Vol. 09 No. 11

COUNCIL EYES SCI FOR LIBRARY Building Committee told to consider SCI as possible new site for Stayner branch a big role in Clearview Township’s new Strategic Plan, which looks to seek such situations to deliver services as efficiently and economically as possible. With the ARC nearing its conclusion and the Library Building Committee just getting started, there’s no guarantee Davidson’s motion will go anywhere, but for now, members of Clearview Council are unanimously behind it.

Sign Bylaw Amendment Council voted to amend its Sign Bylaw Monday night, to account for the many business signs (11 in Stayner alone) that may or may not have been erected on Township property since before the bylaw was enacted in 2005. The amendment requires the owners of these signs to enter into an agreement with the Township, requiring, among other things, that they maintain their signs in accordance with the bylaw; that the signs’ size, structure and form not be changed; that if they are, they will be removed; and that the owners of the signs accept all responsibility and liability for the signs and insure them accordingly.

Earth Hour Support Council passed a resolution in support of this year’s Earth Hour. The event takes place on Saturday, March 28 at 8:30 pm, when people the world over are asked to turn all power off in their homes for one hour. As they did last year, Clearview Township will use its website to advertise the event.

A Family Adventure Then 10-year-old Noah Bridson enjoyed making friends with a Maasai girl about her age in Tanzania’s Serengeti Plain last year, as part of her family’s 11-month adventure in Africa and Asia. Noah’s mother Mandy will give a talk about the trip on Friday, March 20. To read more see page 8.

Low Visibility, High Heart Rates The 2009 Haywood Canadian Nordic Ski Nationals got off to a foggy start at Highlands Nordic in Duntroon last Sunday, with these skiers slogging through the soft snow during the Team Sprint heats. The world-class event continues this weekend, with the Classic Sprint and the Long Distance Free on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Cars were lined up for at least a kilometre on both sides of the 10th Line last weekend; get there early for a good parking spot.

WIND IS A HOT ISSUE

Hometown Military Commander

In the last Mulmur Notebook 2 we said we would discuss M u l m u r ’s OPA 12, the regulations Mono Mulmur CITIZENS’ COALITION governing wind power in the Township. Since then the provincial government has introduced the Green Energy Act Bill 150. The Government hopes for third reading and passage of this bill by June. We can praise the objectives of Bill 150 and some of its provisions, but there are some provisions that must be changed. One deals with the Niagara Escarpment Plan, the other deals with the planning rights of local municipalities. (See “Green” on page 6) MULMUR NOTEBOOK

by Brad Holden In a move toward partnership that’s not been seen for a long time, Clearview Council voted Monday night to make sure the Stayner Library Building Committee explores the possibility of relocating the Stayner library branch to the Stayner Collegiate Institute campus. The motion, made by Councillor Shawn Davidson, comes as the Accommodation Review Committee (ARC) looking into the future of SCI, CCI, Elmvale District High School, Midland High School and Penetanguishene High School draws to a close. While no decision has been made yet, the committee’s proposal is to be presented at a public meeting at SCI at 5 pm on Monday, March 23. Part of the reason for Davidson’s motion is that the Minister of Education has clearly stated that partnerships to create community hubs are essential for future community development. An example of this is the new Erin District High School, a strongly communitybased school of approximately 570 students housed in the new Erin Centre 2000. Also housed in the centre are a theatre/cinema, doctors’ offices, a nursery school, a seniors’ room, an arena, a community centre, and a combined school/public library, all under one roof. Clearview Economic Development chair Doug Mills has been pushing the integration concept for weeks, both at ARC meetings and Council meetings. Partnership opportunities also play
