Based on data from World Health Organization, 4% (about 285million) of worldwide population of people are estimated to be visually impaired, which means one out of twenty people is estimated to be visually impaired. Globally, uncorrected refractive errors are the main cause of moderate and severe visual impairment. For this project, our team focuses on the demand of visually impaired user group. The products we designed solve daily life problem like cooking, walking down street, and shopping. These three areas are the directions we concerntrate on, In our team we have four people including me as an industrial designer, and other team members Derrick Johnson from Engineer, Alexis Meinhold from Visual Communication Design, and Trevor Thompson from Business.
Completedly blind Low vision
+ 39 million are blind and 246million people have low vision. Almost 16% of them are completely blind.
By doing researches and interviews, we found out it is extremely important to give them the confidence of being independent. However, their eyesight restrict their ablity. They need help on things like navigation and finding small objects. Based on the timeline, we found out the users need help the most on navigation, shopping and food preparation when cooking in the kitchen.
People who are visually impaired need to cook by themselves sometimes. It can be hard especially when they want to stir and fry food. Also, the food preparation process gives them a hard time espcially when they would like to take out food from a freezer.
People need navigation tool when they are in a unfamiliar environment, especially for people who needs visual aids. They feel uncomfortable when people are walking towards them without knowing people are approaching.
For people who are visually impaired, it may be difficult for them to shop (in grocery stores) by themselves. During the interview, we found out them have strong will of shopping themsleves. They have strong need of respect from others. They enjoy the feeling of being independent and would like to shop alone.

There is currently almost no way for those with visual impairments to differentiate products within a freezer due to standardized packaging and current freezer organization. The Eis Freezer resolves this problem through utilizing vending machine technology that differentiates the products for you, delivering whatever you want through either typing technology or voice recognition software.
+ Smartphone App allows users to check food information and give suggestions for cuisine recipes, which wll effectively reduce food waste.
These glasses solve a key problem for those with visual disabilities, being able to identify products while shopping. The Cue Glasses will solve this problem through their product identification and information transfer capabilities.
When people is walking towards user. The sensor receive the message.
The glasses will give haptic feedback to user. Also, it will give voice signal to user when needed.
The feedback tells user with visual impairment others are approaching.
Kart solves two key problems that those with visual impairments face in a store: mobility and safety. The cart is designed so that it can be pushed or pulled, the latter of which provides for much better maneuverability and safety enhancements. Currently, carts can only be pulled and there is no way for those with visual impairments to judge where they are going, with this product, they will be able to shop safely and efficiently.
+ The weighing scale at the bottom of Kart simplify the weighing process for fruits and meat, which also helps visually impaired cutomer shop more independently.
