Hospital COVID protocols have changed Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH) has made changes to its Pandemic Visitor policy introducing less restrictive measures, in relation to the loosening of provincial restrictions and a significant decrease in COVID-19 infections in the community. Effective Tuesday, July 5 visitors to CGMH are able to ‘self-screen’ for symptoms of COVID-19. This is a change from Active screening, where visitors are posed a series of questions about their own health or possible exposure to COVID-19 prior to entering, to Passive screening, where visitors are asked to make that determination for themselves. Visitors who fail selfscreening are asked not to enter the hospital. Pandemic Support Assistants will remain at the front of the hospital
from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. for a period of transition, to help visitors understand the new process and answer questions. Additionally, CGMH has aligned its visitor vaccination policy with that of many other hospitals. While the hospital strongly encourages vaccinations, proof is no longer required as a condition of entry for visitors. Under CGMH’s Pandemic Visitor policy, all inpatients and outpatients attending clinics or the emergency department, may have one visitor at a time with the exception of patients at end of life, OB/childbirth, paediatric, and critical illness in the ED/ICU, who may have two visitors, based on room capacity. Some restrictions may be applied to support infection control
practices and patient care needs. In waiting rooms, visitors are to maintain two meters of space, where possible. If not possible, visitors are to maintain a minimum of one vacant seat of physical distance between groups. If the waiting room is very busy, visitors may be asked to wait outside the hospital until the patient is moved into the emergency room or outpatient clinic area. Universal masking remains in place throughout the hospital and visitors are to keep their hospital issued mask on at all times in patient rooms. No eating or drinking is permitted for visitors in patient rooms. Additionally, the food services area and cafeteria seating remains closed to the public at this time.
The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is noticing an increase in agricultural trespassing in Dufferin County, culminating in a serious instance being shared on social media. On the Canada long weekend there were two occurrences of people stopping on the side of Highway 10 in Melancthon Township and entering a Canola field to take photos. While Canola is beautiful at this time of year, it is a crop. It is a large part of plantbased diets and a source of income for our farmers. The potential damage to this crop is valued at $2000 if only one acre is damaged. It will increase if there was a larger area affected. Fields containing crops are not required to have fences or signage to deter people from entering, as stated in the Trespass to Property Act. Therefore, entering a field, whether it is on foot or with an off-road vehicle, is trespassing. If a person damages crops, then a criminal charge of Mischief could be considered by a responding police officer. Dufferin OPP asks that if you see this happening, please call 1-888310-1122. If you have information about suspected unlawful activity contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8228477 to remain anonymous.
Power Outage
A single vehicle accident last week left many Clearview residents without power for several hours. Huronia West OPP report that shortly after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29th a diesel pickup truck driven by Dean Tyson of Stayner was attempting to pass a garbage truck on County Road 42 near the 21/22 Sideroad of Nottawasaga. The driver lost control on wet pavement and left the roadway, striking a hydro pole. Hydro crews were dispatched to the scene to replace the damaged pole. The resulting power outage left 3,843 Hydro One customers without power from 11 a.m. until shortly after 3 p.m. OPP say no charges have been laid.
