperatures. Come July, the monsoon storms will sweep into the valley. The last few years it feels like we had more dust than rain. The dust or haboob is a wall that exceeds 5,000+ feet into the air and travels at the speed of 50+ miles per hour. As of May, the US Drought Monitor stated that the Valley is abnormally dry.

This type of weather can cause havoc to yards. The Association staff knows, after such an event, that it may take time to get things back to the way they were. Please be patient with those whose home/yard may have been damaged after a storm.

For the past three months, the Master Planning committee has been reviewing a patio area for La Casita. The patio will be a nice addition to the community center. The committee will soon be making a recommendation to the Board of Directors. Once the design is complete, we will post the design in the lobby of the administration office.

In May, Dobson Ranch United met to discuss safety and upcoming events. Dobson Ranch United is a group of Board members from the 11 sub-associations that meet with Dobson Ranch Board quarterly.

The sub-association and master association discuss upcoming events, community assistance and more. This is a great way to stay connected.

Information is shared with the Board and communities of the subs.

At our last meeting, Commander Kenneth Cost, from the Mesa Police Fiesta District, attended our meeting to report on Dobson Ranch crime. He stated that it is very low compared to previous years. I would like to thank Lake Park Village and the Landing for inviting me to their community events.

Dobson Ranch is a great community to live in. The office hears about great neighbors helping neighbors. Just recently, two homeowners (husband and wife) were on their way for a vacation. Along the way, they had a terrible accident in another state. The Retirees Club leaders kept in constant contact with their sister (also a Dobson resident), who was there to help the couple. Two months later the couple came back to Arizona. Husband is okay, but the wife still has to recover. The Retirees had a special dinner event and all the proceeds went to the couple. They also looked over the two homes while they were out of state. What great neighbors!

Lastly, on May 24, the City of Mesa picked the new Chief of Police.

Dobson Ranch would like to send a warm welcome to City of Mesa Chief of Police, Ramon Batista. We hope to have him attend one of our fall events. It’s great to be working with the city on so many things. A special thanks to Jared Archambault, City Council Assistant, for his assistance on many projects.

I called the May 18, 2017 Dobson Ranch Homeowners Association Board of Directors meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Here’s a recap…

The first item of business was my President’s Report…one part of being Board President that I particularly enjoy is getting to recognize Ranch residents who contribute to our quality of life and help make life great here at Dobson Ranch. It was my pleasure to recognize long-time Ranch resident and former Board member Ron Magaw. Ron has served on our Water Management Committee for 24 years and recently completed two terms on our Board of Directors. Thank you, Ron, for all of your contributions to our community - your service is truly appreciated.

It has been a busy time of year and it’s hard to believe that the election is already over. It won’t be too long that the process will start again in October. Running for the three Board of Director seats this year were Jeff Brosman, Ron Magaw, Kirk Mehlhorn, Ron Ricci and myself. The election results welcomed back Ron Ricci and myself for a second consecutive term and new Board member Jeff Brosman. I think that I speak for all of us when I thank you, the members of the Association, for voting and participating in this process. We strive to serve the Association with the best of intentions representing all community members.

Following my report Executive Director David Jones gave a brief report. The Los Altos pools have passed county inspections. New Dobson Ranch signage is receiving positive feedback. A new tennis windscreen has been installed at the Saratoga Center; it is tan with the Association’s logo and is anticipated to hold up well in our brutal sun.

Our recent Cerveza Run was hugely successful despite the wind and high temperatures. Thank you to Macayo’s for donating chips and salsa for the event; as well as a big thank you to all of the Run’s sponsors: The Running University, Golfland Sunsplash, Fitness in the Park, and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Under “New Business” the proposed paint palette for Dobson Ranch homes was approved. Thank you to the Architectural Committee for all of their work on this project. It was a lengthy process: colors were contemplated at the Committee level, presented at Dobson Ranch United, presented at the Annual meeting, displayed in the Administration office, advertised in the Ranchers Roundup and, lastly, brought to the Board of Directors for review. We are excited to see these colors begin to be utilized throughout the community. The palettes are updated and concise.

