DoubleTree releases chocolate chip cookie recipe

Now, DoubleTree by Hilton is helping the world recreate its checkin experience by releasing the recipe for its famous chocolate chip cookies for the first time.

Learn how to protect your calls Drew Harwell The Washington Post Millions of people are turning for the first time to the video-call app Zoom as the coronavirus lockdowns upend their way of life. But some are also making mistakes that could leave their privacy and security at risk, and thousands of Zoom video calls have now been left publicly viewable on the open Web. Here’s how to protect your videos: 1. Do you need to record?

Zoom allows people to live-stream their meet-

ings and doesn’t store the content of those calls, according to its privacy policy. But a call “host,” who starts the meeting, can decide to record the call, either to save it to their own computers or upload it to Zoom’s servers. Participants on a call are notified through audio and video when a host decides to record; if you don’t want to be recorded, you can ask the host to stop recording or leave the call. If you’re a host, the easiest way to protect your videos is not to record them in the first place.

2. Consider renaming the file.

When Zoom saves a video to a host’s computer, it gives the recording a default file name that a stranger can easily predict and then search for through one of the free search engines that scans open Web directories and online file services. If you don’t want to give away that the file

was recorded via Zoom, consider using a random file name or calling it something unique.

3. Watch where you post it.

Zoom allows people to upload their recordings onto the popular online file sites run by Amazon, Dropbox and Google, as well as the video sites of YouTube and Vimeo. If you don’t want the file to be public, make sure

your accounts on those sites are set to private or protected by a password.

If someone attempts to find the file, the site will deny them access.

4. These other settings can help.

Zoom offers lots of ways to protect your calls from snoops and trolls, but many of the settings (which you can find here) can be confusing.

► Don’t publicly share your Zoom “Meeting ID.” Send it directly to the people you want on the call. ► Set a password for the meeting, then share that only with the right people. ► Make sure “screen sharing” is set to “Host Only.” That prevents other people on the call from abruptly blasting text or images onto the other participants’ screen — a favored tactic of “zoombombing” trolls. ► Use the “waiting room” feature. San Diego Comic-Con canceled because of coronavirus

By David Betancourt The Washington Post The coronavirus pandemic has forced the cancellation of San Diego Comic-Con for the first time in the event’s half-century history.

The announcement was made Friday on the Comic-Con website. The event has become a rite of summer for fans of comic book culture, attracting around 135,000 last year.

Those who had already purchased badges for

entry have the option to receive a full refund or have their tickets transferred to next year’s SDCC, which, for now, is scheduled to take place July 22-25, 2021.

“Continuous monitoring of health advisories and recent statements by the Governor of California have made it clear that it would not be safe to move forward with plans for this year,” the statement said.

SDCC has gone from its 1970 origins of primarily

catering to the bag-emand-board-em comicbook collecting crowd to becoming a major machine in the entertainment industry. Since the dawn of the current era of superhero cinema, fans could annually look forward to major SDCC announcements from Marvel Studios and DC Entertainment.

The two giants would save their biggest news and sneak-peek movie trailers for Saturdays in Comic-Con’s Hall H,

considered to be SDCC’s exclamation point.

Now that superheroes are part of binge-able shows, major streamers such as Netflix (during its brief union with Marvel) and Amazon (which distributes the raunchy “The Boys”) have used SDCC as a blowhorn to attract a growing fan base looking for more than just a trip to the movies.

Many of the year’s big Hollywood superhero moments have already

been postponed. Sony’s “Bloodshot” was the long-awaited emergence of Valiant Comics on the big screen. The movie debuted March 13 but was made available for on-demand purchase on March 24 after theaters across the country began closing. Marvel Studios’s “Black Widow,” scheduled for a May release, was moved to Nov 6. WB/ DC’s “Wonder Woman” sequel, “Wonder Woman 1984,” was pushed later in the summer, to

An epic work of popular fiction about, well, a global pandemic. You should not read this book if you are already freaked out about the current unpleasantness. If you are leaning into the pandemic genre, however, this book is absorbing.

Wendig does an excellent job with misdirection. Without revealing any spoilers, what you might think is the source of the pandemic at the start of the book is very different from what you think at the end. The most riveting passages are in the book’s second half, once the pandemic has begun to affect society in a serious way.
