DONATE YOUR UNUSED FOOD THIS WINTER AND CHANGE LIVES WITH A REVERSE ADVENT CALENDAR… Winter can be a hard season for everyone, but it’s particularly difficult for many local families who struggle to make ends meet and have no idea where their next meal will come from. Here at The Directory Group, we want to help those in need, and we’re hoping you’ll join us in providing local families and food banks with food boxes this year. Last year we collected 150 reverse advent boxes, let’s see if we can top that this year! Just a few jars and tins from your cupboard will make a huge difference in providing a reverse advent calendar.
WHAT IS A REVERSE ADVENT CALENDAR? Unlike the chocolate advent calendar we see at Christmas, reverse advent calendars are designed to give something back to those less fortunate. Each day, you add a non-perishable food item to the box/basket until you have 24 items ready to donate to those less fortunate.
HOW TO TAKE PART? Taking part is simple. All you need is a sturdy box/basket, and then each day leading up to Christmas you add a new item. The idea is that you add 24 items, just like an advent calendar.
WHAT TO INCLUDE? When planning your box, think of staple foods that will feed a family. Items such as tinned and jarred food (including meat), pasta, rice, biscuits, UHT milk, baby formula, fruit juice, and anything else that has a long shelf life (no fresh goods please). Once your box is completed, drop off to our office at 1 Viceroy Court, Bedford Rd, Petersfield GU32 3LJ, or we can arrange to pick it up if you can’t get to us. These turkey, stuffing and mozzarella parcels are the perfect festive finger food and won’t take hours to make, meaning you can get back to the party!

Lay the turkey breasts onto a foiled baking tray and season with salt and pepper. 1. House Builds Extensions Roofing Sprinkle lightly with oil and cook for 30-minutes (or until cooked through).

Fold the four corners the pastry square into the middle to create your parcel, and seal by brushing egg across the top.
6.
Transfer the parcels onto a baking tray and cook for 15-20 minutes at 200 degrees until the pastry is golden and puffed.

Turkey, stuffing & mozzarella parcels With so many get-togethers, parties and celebrations throughout December, it’s the perfect time to bring out a signature Christmas canapé that you can whip up quickly and wow your guests with. These turkey, stuffing and mozzarella parcels are the perfect festive finger food and won’t take hours to make, meaning you can get back to the party!

The Method...
Lay the turkey breasts onto a foiled baking tray and season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle lightly with oil and cook for 30-minutes (or until cooked through). Once cooked, cut into bite-size squares and set aside. Make up your stuffing according to the packet details and set aside. Roll out your pasty into 10 x 10cm squares. You should be able to make 15 squares from your pastry.

Using a pastry brush, lightly spread mustard and cranberry sauce onto each square, and then add the turkey pieces, a slice of mozzarella and stuffing on top.

Fold the four corners the pastry square into the middle to create your parcel, and seal by brushing egg across the top.

Transfer the parcels onto a baking tray and cook for 15-20 minutes at 200 degrees until the pastry is golden and puffed.
7.
If you wish to freeze your parcels, simply put into a freezer bag before cooking, and take out to defrost the night before you wish to cook them.

50ml vodka (either traditional vodka, or a flavoured vodka such as vanilla or chocolate will give additional flavour)
25ml coffee liqueur 25ml of espresso

Begin by making an espresso, either with a coffee machine or by adding 20ml of water to 5ml of instant coffee. Set this aside to cool slightly.
Shake for around 30 seconds, and then strain into a chilled martini glass. Sprinkle a handful of coffee beans and crushed ginger biscuits onto the drink and serve. If you’re not a lover of ginger but like the idea of an alternative espresso martini, why not swap the gingerbread syrup for vanilla, peppermint or orange? You’ll still get the lovely kick of coffee, but with a sweetness to suit your own preference!

For the mince mixture, add all the ingredients into a medium pot and bring to the boil and leave to cool at room temperature. Heat the oven to 180oC. To make the pastry, cream the butter and sugar with the paddle attachment, on high speed. With the motor running, add the egg yolk and mix until incorporated. Lower the speed to 1 and add the flour. Mix until dough just starts to clump, but don’t over work it. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured board, and gently work to form a ball. Roll the dough out to 5mm thick, and cut into circles 8.5cm in diameter. Line a muffin tray with the pastry discs and fill with mince mixture. Use a 5cm diameter star cutter to cut out stars of the remaining pastry and place on the mince pies. Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges. Leave to cool completely and dust with icing sugar to finish.

Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall? You will be now with our DIY stocking instructions Nothing quite beats a handmade Christmas decoration, especially when the whole family s gets involved and makes something special. These DIY stockings are easy to make, can be personalised to your individual style, and will look stunning hanging along the fireplace! Begin by drawing a stocking shape on a piece of cardboard. Depending on how large you want your final stocking to be, we recommend cutting a shape that measures roughly 20x50cm to make a medium-large finished product. Transfer the shape onto your fabric of choice and cut out twice. Stitch the two shapes together either by hand or using a sewing machine (remember to leave the top of the stocking open so you can put your presents inside). Once you have stitched the edges, take your faux fur and cut to the same width as your stocking, and either glue or sew to the top of the stocking. The final step is to personalise your stocking to your own preferences! If you’re a keen embroiderer, you could use embroidery thread to stitch on your own snowflakes, or alternatively you could use other pieces of fabric to create a festive pattern. To hang your stocking, simply attach a piece of twine or ribbon to the top.

893912 Tel: 02392 599199 The roof was raised and staff at The Rosemary Foundation were rocked last month when local group The Zig Zag Band raised more than £5000 at a charity gig at Selborne Village Hall. The local band, which was also celebrating its tenth birthday, played covers all night on Saturday, 10th November to a packed house. Jeremy Mitchell, general manager of The Rosemary Foundation said: “The Zig Zag band was absolutely fantastic. They raised money for us by asking people to sponsor tunes to perform.” Bedales School is hosting The Magic of Christmas, a concert by the Emsworth Concert Band, on Saturday, 15th December, raising money for the foundation, among other charities. Tickets are available from One Tree Books in Lavant Street, Petersfield. The Rosemary Foundation offers a “Hospice at Home” service in Petersfield and surrounding communities, providing nurses for home visits to patients in the latter stage of life-limiting conditions. The service is provided at no cost to patients but the foundation receives no government or NHS funding, relying solely on the generosity and support of local volunteers and fund-raisers.

CO-OP KITS OUT CLANFIELD FC YOUTH TEAM “For me, it means the children can go out onto the pitch, feeling smart and proud of the club they play for, ready to enjoy themselves and give their best.” Southern Co-op’s Clanfield store supported the youth football club as part of its community engagement programme ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’
A community-based local youth football team has been proudly sporting more than just their skills this season as they have also been showing off a brand new kit donated by Southern Co-op.The club is celebrating its 35th year of providing football in the local community. It is run entirely by volunteers and has grown to more than 15 youth teams across ages from Under 7s to Under 18s, as well as having two adult teams. Tony Walker, one of the coaches for Clanfield Football Club’s Under 7s, said: “As a club we try and keep our costs as low as possible so that playing football can be accessible for all.
Tom King, Duty Manager at Southern Coop’s Clanfield store, said: “It is great to see the funding being used for kit, equipment and generally to help fund the team to give opportunities for all kids to play organised football. “We supported them because they are very local and we feel strongly in giving young kids the opportunity to participate in organised football and other sports events. It also encourages healthy living through exercise.”

CLANFIELD REMEMBRANCE SERVICE RAISES £522.75 FOR POPPY APPEAL
REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE AT THE HORNDEAN WAR MEMORIAL The annual Remembrance Day parade and service at the Horndean War Memorial took place on Sunday 11th November. The service was very well attended, and it’s estimated that 1600 people attended the event in Horndean Village Square.
The Remembrance Service in Clanfield took place on Sunday 11th November at Clanfield Memorial Hall, and the sun was shining for the event after heavy rain in the days leading up to it. Revd. Anne Gothard of St James Church led the service and remarked on how poignant and moving the service was, especially as a veteran wife herself. There was a fantastic turnout for this years event, with over 300 people attending including the Scouts and Beavers, who looked incredibly smart in their uniforms. Serving personnel from The British Army, Royal Navy and The Royal Marines were also in attendance. Children from Clanfield Junior School and Petersgate Infant School also came to the service and lay a wreath. The service took donations and a huge £522.75 was raised, all of which will be donated to The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
The parade from the Scout Hut was well supported by several local organisations. It was led by the Horndean Marching Band and Parade Marshall Sgt G J Griffin RAFAC SNCO Discip 2260 (Waterlooville) Squadron Air Training Corps to the Square in Horndean. The Joint Area Dean of Havant, The Revd Canon Karina Green, led the service and was accompanied by Father Daniel from St Edmunds Church Horndean. Young people got involved by reading prayers, Blendworth Brass Band accompanied the singing and the people of Horndean were able to pay their respects for the 100th anniversary of WW1. The brave men and women involved the conflict of the war were remembered with reverence at the WW1 centenary, and the service was described as incredibly moving.