Don’t forget to have your painting projects, or any project which changes the aesthetics of your home, reviewed by our Architectural Committee.

Following on the agenda was the key fob policy. The policy for our newly approved keyless entry system was again discussed and re-tooled.

The revised version will be on the June agenda.

Please join us for the next Board of Directors meeting on Thursday, June 15 at 7:00 pm in the La Casita Grande Room.

I also hear… screaming… for ice cream! Go ahead and scream about the FREE Ice Cream Social for all HOA members sponsored by the Dobson Ranch Recreation Department. The scoop-full of fun takes place Friday, July 14, starting at 6:30 pm, at the La Casita Recreation Center located at 2719 S. Reyes. While you are there, please enjoy the beautiful pool and fun splash pad!

Along with the pool and splash pad at La Casita there are two other locations in Dobson Ranch with pools. There is a pool at the Saratoga Recreation Center, 2345 S. Saratoga, and two pools at the Los Altos Recreation Center, 2524 W. Campo Alegre.

In addition to the pools, the Recreation department has an array of refreshing classes: Swim lessons, Aqua Zumba, Water Aerobics, Yoga, Dance and more!

The amenities are here for you to use, so stay cool and enjoy all that Dobson Ranch has to offer!

The Board of Directors has once again approved no increase to the Assessments for 2017. The assessment will remain at $138.60 quarterly ($554.40 annually). Thank you for your contribution in making Dobson Ranch “the best place to live!”.

As a reminder, assessments are due on the first day of each quarter; January, April, July, and October. A late fee of $15 will be charged quarterly if your payment is not received by the 20th day of the first month of each quarter.

There are several options for paying your assessments: There are several options for paying your assessments: 1. 1. Automatic monthly payments can be made through ACH (auto debit to your checking account). Please complete the form that can be found in the “Documents & Forms” tab on our website (www.dobsonranch.com) and return it to the administration office along with a voided check. ACH payments are run on the 5th of each month. The payment will continue to be drafted from your account until you give the Association notice to cancel the ACH. Please note that accounts on ACH will not receive future payment coupons. Notice of any assessment change will be published in the current year October or November issue of the Association’s official publication, the Ranchers’ Round Up.

The next quarterly payment is due July 1, 2017 2. Annual, Semi-Annual, or Quarterly payments can be made by check, cash, debit or credit card. Payments may be mailed to or dropped off at the Association Administration or Recreation departments. Please be sure to include your account number when remitting your payment. Please note that debit or credit card payments cannot be accepted over the phone. Monthly payment is not an option through mail or drop off.

Using your bank card, credit card or e-check, automatic and onetime payments can be made at the Dobson Association website (www.dobsonranch.com), by clicking on the “Assessment Payment Portal” (green dollar bill on the front page of the site). If this is the first time you have made a payment on this site, it will be necessary to set up a “New User Account”. Once logged in, select the one-time payment or auto payment option. If setting up automatic recurring payments, click on Menu, click on Auto Pay, and enter your information. Once you have set up the auto pay, the payment will continue to be processed until you stop the payment or make changes.

If you are currently setup on recurring payments through the payment portal, please be sure that your payments are set to continue through 2017.

4. You may also send in recurring payments if using automatic bill pay with your personal banking institution. When setting up the payment through your bill pay program, please be sure to reference your account number and property address to ensure proper credit to your account.

Water is hard to hold in your hand, to come to grips with; it is just too slippery. That has not stopped us from trying though. Water is the stuff of life, we drink it, wash with it, float in it and some even ski on it. Some try to mix things with it. Some will even take a tall glass of water and dilute it with ice.

