Support is growing for the creation of a Nature Reserve on the fields to the North of Sir John Moore Barracks. This would provide a green buffer area between any development and the Littleton Stud as well as a valuable amenity for our Ward. We are delighted that our MP, Steve Brine, is promoting this scheme with several of the decision makers.
City Council plans to create a wetland area on the land to the North of Church Street in Micheldever have been out for consultation. Diverting flowing water from the River Dever through the wetlands will remove nitrates and improve water quality. It should also provide new habitats for a variety of flora and fauna and reduce the risk of flooding. A planning application is expected soon.

The Council have announced that they are intending to sell a long lease on the old leisure centre site at River Park to the University of Southampton. It is expected that plans will soon be submitted for new buildings that will be used to expand the facilities of the Winchester School of Art. This may include exhibition and performance spaces that will be available to the public.
The City Council’s new Director of Place, Dawn Adey, has been given a guided tour of our Ward by the three of us. We showed her all the settlements, all the key natural treasures and the main areas of concern, so she can understand what is important to residents.
There remains considerable uncertainty over future Government funding for local authorities. The City Council is planning to raise most charges, including Council Tax in April, although these plans may change if more funding becomes available from Westminster.
