Greetings from the Mayor On behalf of the Township of Clearview, I’m happy to present the 2015 / 2016 Fall & Winter Activity Guide highlighting this year’s planned activities for Clearview. As you read through this guide, you will notice that our community is very active. Recreation is a great way to stay healthy and active, and it is also a fun way to connect with other people. As a young community with deep roots that values events and activities; Clearview has a host of recreational opportunities for residents to enjoy. This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to participate in recreation during the fall and winter months. I invite everyone to use this guide not only to find activities that interest you and your family, but also as a way to make the most of what Clearview has to offer by getting involved in your community. We are proud of our team which includes many volunteers who work hard to ensure that we offer an energized community to live in. I encourage you to stay informed about what is happening in Clearview Township by checking out our website at clearview.ca as well as following us on Twitter @ Clearview_twp. This Fall and Winter, treat yourself to an active and healthy lifestyle!

Christopher Vanderkruys

Meet the PARC Project! In the early spring of 2013 Clearview Township in Partnership with the Clearview Community Garden, Stayner Garden Club, Stayner Chamber of Commerce, The Clearview Foodbank, and the Stayner Door Youth Centre received a grant for $315,800 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to be used over a 4 year period to help create a collaborative relationship between the groups and aid in sharing resources to improve the overall quality of the groups while encouraging local youth to become involved in their community and building tourism in the area. The project was given the name the PARC Project standing for Partnering, Advancing, Resourcing and Community. Over the summers of 2013, 2014, and 2015 post-secondary students hired through the grant have been working to meet the goals of the grant and see Clearview put on the local tourism maps and added to the list of tourism destinations. To aid in meeting these goals two of the students hired, Calla Sampson our Tourism Assistant and Kennedy Robinson our Graphics and Marketing Assistant worked with The Creemore Echo to put this guide together. Kennedy did an amazing job designing the front and back covers while Calla worked to hunt down all of the content to include and put it in a coherent order. www.clearview.ca • Fall 2015/Winter 2016 • 3

Curling with a Stick It’s common to see curling stones now being delivered from an upright position using a stick that’s slipped over the stone’s handle. This allows participation by people who may have some physical limitation or those deciding to take up curling later in life. Using the stick removes the need to master the more familiar slide delivery. For additional information on curling with a stick visit www.stickcurling.ca.

The Stayner Curling Club is available to rent year-round. For more information or to book the facility, call Ken Russwurm at 705-428-2875

Snowmobiling

www.ofsc.on.ca

Get out and enjoy winter and the trails that Clearview Township has to offer! There are thousands of snowmobilers in Ontario and one of Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club’s many trails crisscrossing the township. Don’t forget that trail users are required to display a valid snowmobile permit that entitles you to enter and travel any open OFSC Prescribed Trail at any time during the winter as often as you wish.

Where do my permit dollars go?

Permits generate the revenues OFSC needs to maintain snowmobile trails and buy groomers. They’re the only source of funding for trail operations. To ensure that your money goes to the OFSC district you ride most, it is important to buy your permit from a club in that district.

Where can I purchase my permit?

Permits are available at J&R Cycle, JT Snowmobile Repair, as well as numerous outlets in Stayner and New Lowell and surrounding areas. Seasonal Permit: $180 before November 1st (online only) $210 before December 1st $260 after December 1st 3 day permit: $75 7 day permit: $140 Classic Permit: $140 before December 1st (must be model year 1999 or older) $170 after December 1st (must be model year 1999 or older)

Top 5 Things to Do This Winter! Be brave and go outside when it’s snapping cold out!

You would not believe how beautiful the snow is when the temperatures drop below minus 25. You will see the trees sparkle, the snow will crunch beneath your boots, and that hot chocolate waiting inside will taste oh so good when you get back indoors.

Attend Winterama in New Lowell!

This classic event is never a disappointment and a true taste of small town spirit. The residents of New Lowell and area are proud of their little show on snow and would love to see you this year.

Go snowmobiling with the entire family!

With many trails crossing through Clearview this is a classic hobby for residents. Bundle the little ones up, convince Grandma and Grandpa it’s not that cold out, and go out for the day. You will not regret having a day together outdoors.

Take the kids tobogganing!

Peel them away from the TV and show them how much fun you can have sliding down a hill a “million” miles an hour well using every muscle you have to stay on the sled. You will come inside with your sides hurting from laughing and the kids will be exhausted come sunset giving you and the special someone time to relax with peace and quiet.

Start a wilderness journal!

Many people miss the ways their backyard changes over the winter months. Grab a small notebook and well enjoying you morning coffee write 3 things you can see in your backyard. Winter becomes less of a burden on us when we can recognize the beauty it holds just out our back doors.