The smallest measure of water is the drop (0.050 ml); 4,742 drops in one soda can. We mostly, however find it is easier to talk about gallons of water rather than drops of water. One place where we actually use drops is in drip irrigation. Drip nozzles come in sizes that range from ½ to 5 gallons per hour. Observing the drip head in action one would see from 8 to 80 drops per second spewing forth; not easy to count. After an hour, the soil surrounding the targeted plant or plants should be moist down several inches to dampen the root zone. If the root zone is soaked, then too much water was applied.

Rain falls in drops, but so many it becomes impossible to count.

So, rain is measured in inches. On the surface that seems intuitive, but hidden in reporting rain fall is time and area. It all goes toward how we measure water. Normally, we think of water occupying a space, a volume. Rarely do we think of water as having weight, which it does if one totes a bottle of water everywhere. We should be more concerned about where to dispose of that bottle, i.e., in a re-cycling bin.

We do get creative about how to describe the size of our water storage containers. To mention a few: dram, shot, glass, cup, can, mug, pint, quart, liter, gallon, pail, bucket, drum. Beyond the size that can be carried, we start looking at how much space water takes up, usually starting at a cubic foot. Then there is centum cubic feet meaning 100 cubic feet, about the size of a king size bed. Finally, there is the acre-foot, as held in a wall around the tennis courts and pool area at La Casita (about one acre in size) filled with water to a depth of 1 foot; one-acre foot. That acre-foot multiplied by 260 represents just how much water the Ranch has saved with our investment in smart irrigation devices.

Water comes in all sizes, but it starts with the drop. Remember, saving drops of water makes living in the desert possible - make the best of it.

Green Thumb Awards

The Kiowa Avenue Block Watch held their quarterly meeting at the Dobson Restaurant on Saturday May 6, 2017.

The Block Watch has been active the last three years and worked with various City/State and the Dobson HOA regarding public safety and questions regarding City services.

This quarter Commander Kenneth Cost Mesa PD, Officer Amy Sailors, and Officer Kevin Hernandez attended and conducted a question and answer question forum regarding resident concerns and issues which pertained to neighborhood traffic, local crime, ways the city is addressing crime and ways to prevent becoming a victim.

The Block Watch has been successful in addressing public safety issues and encourages other residences to set up and maintain Block Watch initiatives. Summer is here and the weather is getting warm. Come out and enjoy your community pool and splash pad! Our new summer hours run from May 26th – September 3rd.

We are open Monday-Saturday 8am-9pm and Sunday 9am8pm. We will be closed during the Holidays. We have more new and exciting events and programs coming up. If you have children or grandchildren ages 6-12 and are looking for some fun summer activities…look no further. We are still accepting registrations for Summer Kids Camp at La Casita. Camp will run Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:30pm. We do have 10 weeks, 5 weeks, 1 week and daily options available May 30th-August 4th. See our ad or call La Casita for more information. For all your ice cream enthusiasts, come out and join us for our Ice Cream Social on Friday, July 14th 6:30p until we run out. Bring your whole family out for a great time! I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming summer events and will hopefully see some new faces as well. Don’t forget about those little ones that want to learn to swim. We are offering swim lessons again this year. Spots are limited so sign up soon. Are there any golfers out there? Don’t forget about the Golf Tournament event Saturday, September 17th. Under the direction of their teacher, Ms. Jessi, they are ready and prepared to move on to Kindergarten. Congratulations!

5-use punch card (expires 9/28/17) Aqua Zumba keeps the Zumba Fitness workout party going in the pool. Aqua Zumba is classic aqua aerobics with Latin flavor added to regular Zumba routines.

The typical land-based Zumba dance steps, such as cha-cha, merengue, salsa, reggaeton, and mambo, are exaggerated and slower in water, so the water tempo is half the land tempo, creating a low-impact work out for all fitness levels. There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba class so you can really let loose.

