Workplace accident claims life of 28-year-old by Trina Berlo A worksite accident has claimed the life of Amandeep Singh, 28, of Brampton. Emergency crews responded to a construction site in Edenvale just before 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 12. Huronia West OPP received a report of an unresponsive male at a worksite on Highway 26, near Sideroad 12 and 13, in Clearview Township. The initial investigation revealed that a dump truck had tipped over trapping the male underneath.

The male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Ontario Ministry of Labour (MOL) and the Federal Department of Labour were notified. The Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and OPP Forensic Identification Unit (FIS) are assisting with the investigation. A Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development spokesperson said five requirements have been issued but could not give specifics because the investigation in ongoing.

Clearview man charged with arson following house fire

by Trina Berlo As a result of a joint investigation between the Huronia West OPP Crime Unit and the Office of the Fire Marshal an arrest was made in connection with a house fire in Clearview Township. Emergency crews were called to a residential fire on the 6th Concession of Nottawasaga, Clearview Township, just before noon on Feb. 9. Fire Chief Roree Payment tweeted on the day that crews fought a basement fire and that one occupant was transported to hospital in stable condition. Two residents who were in the home at the time of the fire had escaped prior to the arrival of emergency services and were not injured. The damage to the residence is estimated at $300,000. The province has announced Ontario will lift proof of vaccination requirements for all settings as of March 1. Gardner said the province is heading in the right direction with a downward trend in cases but people need to be aware and decide for themselves what risks they want to take.
