Vol. 09 No. 17

COUNCIL VOICES CONCERN WITH GREEN ENERGY ACT by Brad Holden Clearview Township joined Simcoe County and more than 30 other municipalities in offi cially questioning aspects of the Province’s proposed Green Energy Act in a resolution passed Monday night. The motion, written by Councillor Thom Paterson, came after a requested report from Planning Director Michael Wynia outlined implications of the proposed legislation for the municipality. While the report covered several positive aspects of Bill 150 – the establishment of a “right to connect” to the electricity grid for proponents of small-scale, renewable energy projects and a new provincial focus on conservation, for instance – it also referred to the planned removal of the municipal approvals process in regard to renewable energy generation facilities. (See “Council” on page 5)

108 Moves In Unison The Collingwood branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Canada held an “intensive” gathering in Creemore on Tuesday evening, the first time that such an event has been held here. More than 70 people from the Collingwood area and elsewhere in the province met at the Station on the Green for a potluck dinner and three hours of Tai Chi, raising money for the society in the process. For more information about practicing Taoist Tai Chi locally, call Laura Walton (at front right in the picture!) at 466-5011.

Mulmur Town Hall

Goodbye to an Old Landmark Fran Webster and Alex Hargrave were sad to see a Riverside Drive landmark disappear this week. The barn was built in the early 1900s by Fran’s grandfather F.E. Webster, the son of George Webster, who founded Websterville. George’s brother Edward, of course, founded Creemore, and Alex is directly descended from him. The barn, now owned by Ken Winters, was dismantled by a crew of Mennonites on Tuesday.

This Saturday’s installment of the Mono Mulmur Citizen’s Coalition’s Mulmur Town Hall Meeting series will feature presenters talking about three contentious issues: the Arbour Farms gravel pit, the Mulmur/Melancthon land acquisition and wind farms and the proposed Green Energy Act. Coffee is served at 9:30 am, discussions begin at 10 on Saturday, April 25 at the Mulmur Municipal Office. All are welcome.

Fishing season begins this Friday at midnight, and that means one of the Echo’s favourite community events will take place at the Dunedin Hall on Saturday, April 25 beginning at 7 am. The annual Dunedin Fisherman’s Breakfast and Bake Sale is always a sure sign of spring, with loyal volunteers cooking up a hearty traditional breakfast and the wonderful bakers of Dunedin offering their delectable wares in case you want to take home a treat for later. The event, which is a fundraiser for the Dunedin Hall, goes until 11 am.

Teddy Bears Fundraiser The Teddy Bears Picnic Daycare Centre will hold its second annual Spaghetti Supper on Wednesday, April 29. For $10 per adult and $5 per child, you get a great dinner and support a great service to our community at the same time. There are two sittings, one at 5 pm and one at 6 pm. To reserve a spot, call 466-2241.