Dobson Ranch Pontoon Tour/Ride Info Sit back, relax and take in the beauty of a Dobson Ranch lake on a pontoon ride! Tour fee is $35 per hour with a two hour maximum. Reservations are available through the Recreation Department and require a 7 day minimum notice and are subject to weather and availability.

Other rules and restrictions will apply. Don’t forget… a FREE one hour pontoon ride per year per property is available for you to enjoy! Call 480831-7464 for more information.

Table and Chair Rentals Make your next at home event great with the convenience of renting tables and chairs right in your community. The Dobson Association not only rents out facilities for private rentals but renting of chairs and tables not held on a ranch facility are also available. We can accommodate a rental up to 140 metal framed folding chairs and 15 rectangle 6 foot by 3 foot tables. The resident must schedule to pick up and drop off the chairs and tables at La Casita Recreation Center.

A refundable security deposit of $50 minimum is due in cash or credit card payment to hold your reservation. The rental cost per chair is $0.50 and $5 per table. If a rental request is within 10 business days there will be an expedited fee 2 times the rental amount. Reservations can be made at the La Casita Recreation Center and include a 14 day cancellation policy.

Each summer the Recreation department hosts the Flick N Float event… a movie at the pool. “Moana” was presented and it was a cool time for over 100 Dobson Ranch residents, families and friends! The next cool event is the Ice Cream Social on July 14. Read the Ranchers’ Roundup or visit dobsonranch.com for details on all Dobson Ranch events.

Cerveza Run It was a windy Saturday afternoon at the recent Dobson Ranch Cerveza Run, but that didn’t stop the runners, walkers and joggers as they headed out on the two-mile path along beautiful Lake 1 at Los Altos. There was a festive atmosphere as the participants returned and were serenaded with lively music by the Mariachi Luna de Mexico band. The first runner back was Jesus Garcia, but at the end everyone was a winner with cool refreshing Cervezas for the adults and piñatas for the kids!

Summer Heat Is No Deterrent to DR Picklers! 2017 Boat Permits and Fishing

Daily temps are now over 100 degrees for the “unforeseeable” future, but summer pickleball on Dobson Ranch is alive and well.

In order to combat some fall-off on our attendance Mondays due to the departure of our winter visitors, the temporary absence of some our regulars due to cooling off in the high country or taking vacation (and maybe a few who are just sticking to the A/C at home and/or the pool), we are trying out a new concept of “inter-club” play on Mondays by inviting some of our friends from the Pecos Community Center Pickleball Club, the Awatukee Recreation Center, The Lakes, and Mountain Park Ranch to join us for some spirited rivalry competition.

The featured picture for this month’s Roundup is of our inaugural group, which includes local USAPA Ambassadors Steve and Susan Manolis, Bob Ham, and Joan Gillespie, and City of Tempe Parks and Recreation Committee Member Chris Kamper. These folks, with help from many others, are responsible for achieving approval for the construction of 16 new outdoor lighted courts at the City of Phoenix Pecos Community Center, 6 new outdoor lighted courts in Chandler’s Arrowhead Park, and consideration of the first ever outdoor pickleball courts in Tempe at Kiwanis and Harelson Parks. Stay tuned for future reports on the outcome of those on-going discussions.

With the addition of so many new courts in our immediate area, a growing program for kids programs in our schools, and continued sports education at several ASU locations for our college aged youth, many changes are coming to pickleball in the Valley of the Sun. Some of these new locations may impact our own attendance, but also bring the opportunity to branch out, play at other locations and learn from competing elsewhere, all while meeting new folks also passionate about the fastest growing sport in America.

Our own drop-in play hours continue at 7 am, Monday, Thursday and Saturday, and night play Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm. Additional hours may be available on Monday and Thursday evenings at 7 pm, which have an orientation towards beginning to intermediate players, but all are invited to come out.

Beginners are always welcome during group play and will receive basic instruction from regular participants and use of members extra paddles while getting introduced to the sport. Please wear appropriate court shoes, and be sure to bring enough water and sunscreen to insure a safe and healthy visit.

