The Rosemary Foundation has found a new home after outgrowing its old offices and in January is moving from Langrish into 35 Lavant Street in Petersfield to grow its activities. General manager Jeremy Mitchell said: “This move gives us the opportunity to run a range of group support activities more efficiently in separate rooms rather than sharing one space, as well as adding new ones.” Staff are moving equipment and furniture during December and from Monday, 14th January, anyone wishing to make a donation or talk to a member of staff can contact the office on 01730 266329, or drop in and see them. It’s been another brilliant and busy year here at TDG… Here are just some of our highlights from 2018.
JANUARY
In January we selected our chosen charities for 2018 which were: The Elizabeth Foundation, The Rosemary Foundation, HART Wildlife Rescue and RNLI Lifeboats. It’s been great to share the latest news from these amazing charities across Hampshire, and to do our bit to raise awareness. The RosemaRy FoundaTion hospice aT home
MARCH We donated over 50 Easter eggs to Southern Energy Training & Assessment Ltd who passed these on to local food banks for families in need.
APRIL On the 3rd April we celebrated The Directory Group being in business and helping to promote local business for 13 years!

OCTOBER
In October we did our bit for Breast Cancer Awareness month, and took part in Wear It Pink day! Everyone in the office donated £5 towards this cause, and we all sat down for a delicious soup lunch.
NOVEMBER
The TDG and Beautiful South marketing team enjoyed a relaxing press day at the Ageas Bowl Eforea Spa, and had a luxurious day enjoying the spa facilities and treatments.
DECEMBER
Christmas cheer took over the TDG office throughout December, and the team were all hands on deck to make sure our January Directories and Beautiful South January/February got to the printers ready for distribution in 2019! We also took Reverse Advent Calendar donations once again, and thanks to your generosity we had many boxes which were donated to food banks across Hampshire.

2. Healthy snacks
January is essentially the Monday of the year, with everyone struggling to get back into a routine after the festive period, pockets feeling that bit lighter, and a general sluggishness sets in after overindulging throughout December. ALTON’S YULETIDE WEEKEND It was another successful year for Alton’s Yuletide Weekend which launched with Small Business Saturday on 1st December, when High Street shops were encouraged to entice residents to “Shop Local” whilst being entertained with live musical performances from Michael Twiddy, Tim Visser and Megan Collins on the stage in the centre of the High Street In the afternoon the popular Home-Start Hampshire Santa Run took place from 2.00pm-3.30pm with Santa’s Grotto, mulled wine & entertainment in the Market Square. The YEM Theatre School led the audience in a “carol singing
procession” up to the Assembly Rooms where the town’s switch-on event took place. Reverend Micklefield delivered a Christmas message on behalf of the Parish of the Resurrection which was then followed by the Christmas Light Switchon, which featured a one of a kind giant illuminated Santa Hat and the day ending with a performance from Alexa Messenger singing. The Town Mayor, Derek Gardner said “What a fantastic turn-out for the yuletide weekend. It was great to see so many families enjoy the free ice skating and people taking part in the Santa Run. Thank you to all our sponsors, stall holders, performers, volunteers and most of all to everyone who came along.” Alton Town Council would like to thank Specsavers, Everyone Active, P.J Grace, Homes Estate Agents, Christmas Trees by ACS, Brendon Care, Kemp and Stevens and an anonymous private donor who between them contributed £2585 towards the Christmas Lights and Yuletide attractions.

ALTON HONOURS THE OPIES - WORLD FAMOUS FOLKLORISTS & AUTHORS The unveiling of the Blue Heritage Plaque was timed to mark the centenary of Peter Opie’s birth. The Town Council welcomed James and Robert Opie, the sons of Peter and Iona at the unveiling where they cut the celebration cake in honour of their parents.
On Saturday 17th November, the Deputy Town Mayor officially unveiled a Blue Heritage Plaque in honour of Peter and Iona Opie at their former Alton residence, 100 High Street Alton (currently Downie & Gadban Solicitors.) The Opies are world renowned folklorists, who applied modern research techniques to children’s literature, as summarised in their studies The Oxford Dictionary of Nursery Rhymes (1951) and The Lore and Language of Schoolchildren (1959). Peter & Iona Opie were also noted anthologists, and assembled large collections of childrens literature, toys, and games. The Opies lived at 100 High Street between 1949 and 1959, during which time they authored their first acknowledged masterpiece, a great achievement in the field which is still a reference book in teacher training worldwide.
“James and Robert Opie were overjoyed that the Town Council were recognising their parents’ achievements with the plaque and confirmed that Alton was the first town to do so.” Deputy Town Mayor, Councillor Allan Chick said: “I would like to thank the building owners, the Executors of Peter John Roper Bathurst deceased and the current occupiers, Downie and Gadban Solicitors for granting the Town Council permission to display the heritage plaque.
