The TDG and Beautiful South marketing team enjoyed a relaxing press day at the Ageas Bowl Eforea Spa, and had a luxurious day enjoying the spa facilities and treatments.
DECEMBER
Christmas cheer took over the TDG office throughout December, and the team were all hands on deck to make sure our January Directories and Beautiful South January/February got to the printers ready for distribution in 2019! We also took Reverse Advent Calendar donations once again, and thanks to your generosity we had many boxes which were donated to food banks across Hampshire.

Showers • Bathrooms • Kitchens Waterproofing of Bathrooms/ Wet Rooms Latex Floor Levelling Crewmember Simon ‘Mac’ MacPherson having spent a lifetime sailing and in motor boats is now transferring some of that experience to volunteers at the Lifeboat Station. ‘Mac’ was brought up in the East End of London but by the age of 14 was sailing a British Moth dinghy. This created his passion for being on the water with sea fishing rapidly becoming a hobby which he still maintains. The sailing bug led him to take his Yachtmaster qualifications in both sail and power. His tutor saw a potential teacher in him and so he started a part-time role as an Instructor. Moving onto Hayling Island in June 2017 he quickly joined the RNLI as a shore crew member and he has rapidly progressed to now being a Head Launcher. He has also recently taken over the role of Training Co-ordinator, a major job getting 30 crew organised and arranging their training and assessment. The Lifeboat Station is delighted to have him on the crew and he too said ‘I am pleased to be with a great bunch of people. It’s lovely to see youngsters moving through the training and I enjoy passing on my marine experience.’ Asked for a memorable moment he recalled early in February 2018 when his wife, out walking on the beach saw a kayaker capsize and phoned ‘Mac.’ He told her to call the Coastguards, whilst he rushed to the station, and with the shore crew launched the lifeboat which helped save a man’s life who had severe hypothermia.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to indulge in a sweet treat, whether you’re enjoying a night in with family, friends, or your partner. Waffles are the perfect desert (or main event) to celebrate the most romantic day of the year as they are easy to make, and ideal for sharing!
HOW TO MAKE IT: Add flour, cocoa, sugar and baking powder to a large bowl, and gradually stir in the milk and egg mix until combined. Whisking until the batter is completely smooth, and double check for any lumps. You can make the batter up to 2 hrs before and leave at room temperature, or alternatively make up to 4 hrs ahead and chill. Preheat your waffle maker and brush with a little oil. Pour in half the batter, close and cook for 3 mins, or longer depending on your machine. Once cooked, repeat with the remaining batter. Alternatively, if you don’t have a waffle maker you can cook half the mixture on a preheated griddle brushed with oil for 2 mins each side over a medium heat, then repeat with the remaining batter. 2. Then add a squeeze of fresh lime, 10ml of raspberry liqueur and 10ml of sugar syrup and shake all the ingredients well.
3. Once shaken, pour into a high ball glass, and top with your desired amount of raspberry lemonade.
4. Garnish with crushed ice, raspberries and a slice of lime.

Emsworth • February 2019 Edition LOCAL CLUBS JOIN FORCES TO SUPPORT THEIR CHARITY’S BIG GIVE CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE At the end of 2018, local charity Brendoncare Clubs took part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge – the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign, which helps UKregistered charities raise funds for their cause. Brendoncare’s aim was to raise £20,000 in matched funds over a seven day period for their clubs service. To support the charity’s efforts, one local club member, Chris Bailey – who attends Emsworth Kurling Club every Monday afternoon at the Emsworth Community Centre – suggested an inter-clubs competition between some local clubs as an ideal opportunity to bring clubs together. He suggested some fun, food and kurling, all to help raise money for Brendoncare’s Big Give Challenge. Liaising with Bill Tasker, club leader from Hillside & Wymering Kurling Club, Chris organised the competition between the two clubs with Hillside & Wymering bringing along a group of eight on the day. It was a real team effort with volunteers and members helping make lunch for 23 people, whilst donations were also given for the raffle, which included two delicious hampers from Brendoncare’s