Remember, these courts are provided by the Dobson Association for members and their guests, and playing time is not limited to our published group-play hours. Another great benefit of homeownership in Dobson Ranch! Just another great reason to come out, give it a try and get on our email list.

The weather is perfect for outdoor activities, like fishing and boating at one of the beautiful lakes at PLE Dobson Ranch. Fishing licenses are required (catch EXAM and release only) and boat permits are required for all watercraft (size restrictions apply). Licenses and Permits may be purchased at La Casita, 2719 South Reyes. Boat Licenses are $35 per motorized boat (electric motors only) and $15 for non-motorized boats and a maximum of 3 permits. Getting Your Head in the Game… The Right Way

Tennis is an extremely physical sport. You need strength, quickness, handeye coordination, and stamina to be able to play tennis. However, one muscle that is often overlooked in tennis is the power of the brain. Yes, believe it or not, tennis is a very cerebral sport and often most players don’t use their critical thinking skills on the court.

Too many times I’ve heard on the court, “tennis is a hard sport.” While there is truth to that statement, tennis can be a very simple sport if thought out. Throughout my playing and coaching career, I’ve seen so many players self-destruct during drills, competitions, and matches. It starts by missing a few shots, and then the negative thoughts compound exponentially. Before you know it, you’re feeling extremely frustrated and spiraling out of focus. Errors in tennis are an inevitability. It is how you think through the errors is what matters.

You must constantly analyze why you missed and what you can do to fix the error. Frequently, I see so many players simply “bashing the ball” and making error after error without stopping to think why they are missing and how they can fix it.

This is why I love tennis so much; it combines physical challenges with mental challenges. You exercise your body, and also your mind. It takes monumental mental strength to battle through not only your opponent, but yourself as well.

WOW, time is flying by. Here it is the middle of 2017 and it looks like spring has fled us. A lot of our members have made their way to cooler locations but quite of few of us stick it out, and brave the heat.

We wish all our traveling friends a safe and happy summer.

Hiking and biking are finish for the summer but will start up again as soon as fall finds us. But we still have dinner night, ladies lunch, happy hour and movie and game day. We invite all our members to join us at any or all of these events. We still have our general meeting in July the difference is it will be at night at LaCasita at 6:30 and as always there will be food. If you are unaware LaCasita offers a day camp for the kids of school age so they have a safe place to be while parents work. Another great benefit of living on the ranch.

I would like to take a minute to say a heartfelt thank you to all our committee chairs, they volunteer and do a great job at finding us places to go and things to do. Dovie does a great job of keeping up our membership list so we can contact each other if we need to! Carolyn is excellent with numbers as our treasurer, can’t thank her enough for that! Gary does a great job of bringing us interesting speakers to entertain and inform. Connie, what can I said she keeps all of ladies and guys inline and informed about our lunches that we all enjoy at our general meetings, Francine has done a great job with dinner night. Nancy Black, now Nancy Radisich have done a terrific job with Happy hour, keeping us all happy. Al and Patricia have done a great job with planning our picnics. Judie wow, she just keeps those games and movies coming. Arnie has led us on some great bike rides and Ed on six years of wild hiking trips. Marilyn and Marilyn have gotten us to some great places around that valley that a lot of us have never visited. Al, again keeps the men together for their monthly breakfast.

Jo keeps track of what happens at our monthly meeting, goodness only knows how she does that! Kevin and Nancy our fearless leaders keep us on track with our club goals. Jeanne does a good job of taking the women to great lunch places that don’t mind separate checks.

