School reno goes to public meeting by Trina Berlo A few written comments and one oral presentation was submitted as part of a public meeting Wednesday regarding the proposed redevelopment of the old school annex at 35 Caroline St. W. The proposal by Fennelwood Corp is to convert the existing school building into 11 condominium units and build four single-detached residential lots on the 1.8 acre property. The condo units will range in size from about 700-2,800 square feet, and will have one to three bedrooms. The purpose of the public meeting was to hear comments on the proposed re-zoning from an institutional zone to allow for low- and high-density residential, including exceptions relating to setbacks. Nine written comments for and against, included concerns about increased density and traffic impacting the peace and enjoyment of their neighbourhood. There is concern that

The front yard of the building will
become landscaped open space and parking would be around the back, with two parking spaces for each unit. Driveway access would be on the east side of the building. Community feedback included concerns about the proposed covered (See “Restoration” on page 3)
Climate motion passes unanimously by Trina Berlo Clearview council has unanimously supported the climate declaration tabled Monday by Councillor Doug McKechnie. The term 'climate emergency' was downgraded to 'climate crisis' at the suggestion of Deputy Mayor Barry Burton. The motion prompts staff to bring back a report to include potential membership in the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Partners for Climate Protection, the development of a Climate Action Plan, potential funding sources and the creation of a Climate Action Committee. “Council, I ask you to show leadership and approve this motion,” said McKechnie. “We have a civic and moral duty that we owe our children and grandchildren to leave our environment
better so that they won’t have to shoulder the financial burdens of dealing with our failure to act. This will be our positive legacy for the future.” Councillor Thom Paterson was absent but McKechnie read his comment aloud, “I support the intent of the resolution and am not too concerned whether we call it an emergency, a crisis, an existential threat, or a major defining municipal challenge, as long as we acknowledge that we are facing ever increasing negative impacts that will alter economic development, lead to financially unsustainable growth and most concerning impose health and security harms to our community that must be addressed,” he wrote. “We are in the front lines of governmentprovided infrastructure and services; from roads and bridges to waste-water,
safe water and flood protection that contribute to keeping our residents healthy and safe. I ask my council colleagues to support the resolution before us tonight.” “We definitely should be supporting this,” said Burton adding that Clearview is part of the Niagara Escarpment, a designated world biosphere, for which he is a commission member. It was noted that council members had received a lot of community support for the motion. While other municipalities have staff dedicated to climate related endeavours, McKechnie is confident that Clearview can draw upon its enthusiastic and knowledgable volunteer base, noting that the offers to help are already pouring in. No-parking zone approved for Con 10 A bylaw was passed Monday bring into effect a no-parking zone on Concession 10 Nottawasaga. The zone goes from County Road 124 to a point 175 metres north on the east side of the road, and from County Road 124 to a point 50 metres north on the west side. Clearview council first addressed congestion at the intersection in November when a complaint was received because it was impassable with large farm equipment. Concession 10 has become a popular parking area for people who rock climb in the area, and some other outdoor enthusiasts. “The issue with parking arises when motorists park on both the east and west sides of the road making the road too narrow to permit two-way travel and large farm equipment to pass,” reported staff.
