Highways England has launched a public consultation on the M3 Junction 9 improvement scheme, which runs until Thursday 8 July 2021. This is the second consultation on the scheme. Since the first consultation in 2019, there have been significant changes made to the scheme in response to comments and concerns that were raised. Notably, access to the A33 and Kings Worthy from Winnall is now separated from the access to the A34 following concerns about the need to cross two lanes over a short length of carriageway. The consultation documents and details of the public engagement can be found at www.highwaysengland.co.uk/m3junction9. All 3 of your City Councillors attended the local police Beat Surgery in June. Many local residents came to discuss local policing concerns with the beat officers, the new Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, and MP Steve Brine. Police action to deal with illegal gig racing on the A33 has been widely reported and residents were given strong assurances that such police action will continue. We also raised other issues, including speed control on Christmas Hill, South Wonston and on Overton Road, Micheldever Station.
Hampshire Highways are continuing with work to improve the flood prevention measures on Overton Road. This will mean that the road under the A303 will be closed to all traffic towards the end of August. Signs should give precise details of closures and diversions.
The Council’s new Sport and Leisure Park at Bar End is now open. Details of opening times, prices and membership schemes can be obtained from the operator at www.everyoneactive.com.
Parish Councils will now be holding meetings in person, although you need to check their websites for details of any restrictions or procedures for attendance. Their next meetings are on:

Wonston Parish Council – Wednesday 14th July at Victoria Hall, Sutton Scotney
South Wonston Parish Council – Monday 12th July at South Wonston Pavilion. All meetings start at 7.30pm. City Councillors attend all Parish Council meetings and are available for you to contact at any time.