We need more volunteers like these to keep all these activities active. Judie, Nancy R, Linda T, Tanya, Marilyn, have stepped up again to help with dinner night at Fran is out of town for the next couple of months. We can not forget our other volunteer board members Dennis, Al, John, Hugh, and Frank for helping the board make wise decisions. AGAIN I HAVE TO SAY THANK YOU TO ALL THESE VOLUNTEERS, WE COULDN’T DO IT WITHOUT YOU! Well that’s it for this month, but as one of our club founders once said, The Dobson Ranch Retiree’s mission is to strive to be an active group, and promote friendship and camaraderie. Dobson Pavement Pounders Do you want to start running, find some friends to walk with or train for an endurance run? Then it’s time to tackle your fitness goals with your friendly neighbors.

The Dobson Pavement Pounders promotes running, walking and friendships in the Dobson Ranch and surrounding neighborhoods.

By Ed Ricci Dobson Ranch had its Third Annual Adult Fishing Tournament on April 29 at Lake 1. The event was organized by the Dobson Ranch Fish Club. Fifteen Dobson Ranch permitted fishermen participated- from boat and shore. The rules were total length of bass for your three biggest fish. We gave prizes to both the adult, and to the 12 to 18-year-old age group. First place in the over 18 category went to John Kernes, followed by Ed Ricci and Matt Robinson. Only two fishermen caught 3 bass- John and Ed. John caught his fish on a twin-tailed grub on a jig head. Ed caught his fish with a crankbait, weighted fluke, and drop shot rig. Fishing was tough.

Lake 1 is so very healthy and filled with shad, but the fish were stingy on the bites that day. The dying of the lakes may have had something to do with changing the conditions enough to make the bass finicky. John also caught the biggest bass of the day measuring 16 ¾ inches, followed

by Wes VerWoert at 16 inches. The age 18 and under category was won

by Isiah Peterson, followed by Jordon Maxey. Isiah also caught a 17-inch catfish. Frank Garza won the “goon fish” award for the biggest fish that wasn’t a bass. His catfish was also 17 inches.

We greatly appreciate the participation of Dobson Ranch in sponsoring this event. We also thank Scott McAtee of Scott’s Appliance Service for his sponsorship. We hope that we can double the participation in next year’s event. Dobson Ranch and Scott contributed awards and prizes- so it was a really nice event for the Dobson Ranch fishermen. In addition to the prizes for most and biggest fish, each fisherman got a lure.

Fishing has been fair on our lakes. It is a matter of fishing when the bite is on. You can go a long time in between bites and you need to work it. It’s getting hot and that changes things as fishing will be best early or late in the day, or at night. Summertime fishing is typically similar to wintertime fishing in some ways. Slow down; let the fish see your presentation; and be patient. There is nothing like having a top water bait crashed in the dark of night when you really don’t know what could be on the other end of your line. Happy fishing.

Dobson Ranch Women’s Club Awards Six Scholarships

Clubs

Abbie Ahler – While in high school Abbie was active in the National Honor Society, Orchestra, Ceramics, and works at Dobson Ranch. She was on the Principal’s list for 4 years, is a top 20 graduate, in the 97th percentile of her class and has logged over 200 community service hours during her high school career. She plans on attending ASU, pursuing a major in Biotechnology with a minor in Spanish, then on to UC Davis for graduate school and procuring a doctorate in Biogenetic Engineering.

Abbie plans on working with genetically modified organisms and using biotechnology to advance our society.

Taylor Devlin - Taylor plans on attending Pima Medical Institute for Occupational Therapy Assistant program, to become a pediatric OTA. While in high school, Taylor was active in many clubs, excelled in Aquatics and was the captain of the swim and dive team. Among her awards were the Corona del Sol Swim and Dive Joe Sellen Leadership Award and MVP award. A former teacher describes Taylor: “Taylor has revealed herself to be an extraordinarily compassionate and empathetic young woman. She brings a diverse worldview and is a true pleasure to have in class”.

