It’s been another brilliant and busy year here at TDG… Here are just some of our highlights from 2018.
JANUARY
In January we selected our chosen charities for 2018 which were: The Elizabeth Foundation, The Rosemary Foundation, HART Wildlife Rescue and RNLI Lifeboats. It’s been great to share the latest news from these amazing charities across Hampshire, and to do our bit to raise awareness. The RosemaRy FoundaTion hospice aT home
MARCH We donated over 50 Easter eggs to Southern Energy Training & Assessment Ltd who passed these on to local food banks for families in need.
APRIL On the 3rd April we celebrated The Directory Group being in business and helping to promote local business for 13 years!

Our loveable office dog Barney celebrated his 6th birthday, which is 40 in dog years!
OCTOBER
In October we did our bit for Breast Cancer Awareness month, and took part in Wear It Pink day! Everyone in the office donated £5 towards this cause, and we all sat down for a delicious soup lunch.
NOVEMBER
The TDG and Beautiful South marketing team enjoyed a relaxing press day at the Ageas Bowl Eforea Spa, and had a luxurious day enjoying the spa facilities and treatments.
DECEMBER
Christmas cheer took over the TDG office throughout December, and the team were all hands on deck to make sure our January Directories and Beautiful South January/February got to the printers ready for distribution in 2019! We also took Reverse Advent Calendar donations once again, and thanks to your generosity we had many boxes which were donated to food banks across Hampshire.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to indulge in a sweet treat, whether you’re enjoying a night in with family, friends, or your partner. Waffles are the perfect desert (or main event) to celebrate the most romantic day of the year as they are easy to make, and ideal for sharing!
HOW TO MAKE IT: Add flour, cocoa, sugar and baking powder to a large bowl, and gradually stir in the milk and egg mix until combined. Whisking until the batter is completely smooth, and double check for any lumps. You can make the batter up to 2 hrs before and leave at room temperature, or alternatively make up to 4 hrs ahead and chill. Preheat your waffle maker and brush with a little oil. Pour in half the batter, close and cook for 3 mins, or longer depending on your machine. Once cooked, repeat with the remaining batter. Alternatively, if you don’t have a waffle maker you can cook half the mixture on a preheated griddle brushed with oil for 2 mins each side over a medium heat, then repeat with the remaining batter. Melt the chocolate with the cream over a medium heat and whisk constantly. Once melted, take off the heat and add 1 tbsp milk to thicken the chocolate mixture. Halve each waffle and arrange on a large plate. Serve with your favourite sweet of savoury topping such as ice cream and raspberries, chocolate sauce, or bacon and maple syrup.

2. Then add a squeeze of fresh lime, 10ml of raspberry liqueur and 10ml of sugar syrup and shake all the ingredients well.
3. Once shaken, pour into a high ball glass, and top with your desired amount of raspberry lemonade.

Meon Valley • February 2019 Edition A WAR MEMORIAL IN MEON VALLEY WILL BE REDEDICATED HAVING BEEN FULLY RESTORED A WAR memorial in a Meon Valley community has been rededicated having been fully restored. More than £1,300 has been spent on retiling and repointing the lychgate entrance to St Andrew’s Church in Meonstoke.
“Funding from the War Memorial Trust Grants Scheme, supported by the First World War Memorials Programme, made it possible.” The Parochial Church Council of Corhampton and St Andrew’s, Meonstoke were heavily involved in the project while Ian Ellis, Julian Livingstone, the church’s
architect, and Jerry Pett deserve special praise for their efforts. The rededication serviceon the 6th of January was led by The Archdeacon of the Meon, the Venerable Gavin Collins. Frances Moreton, Director, War Memorials Trust said: “War memorials are a tangible connection to our shared past creating a link between the fallen and today. WINE TASTING EVENING TO FUNDRAISE FOR CHARITIES
HELP FOR PEOPLE STRUGGLING TO KEEP THEIR HOMES WARM THIS WINTER As winter sets in, families and vulnerable people who struggle to keep their homes warm can get help from Hampshire County Council’s Hitting the Cold Spots initiative.
RAISE your glasses, people of Bishop’s Waltham, for tickets will soon be available for a fundraising wine tasting evening. Town supermarket, Budgens, together with their international wine supplier, Laithwaites, are generously sponsoring the February 22nd event organised by the Rotary Club of Bishop’s Waltham. Tickets will be available from January 2nd but are limited, with the evening featuring a free wine-tasting competition and the chance to win some very special vintages. Teams of six or eight have been invited to test their knowledge with a ploughman’s supper included in the ticket price. Proceeds from the event will be shared between The Rainbow Centre, Macmillan Nurses and Lymphoma Support, for tickets and more details email: mike.berry@bishopswalthamrotary.org.uk Meanwhile, the group welcomed a new member at their most recent meeting. Jenny Cuttriss became their latest addition. A newcomer to the town, Jenny (pictured above with Club President, John Natt) is already involved with the Church and The Bishop’s Waltham Society.
Councillor Liz Fairhurst, Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “Cold weather can present a very real risk of serious health problems, especially for older people, the very young and those with long term medical conditions.” Now in its eighth year, this county-wide affordable warmth project offers advice and support to people who are having trouble staying warm during the winter, including home visits, help to access funding for boiler repairs and replacements and temporary heating. Hampshire residents can also receive advice and get referred to other services for further help, including ‘safe and well’ visits and healthy living advice. Some of the services have eligibility criteria, but the phone advice line is open to all Hampshire residents.
