Welcome to the Township of Clearview’s Fall and Winter 2022-2023 Activity Guide!
There have been many tough decisions made regarding the closure of municipal facilities and programming – and staff and council alike have agonized over these decisions. We are truly looking forward to more events and get togethers as we navigate through what we all hope to be the final wave of this pandemic. Now more than ever we need to come together, safely and responsibly as a community and be very proud of the sacrifices we’ve made in keeping our community safe. The activity guide will keep you informed as to what’s happening throughout the Fall and Winter of 2022 and into early 2023 with regards to recreational programming and upcoming events. I encourage you to check out the many events and get outdoors to experience what Clearview has to offer. Don’t forget to visit our many restaurants and businesses, while you are out and about in our wonderful community! For the most up to date resources please check out our website at www.clearview.ca or by following us on Twitter @Clearview_twp or on social media at DiscoverClearview. On behalf of Clearview staff, management and Council we look forward to the many upcoming events that mark the change of the seasons! Be well, be safe and enjoy your day in Clearview!

SENIOR WISH ASSOCIATION
• FALL & WINTER 2022/23 • 23
The Senior Wish Association was spearheaded by Barb Richards, a well-known Business Woman in our area when she encountered several seniors alone and isolated especially at Christmas and that’s where Christmas Wish moved in. The first year, 2011, we had only 275 Seniors on our books and last year it has grown to over 3000 so we are becoming well known within Simcoe County. The Senior Wish Association has three main areas that it focuses on. The Christmas Wish Program, Granting Wishes and our Memory Book Program, however, it does carry on all year long, not just at Christmas but with Valentine Cards, Easter and Mother’s Day Cards and acts of kindness. LIME KILN SIDE TRAIL
First built at the edge of the village (at George and Mary streets) and constructed with trees harvested locally, this is the last original log house in Creemore. Its first residents were James & Abigail Scarrow and their ten children. Early in the 20th century, Joseph & Emily Veitch made it their family home, followed by their daughter, Hazel (Veitch) Shaw. Its last resident, Marlyn Shaw, lived in it alone for many years. Over time, the cabin’s exterior was radically altered, and its interior changed, but the basic structure remained. Early in this century, community volunteers raised funds to save the building and to reconstruct it centrally in the village on vacant former railway land. Owned by Clearview Township, the cabin is financially supported and administered by volunteers. It serves as a venue for cultural exhibits and programs.

“History Hosts” welcome visitors on Saturday mornings from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving, NORTH AMERICA’S SMALLEST JAIL – 1892 Under the direction of the village Constable, this little “lock-up” served for half a century as a secure place to jail lawbreakers. For offences like drunkenness or disturbing the peace, inmates were lodged here over night. Those charged with more serious crimes were held here until transported to the County Sheriff in Barrie. The lock-up not only jailed lawbreakers, it occasionally provided social service. From its earliest years – and especially in the 1930s Depression – “tramps” found short-term shelter here and were fed at village expense. In the 1940s, new provincial police regulations closed this local lock-up. In the 1960s it re-opened as a tourist attraction, promoted as “North America’s Smallest Jail.” Although other communities may contest the claim, Creemore continues to affirm its title as a village with “a big heart and the smallest jail.” From May through October, the little lock-up is open daily to the public.

STAYNER & DISTRICT KINSMEN CLUB
Clearview EcoPark & Community Garden: Help grow our community, one plant at a time! We are looking for volunteers to maintain the community garden, weeding/watering, organize special events and attend the farmers’ market. Become a friend of the EcoPark! Contact Erica Dewey, EcoPark Assistant at edewey@ clearview.ca
LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL is the largest, most recognized service club in the world. The Stayner Lions Club has had a presence in this community for over 66 years. We are a busy club of men & women with a common goal - To serve. At the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, we supplied the nursing home and retirement home staff, with coffee and treats from Tim Hortons. Just a small way to say thank you for their efforts during that difficult time. We hold an annual Mustang draw, suppers, pancake breakfasts, operate the concession booth at the arena and do park and roadside cleanup. Through our fundraising efforts, we can donate to camps for children with cancer, diabetes, kidney disease, vision loss and hearing loss. Locally, we support youth organizations and are always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Our Clearview community is always there to support our fundraising events! Thank you! If you are interested in becoming a member of the Stayner Lions Club, or would just like more information, call Sandra at 705-428-6316

The only all Canadian service club. Funds are raised through a variety of community events which support local projects such as sports team, community groups and the local food bank. Annual events like the Kinsmen Duck Races in May and the Stayner Santa Claus Parade raise money and food for the community. The newly constructed Kinsmen Pavilion was officially opened in 2022 at the Centennial Park on Brock Street, Stayner.