Brielle Hansen - The list of accomplishments and activities for Brielle is numerous, but includes: NHS President, AP Scholar with Distinction, Key Club Senior Representative, Marching Band, Societe Honoraire de Francais and more, all while achieving a 4.7 GPA. Brielle will pursue a double major in Conservation Biology and Marketing at BYU. Brielle states, “By knowing the exact scientific standpoint behind policies and programs myself, I can help persuade and educate businesses and the public about environmental concerns, why they matter, and how we can help”.

Jacob Massie - Jacob will be attending NAU to pursue a degree in Environmental Engineering with a minor in Forestry.

He is the recipient of the Lumberjack Scholarship. During his high school years, he has volunteered over 430 hours in the community. His former teacher describes Jacob: “he has demonstrated excellent leadership and organizational skills, accompanied by a drive and dedication not often seen in high school students”. With his degree, Jacob hopes to be involved in beneficial field work that can actually make a difference for improving our environment for many years to come.

Sonnie McLaughlin – Sonnie is an adult recipient of the scholarship and is continuing her education towards her BS in Nursing. She is a dedicated wife and mother to her children Trip and Sawyer. Her longtime friend stated: “it came as no surprise that Sonnie would quickly sail through her prerequisites, while juggling the demands of being a wife and mother, and involved member of the community, and is only anticipated that she will excel greatly in her nursing studies”. Sonnie wants to provide medical care beyond just the physical aspects and create an environment of emotional support for any patients she cares for.

Brandon Turley – Brandon will attend ASU and major in Electrical Engineering. He has received a Presidential Scholarship.

While in high school Brandon was a Cross Fit Instructor, President of the Dobson High Swim Team and received awards including The American Legion Award and Distinguished Athlete Award. His coach stated, “I have seen the sterling qualities of leadership, character, motivation and excellence that he exudes on a daily basis. I am very proud of the young man he has worked hard to become”.

Perils of Parvo

Parvo is a deadly virus that attacks the gastro intestinal tract causing vomiting, diarrhea and bloody stool. Severe infection can also impact the production of white blood cells. Parvo is seen mostly in puppies because their immune systems are not fully developed yet but a dog of any age can contract the virus if it has never been vaccinated against it.

Currently the only treatment for parvo is supportive care, hoping the immune system will be able to beat the virus on its own. Even with supportive care, the virus can often be fatal. It is 100% preventable with proper vaccination protocol. Puppies should receive a series of 4 vaccinations spaced 3 weeks apart.

Here are some tips to help keep your fur baby safe: • Take your puppy to the veterinarian for vaccines.

• Keep puppies at home!!! Parvo, like intestinal parasites is transmitted through fecal/oral contact.

• Parvo can live in an environment for 7 years or more. It can even be brought in to an environment on a person’s shoes or clothes.

• Chances of recovery are greatly improved if treatment is administered when the puppy first begins showing symptoms.

Prevention is the best medicine! Be sure to take extra precautions if you have a puppy who is not fully vaccinated or if you are considering adopting a young puppy from an unknown source. As always, feel free to contact your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns.

Mesa Hydration Donation Campaign is Underway June 5 through September 15, 2017 Dobson Ranch is a Drop Off Location

A news conference was held June 5 at the United Food Bank to launch the 11th Annual Mesa Hydration Campaign.

The Mesa Hydration Donation campaign, which started in 2007, is a partnership involving the City of Mesa, nonprofit agencies and businesses to provide supplies of water to those in need. The water is distributed through the United Food Bank to numerous nonprofit organizations in Mesa and throughout the valley. With triple digit temperatures on the rise, the need for water is critical.

Water donations may be dropped off at La Casita, 2719 S Reyes, any day of the week, during normal business hours. La Casita is closed July 4.

The Mesa Hydration Donation Campaign will be collecting water until Friday, September 15. For more information, visit www. mesaaz.gov/H2Omesa.

Franklin at Alma Elementary is a public parent choice school in the Mesa Public Schools district located in the Dobson Ranch neighborhood. The Franklin program is for parents who are looking for an alternative approach to education for their children who are in kindergarten through sixth grade.
