Besides, a healthy mind resides only in a healthy body, meaning being happy is directly related to boosting your mental strength and health so that happiness can be considered as one of many results of a healthy and active lifestyle. However, a happy mind is not the only benefit of keeping healthy and active.

Staying active will improve both your physical

appearance, and your ability to perform tasks that you may now struggle with, leading you into a stress-free lifestyle and allowing you to maintain happy moods and high energy levels with no stress at all. Staying fit requires consistency, but should always be prioritised by each individual due to the benefits largely outweighing the non-existent drawbacks.

Generally, a proper diet consists of eating a variety of different foods, which include; eating green and fresh vegetables, fruits, dairy, proteins, vitamins and minerals essential for a human’s lifestyle. Consumption of sugary and fatty foods, in addition to alcohol intake, is not forbidden, however, should be limited.

The correct amount of sleep, between 7-9 hours, is essential for you to function at your best. Water is also a must! Your body is made of 60% water, so the consumption of water is crucial for vital bodily functions such as digestion, circulation, and maintaining bodily temperature.

Finally, find some exercise you enjoy, you are much more likely to stick to it if you do! It does not have to be vigorous, instead keep it consistent, and choose to exercise with friends or groups where possible to keep yourself encouraged and motivated.

But the months following Christmas aren't always easy; pushing aside the excitement of the New Year, the worrying itch for the next payday begins to sit at the forefront of people's minds. The dark dreariness of British winter weather brings down the once merry moods and sometimes it's easy to brush off mental health – when really, it's one of the essential components of keeping healthy, yet people are still afraid to talk about it.

One in six people in the UK report that they have suffered from mental health issues – this does not include the people who choose not to speak about these issues, in which 40% of men will never discuss their mental health. While women are typically more open when talking about their mental health; they are twice as likely to go through a depressive episode. Especially with the days being shorter, the lack of daylight means people are far more susceptible to falling into the seasonal depression.

The Samaritan's mission is to make sure there is someone there for everyone; they encourage and promote connecting with people to talk about how they feel. They can be contacted by phone, email, letter, or even visited at one of their local branches – where a trained volunteer will be there to listen.

It's the small talk that helps save lives – sometimes just talking to a friend or someone who will listen can make a huge difference, and can evoke change and help someone's mental health improve for the better.

We recruit and train volunteers to support parents so they can enable and encourage parents to give their children the best start in life.

Set in a beautiful rural destination, Horse and Jockey is a family friendly and dog friendly pub & restaurant offering a relaxing atmosphere amongst its roaring fires, beautiful gardens and countryside views.

Do you have 2 to 3 hours to give each week? Would you consider being a friend to a family?

We hold preperstion courses for volunteers several times a year. Mileage expenses can be claimed and regular support is given to all Volunteers. If you would like to find out more please contact us on the details below.

MEON VALLEY LIONS EMBARK ON ANOTHER FUNDRAISING CHALLENGE

SUPPORTING THE UNSUNG HEROES OF THE MEON VALLEY Meon Valley Food Bank are some of the unsung heroes in the Meon area providing essential help when people need it, often when others have nowhere else to turn.

The Meon Valley Lions were proud to present them with a cheque for £300 to continue their amazing work and provide some extra treats for families during the festive season. The Food Bank is located in Bishops Waltham.

As you can imagine the hampers we’re well received and made a huge difference, especially during the Christmas period; “without the support of the Lions and all the local people who support us we wouldn’t be able to do this, so we would like to say a special thank you to everyone for the generous support throughout the year.”

In January, the Meon Valley Lions will embark on one of their more challenging activities in their fundraising calendar, the Lions are descending on Weston Shore, near Netley, for the annual charity Ford Fishing Festival.

The weather can be interesting at this time of year, ranging from sub-zero temperatures to horizontal rain off the Solent, so it is sure to be a huge challenge!

Next year will be the fishing competition’s 45th year and as last year, the money raised from the event are then donated to The Rose Road Association.

The Rose Road Association provide vital services for over 300 children and young people with severe physical disabilities, learning difficulties and/or autism from across Hampshire.
