There are plenty of beautiful walking trails to visit within Hampshire.

St Catherine’s Hill This walk starts from Garnier Road Winchester, SO23 9PA. You will have chance to explore Winchester itself, a historic bustling cathedral city, before the walk passes through the tranquil water meadows and along the River Itchen. The route then climbs St Catherine’s Hill, the site of an ancient hill fort which provides stunning views across the city, before descending and continuing along another stretch of the river and back to the city. Holly Bank Woods Hollybank Woods is just North of Emsworth at the end of Holly Bank Lane, PO10 7EU. The woods are managed day to day by the Friends of Hollybank Woods for conservation and forestry on behalf of Havant Borough Council. The area comprises 157 acres of mostly mature broadleaved woodland, with a younger conifer forestry plantation and groups of conifer stands. Feel free to wonder on different trails in the woods, who knows what you might come across!

Beaulieu Food Trail Explore the beautiful Hampshire village of Beaulieu, before following the Beaulieu River south to the shipbuilding village of Bucklers Hard. The Trail starts from Palace Lane, Brockenhurst, SO427YG and is 2.2 miles each way. But, your day out can be as long or short as you like. Brockenhurst to Lyndhurst This 6.5-mile walk starts at Hollands Wood in Brockenhurst, SO42 7QH, winding through wildlife-rich forests to Beechen Lane in Lyndhurst. Look out for deer and ponies as you make your way north towards the ‘capital’ of the New Forest.

Hayling Billy Trail The Hayling Billy Coastal Path is a track used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders along the bed of an old railway line between Havant and Hayling Island. The Hayling Billy Trail starts in the car park of Havant train station.

Follow the clearly marked cycle path to New Lane and through the crossing gates. You may of course join the trail at numerous points along the way. Music lovers can enjoy the 2018 West Meon Music Festival and support a local charity at the same time.

This year’s festival, from 14th -16th September 2018 at venues in West Meon and Warnford, has once again chosen The Rosemary Foundation as its main charity.

The event includes a Viennese-themed concert on Friday, 14th September at St John the Evangelist Church in West Meon, Celtic music at the Thomas Lord pub on the Saturday and concerts with transport, the baroque and World War One themes over the weekend.

The Rosemary Foundation provides a ‘Hospice at Home’ service in East Hampshire for patients in the latter stage of life threatening conditions. Our service is free to patients and carers but we receive no statutory funding. Trust manager Jeremy Mitchell said: “We love the music festival and we are so grateful to organisers and ticket buyers for supporting us this year.”

THE PETERSFIELD SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL The Petersfield Shakespeare Festival has enjoyed its most successful season so far, with almost 1800 people visiting the enchanting open-air venue in the grounds of Bedales School.

The festival presented ambitious interpretations of two plays linked by the theme of Epic battles – Henry V and The Taming of the Shrew. From page to stage the process was completed in just nine days of intense rehearsal and frantic behind the scenes work.

The festival opened on 18th July with a twenty strong cast of largely professional actors recreating the battle of Agincourt in Henry V; It was a production full of brilliant movement sequences, stirring battle scenes and magnificent poetry. The setting of a World War 1 field hospital was imaginatively created with a spiky wooden barricade and the trenches of the Somme.

Just one week later, and in complete contrast, the scene shifted to the domestic battlefront of man vs. woman, when the same company performed a sparkling new adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew

FAMILY CREATIVE ACTIVITY FAIR

A STUDENT SACRIFICED HER LOCKS TO SUPPORT TWO CHARITIES CLOSE TO HER HEART.

Town Mayor, Hilary Ayer is currently organising a family creative activity fair in Festival Hall, Petersfield on the 6th of October from 9:30 AM – 5 PM. The fair is called ‘It Takes a Village to Raise a Child’.

Town Mayor - Hilary Ayer states: “The event will be a creative fun day, with lots to do as well as raising money for Home-Start Butser, a charity working with young families to give young people a better start in life”.

Home-Start Butser was launched in 1973 and plays a vital role in supporting local families and young children at times of need and stress. The charity helps people to reduce feelings of isolation while encouraging the local community to work together to support these families.

The activity fair will include, light refreshments in the Rose Room throughout the day and will be displaying a variety of stalls such as wine tasting, patchwork and sculptures. The fair will also be running creative workshops by Sew Creative and Handmade Happiness which younger visitors would especially enjoy.

Children can also attend the storytelling corner run by several friends including Michelle Magorian, who will read your favourite stories through the day as well as taking part in a fabulous Bear Hunt!

We can also announce that Local MP Damien Hinds, will be joining visitors for coffee and a chat at 10 AM. Sophie Morris raises more than £1,000 for Sebastian’s Action Trust and the Little Princess Trust in memory of her friend who died three years ago.

Her mother states: “Ever since then, Sophie’s been waiting for her hair to grow long enough to raise money for the trust through a head shave, and so the off-cuts would be long enough to donate to both trusts. So, over the school half-term, she did a head shave to benefit the two great charities. She went back to school after the holiday with a radical new hairstyle, a crewcut”.
