Special Needs

Programs and facilities of the Parks, Recreation and Forestry department are available to all persons interested in making use of them. Special needs which require adaptations will be reviewed upon request.

Scholarships Available:

* If the fees are too high to fit your budget, talk to Kevin DeVries, Todd Cavanaugh or Jamie Henkel and arrangements will be made for your child’s participation.

** All scholarships MUST be set up at the Rec Center -you can set up your account at home, then stop in to show Notice of Action Letter from Social Services and we will set you up for a 50% scholarship for programs. Scholarships also apply to Aquatic Center memberships, but are not at the 25% level.

***If you set up a scholarship last year you must come in and set up another one for this year.

Weather Policy

Outdoor programs will be canceled if weather conditions create a potential hazard for participants. Such conditions include heavy rain, wet field conditions, tornado warnings, lightning, or excessive heat combined with high humidity. Palace Transit Can Help!

Buses are available for transportation to and from the Parks & Recreation programs. Price is $2.00 for a one-way Monday thru Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm and $3.00 one-way evenings and weekends. All rides must be scheduled by 4:00 pm the day before (Monday rides must be scheduled by Friday at 4:00 pm). Curb-to-curb service and wheelchair accessible. To make arrangements, call 995-8440.

Park & Rec Baseball will be structured differently this summer. In order to align with youth baseball statewide, we will be offering three levels including 8U, 10U & 12U.

The program will be under the direction of DWU Baseball Coach Charlie Dubanoski, his coaches and players.

8U BASEBALL:

Completed Kindergarten - 8 yrs as of January 1st. Skills, drills and scrimmages make this 7 weeks a fun intro to baseball. Each group will meet on Tuesdays & Thursdays for 1 hour each day between 9:00 am - Noon. Groups will meet at Cadwell Fields D, E, F, G. Teams will be formed prior to games beginning. Program runs June 6 - July 20. Players will need their own gloves. Uniform shirts will be provided.

Join DWU Coach Tommy Downs along with his players as they direct the instruction of the Summer Softball program. Girls will be classified into three age groups of 8U, 10U & 12U. The season will consist of four weeks of instruction, followed by 3 weeks of games. Equal teams will be formed prior to games beginning.

Under the guidance of Joan Lubben from Palace City Pedalers, riders will be introduced to the fun of biking single track trails. This program will reinforce biking safety & proper riding technique while exploring the numerous trails around Lake Mitchell. The program will run on Monday afternoons in July. MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM

The Mitchell Rec Center has been working to develop more usable space for our members, and we finally have it! The MPR is a bright, open area full of a huge variety of fitness equipment! This room houses 19 pieces of cardio equipment ranging from spin bikes to Nu-steps, from treadmills to ellipticals with recumbent bikes and water-rowing machines available as well! We have just added a stair-master to the room to complete the most versatile room in the area! Kettle-bells, medicine balls, dumbbells, a smith machine, various core equipment and a full paramount strength circuit is available as well!

Become a better athlete this summer! Adam Fosness and Thomas Gulledge hold multiple certifications to help athletes reach their goals. First-come, first served sites are available daily but not guaranteed.

Self-pay system is utilized for first-come, first-served. There is no manager on site, but campground hosts are available to assist campers.

CAMPGROUND SITES

Reservations are available but not required. We are currently taking online reservations for 2023 (online reservation fee is 4.95%). Reservations are accepted up to one week in advance; available sites within the week will be on first-come, first-served basis. All reservable sites that have not been reserved are available to campers who arrive without a reservation. The maximum allowable stay limit will depend on the next date for which the site has been reserved.

A family camping center overlooking Lake Mitchell with fishing, swimming, canoes, pedal boats, paddle boards, playground, hiking trail and a laundry facility.

DOG PARK

Bring your canine friend to the Mitchell Dog Park! The dog park is located on the south end of Cadwell Park and features a 2.3 acre area for large dogs and a .85 acre area for small dogs. Please clean up & be responsible for your pet.

DRY RUN CREEK BIKE PATH

Dry Run Creek Bike & Walking Path begins at Burr Street and ends at Minnesota Street. The Bike & Walking Path Committee is in the process of designing future improvements for Mitchell’s Bike Path System. Maps are available at the Park & Recreation Dept.

Mon., Tues., Thurs., from August 21 - September 28 at Cadwell Complex Cost: $58.58 — Grades 3 & 4 enjoy a fun introduction into football. Teams practice for three weeks and play games for three weeks. Contests at 7 on 7 with plenty of wide-open opportunities to show your skills. Volunteer coaches will be needed to guide the teams.

Tackle Football

Mon., Tues., Thurs., from August 14 - September 28 at Cadwell Complex Cost: $74.55 — Grades 5 & 6 take football to the next level as they put on the pads. Teams will prepare with skills, drills and team building. Four weeks of practice is culminated with games the final three weeks. Volunteer coaches will be needed to guide the teams.

Re-Tree Mitchell The Parks & Recreation Dept. offers a 100% reimbursement (up to $100) for the purchase of trees that are planted in or near the boulevard. Limit of 2 trees per year. Call the Parks & Recreation office for more details. How do I get my tree checked over? The Division does “tree checks” each Friday - any citizen who has a concern about a tree on a boulevard should call 995-8450 and ask for Angel.
