This month, we are excited to celebrate the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who will tie the knot at Windsor Castle on the 19th May. Many of us have been following the love story through the media. Have an excellent day cheering on the newlyweds.

The Royal Wedding is on the same day as the FA Cup Final so it’s a big day for those of you who love royalty and sport!

Let’s not forget the birth of our new Prince, who is the third child and second son to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. There’s currently a lot of excitement within the Royal Family – it’s great.

There are many ways to get involved with National Walking Month. Living Streets is a national charity which works to create safe, attractive and enjoyable streets. Their objective is to create a walking nation, free from congested roads and pollution.

Living Streets encourage people to take a pledge, by either walking to school during the 21st25th May or participating in #Try20, which encourages you to add an extra 20 minutes of walking every day. By joining thousands of families across the UK in these pledges, you will help cut congestion, make roads safer for children, fight against air pollution and build more physical activity into your family’s day to day life.

TO STRESS MEN DO NOT NEED TO FACE DEPRESSION ALONE Stress is something many men are affected by at some point in their life. By not controlling stress, mental health issues such as depression can arise. This month we highlight the issue depression, caused by stress, can have on men and how we can play a part in supporting.

Typically, men are more vulnerable to the effects of stress as they may perceive depression as a weakness. Even though we are living in a society in which there has been so much change towards the gender perceptions of both male and female, emotion among many men continues to be regarded as instability.

This is especially the case in developing countries where traditional gender roles are more strongly endorsed.

In fact, while more women have suicidal thoughts, a greater number of men die by taking their own lives.

Why? Many men are guilty for not truly expressing their emotion. They are known not to speak with each other about how they are feeling.

Men may identify they are stressed but fail to address the problem.

The charity suggests men are twice as likely as women to have nobody to rely on for emotional support. This is the average to around one in ten men. But there are plenty of methods to gain support.

Speaking to someone whom you trust can hugely help with addressing a concern with your mental health. Many specialists believe there is healing when telling people about what you are experiencing.

Identifying what may be the route cause of your depression is also important; once you know why you feel the way you do, you can address the problem for the better.

If you’re still feeling down or depressed after a couple of weeks, talk to your GP or call 111.

We need to support every man who may be facing a mental health problem.

Waterlooville, Denmead, Purbrook & Widley • May 2018 Edition FAMILIES TO BE ENTERTAINED AT THE OVERLOAD SHOW Families will be entertained when given the opportunity relive British military history at a popular Denmead event later this month.

The Overload Military Show, which will take place from Saturday 26th to Monday 28th May, will showcase hundreds of military vehicles and re-enactors from a wide period.

In early 1944 troops and vehicles massed in the area around the Solent in preparation for D-Day. 74 years later the annual show captures the sights and sounds of that era.

This year the site will include a separate off-road course, with driving demonstrations provided by the Wessex Hillrunners 4x4 Club. There will be free parking within the grounds. Public opening hours are 9.30am to 5.30pm on each of the three days of the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Admission is £10 per adult, £5 per child, seniors £8. A family ticket for 2 adults and 3 children (5 to 15 year old) is just £25.

This show depicts not only the Second World War, with themed events including a daily 1940’s fashion show and vintage funfair, but has vehicles, and living history groups representing conflicts from World War One through to the more recent Gulf War. The weekend will have an excellent selection of food stands, as well as an onside beer tent allowing people to spend the whole day in the outdoors. ` A special demonstration of the vehicles and weaponry used in World War 2 will also please the crowds. COUNTRYSIDE WALK TO RAISE CASH FOR WATERLOOVILLE HOSPICE Hundreds of people are expected to participate in a fun sponsored dog walk for the Rowans Hospice, based in Waterlooville.

The Woofs and Wellies spring walk will be held at Queen Elizabeth Country Park on Sunday 20th May, between 9am and 1pm.

More than 300 dogs and their human best friends are expected to walk through the stunning countryside while raising cash for the hospice.

The Team Wiseman Boxing champion beat Kings Heath’s Akash Tuquir in his 60kg final at the York Hall in Bethnal Green with judges split on the win. The youngster has received a call from England after the win with an international outing earmarked for later in the summer.

Raising money will be achieved by the registration of dogs costing £5 each. Walkers are being recommended to raise at least £25 of sponsorship money to support the work of the hospice.

It is 20 years since a boxer from the local area won the elite title while training at a local club. As Chamberlain joins the elite list, his coach Daron Wiseman has been left ecstatic by the result.

The Rowans Hospice provide the highest quality specialist end of life care. Their team support patients and those closest to them throughout the whole journey of an illness.

He said on social media: “What an amazing achievement. Overwhelmed at the support.

Woken up feeling so proud it’s unreal.” The coach says the team have already received calls from professional ranks – but have no interest in them just yet. The boxer has desires to continue building a reputation in amateur boxing before moving on to professional boxing and wining a greater number of prestigious championships.

The hospice relies substantially on donations, so all money raised at this event will be poured back into their operations to support the community.
