A bittersweet period in one's life: the time when only the thesis stands between us and obtaining our degree, and when we can start spreading our wings outside the university walls in the world of work or higher education

As a current masters’ student working on my thesis, I would like to share my advice and tips with you, which can lead to a successful thesis and a more enjoyable process. As our professors teach us thoroughly, I won't go into research methodology and similar theoretical advice and tips. Instead, I will focus on practical insights based on my own experiences.

It is necessary to be aware of all deadlines, both for the proposal and the final submission of the thesis:

Deadlines help us to stay organized and effectively manage our time Thesis preparation is usually a lengthy process involving research, data collection, analysis, and writing Planning deadlines in advance makes it easier to complete the work on time, avoid last-minute rushes, and a better distribution of tasks.

01 Deadlines

Adhering to deadlines allows us to receive feedback and suggestions on our thesis in a timely manner Feedback from our professors, advisors, or other experts can help improve the quality and content of the paper

Meeting deadlines demonstrates our reliability and commitment to our work

It shows that we take our responsibilities seriously and are dedicated to delivering high-quality work.

02 Topic

In my opinion, it is crucial to choose a topic that genuinely interests us Just think about it: how agonizing is it to conduct research on a subject that doesn't engage us, where we don't find any joy? Personally, for my master's thesis, I chose a topic that I already had background knowledge in, which made the research process much easier

The more unique, unsolved, or underdeveloped the topic is, the better If a topic comes to mind, try to add a little twist to make it even more intriguing and professional in your thesis The quality of the paper can be significantly improved if the chosen topic is highly relevant Additionally, we can opt for a topic that will be beneficial to us in the future: perhaps our future employers might read or skim through it

03 Time Management

Although everyone has a different lifestyle and pace, time management is crucial in thesis writing In my opinion, it is practical to create a schedule allocating specific time slots for working on our thesis throughout the week Ideally, dedicating at least one hour every day to the thesis is highly recommended Of course, it's important to incorporate shorter breaks into the workflow Remember, effective time management is not just about quantity but also quality During our dedicated work sessions, it's important to minimize distractions and create a focused environment Turning off notifications on our devices, finding a quiet workspace, and using productivity techniques like the Pomodoro Technique (working in short bursts with timed breaks) can enhance concentration and productivity
