St Emilion is renowned for its merlots, so leave time to explore.
The line also has an optional Let’s Go Golfing in Étretat experience on its Paris and Normandy itinerary. The 18-hole seaside course offers two nine-hole loops that take players to the cliff edge. Uniworld’s optional golf package includes an 18-hole game with a cart and balls, lunch and transfers.
How to book: An eight-day Brilliant Bordeaux cruise round-trip from Bordeaux costs from £2,998pp, departing on 1 June 2025. Golf package from £699pp.

A NOVEMBER ESCAPE ON
French & Italian Riviera
No better way to prepare for winter, or to escape from it, than to join a short November cruise from Rome to Barcelona, taking in a few headline ports along the way. by Andrew Maclear
Azamara’s supremely comfortable Quest provides the mode of transport and Rome, Florence, Monaco, Portoferraio, Genoa, Mahon and Barcelona the destinations. All cruises having Rome as their start or close use the Port of Civitavecchia, some sixty miles from the eternal city. Rarely mentioned other as stepping on & stepping off point, Civitavecchia is a small, engaging city and worth an overnight stay prior to sailing away.
Azamara’s mid-size ship is set across eleven decks, with a principal dining venue plus two speciality restaurants, Prime C and Aqualina. (A steak house and Italian venue respectively).
Add to this various bars, coffee stops, libraries, spa areas and decks – this ship feels spacious and uncrowded even when at full capacity. If seven days of fine dining, sea air and room service appeal to you –then this is all to hand. And if a little light walking and mooching around some laid back Mediterranean cities speaks to you – that’s all here as well. First stop is Livorno – from where Florence and Pisa are easily accessed. Florence, most especially, the ever seductive birthplace of the Renaissance. An almost mandatory steeping ashore point is Genoa and its
labyrinth of alleyways occupied by all manner of artisans, small shops and corner bars. Portoferraio provides the quintessential, picture perfect Italian port, easily circumnavigated in a few hours and peppered with innumerable café stops. Marseille is the big bustling, multicultural star of the French Riviera, and home to all manner of culinary experiences or, if simply in search of a gift –some rather
excellent soap. If money is no object, stop for lunch at the Café de Paris in Monaco or just keep walking, pick up a sandwich and watch the well-heeled residents vie for parking space in their Lamborghinis. Mahon, second largest of The Balearic Islands is another city easily navigable on foot; a blush of English influence still evident in its architecture and in the island’s most celebrated beverage – gin. Once all these destinations have been perused, then Barcelona will be on the horizon which in itself demands several days to even scratch the surface.
Azamara has a comprehensive tour package, from light walking to more robust day long excursions. Its culinary standards might exceed your expectations and staff and room service are brisk and courteous. The great cruise luxury is breakfast delivered to your room and, November weather permitting, can be taken on the balcony. If you´re fortunate with clear skies and balmy temperatures, then a mixture of ship board lounging and light sight-seeing will quickly absorb seven days. This combined with the congenial environment of this elegant ship will render the winter ahead tolerable and likely be calling you back for more Azamara in the spring.
Set sail with Atlas Ocean Voyages and embark on an unforgettable journey to a few explored destinations. From the moment you arrive, anticipation turns to awe as you discover breathtaking landscapes, taste new flavours, and connect with passionate locals eager to share their culture.
Aboard an intimate yacht, every moment is designed to bring you closer to the world’s most remarkable places, offering truly unique, immersive experiences.
