Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to indulge in a sweet treat, whether you’re enjoying a night in with family, friends, or your partner. Waffles are the perfect desert (or main event) to celebrate the most romantic day of the year as they are easy to make, and ideal for sharing!

HOW TO MAKE IT: Add flour, cocoa, sugar and baking powder to a large bowl, and gradually stir in the milk and egg mix until combined. Whisking until the batter is completely smooth, and double check for any lumps. You can make the batter up to 2 hrs before and leave at room temperature, or alternatively make up to 4 hrs ahead and chill. Preheat your waffle maker and brush with a little oil. Pour in half the batter, close and cook for 3 mins, or longer depending on your machine. Once cooked, repeat with the remaining batter. Alternatively, if you don’t have a waffle maker you can cook half the mixture on a preheated griddle brushed with oil for 2 mins each side over a medium heat, then repeat with the remaining batter. Melt the chocolate with the cream over a medium heat and whisk constantly. Once melted, take off the heat and add 1 tbsp milk to thicken the chocolate mixture. Halve each waffle and arrange on a large plate. Serve with your favourite sweet of savoury topping such as ice cream and raspberries, chocolate sauce, or bacon and maple syrup.

1. In a cocktail shaker add ice, fresh raspberries and

25ml Raspberry Vodka Raspberry Lemonade 10ml Raspberry Liqueur 10ml Sugar syrup 10ml lime juice Handful of fresh raspberries

2. Then add a squeeze of fresh lime, 10ml of raspberry liqueur and 10ml of sugar syrup and shake all the ingredients well.

3. Once shaken, pour into a high ball glass, and top with your desired amount of raspberry lemonade.

4. Garnish with crushed ice, raspberries and a slice of lime.

If you prefer mango, strawberry or apple flavour, simply replace with your flavoured vodka of choice, and swap the raspberry for regular lemonade.

Alton & Alresford • February 2019 Edition HAMPSHIRE BAND THE DOLOMITES RAISE £1358.00 FOR CHARITY Shauna Butler, a photography hobbyist, recently started a photography business hoping that it would become her full-time career path. During last year Shauna had been following around a local band called The Dolomites, a 50’s and 60’s rock and roll band who cover a variety of famous rock and roll and country songs, from the likes of The Beatles, Chuck Berry, The Kinks, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and many more with an ever growing set list! The Dolomites are a female-fronted band with four great vocal talents with backing sound of lead and rhythm guitars, bass and drums. The female lead singer wears a 50’s halter neck frock and the gents wear sharp suits and skinny ties; all of the members have individual Dolomite names.

The band, originally from the north of Hampshire and Surrey (where they also tour and perform regularly) some of them have known each other for many years, 2018 was their first year together as “The Dolomites” and their first gig was the 24th Jan 2018 (so they will soon be celebrating their 1st Dolomite birthday). In 2018 they played an amazing 117 gigs in 107 different venues and already this year in 2019 they are looking busy with gigs booked up and down the south and also going further afield like a long weekend on the Isle of Wight in June. On the 22nd December the Dolomites hosted a Christmas party (an event that sold out!) in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell and they raised an amazing £1358.00 for the charity. Shauna stated “the band are great at performing and give off so much energy, every night the dance floor is full. They are such a friendly bunch who take their time to go around and talk to guests and get to know them.” Shauna took the photograph to the left at another gig they did in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell (which raised another £815!). We cared for more than 230 patients, and their families, recruited four new nurses and care-workers and engaged nine new volunteers to work in our Volunteer Visiting (Befriending) Service. During our 22-year history our nurses have cared for more than 2,500 patients and supported their families and carers through our Bereavement Counselling and Support service.

All our activities continue to be delivered free of charge, 24/7, for patients with any form of life-limiting condition living within a 15-mile radius of Petersfield. We work closely with the local community nursing teams, and those from Rowans Hospice and Macmillan Midhurst to enable more patients to spend their last days at home.

The most significant change for 2019 is our move to our new premises at 35 Lavant Street, Petersfield. We’re grateful to Nigel and Robina Talbot-Ponsonby and to Stuart Barden and his team at Barden FM for hosting us in Langrish for so many years.
