Ministry request puts road project in limbo by Trina Berlo A hearing with regards to the proposed reconstruction of a Clearview Sideroad relating to the closure of County Road 91 has been adjourned indefinitely after the classification of the project under the Environmental Assessment (EA) Act came into question. In what was a surprise move to parties, the Environmental Assessment Branch of the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has reached out to the municipality asking for information regarding estimated project costs and traffic study data to justify the classification of the 26/27 Sideroad Nottawasaga reconstruction project, near Duntroon. “Ministry staff were subsequently provided additional information (See “Doubt” on page 8)

The classification of the reconstruction of 26/27 Sideroad is now being questioned by a branch of the ministry causing a hearing to be delayed. The scheduling bump is something opponents have been lobbying for.

Manhunt results in two arrests by Trina Berlo A woman involved in a crash last week that resulted in a police pursuit west of Creemore is believed to still be at large. Police say the investigation is ongoing and are not able to provide any updates on the Oct. 27 crash that led to a large police presence in a rural area off County Road 9 involving a helicopter, tactical and canine units. The community was abuzz with information about the manhunt. The involved vehicle stopped in at Jug City in Creemore at 10:50 a.m. that day. Owner Helen Chung said two men stopped in to the store to buy food and drinks. Coming in and out of the store, they spent about 20-25 minutes shopping. Chung said they were suspicious characters and one had a cut on his face. Feeling scared and nervous by their presence, Chung was grateful that a customer stayed in the store the whole time until they

left, spending another 10 minutes in the parking lot before driving away. The involved stolen vehicle had been used in an armed robbery the evening prior but police will not release any information surrounding the robbery or the theft of the vehicle. It is believed the vehicle went off the road just after 11:30 a.m. and three occupants, two men and a woman, fled the collision scene on foot and ran into a wooded area. The two men were located and arrested but it is believed that the woman made her way through the woods to Creemore where she stopped in at Pizza Perfect to ask for food. Owner Meg Gaudreault said she had no idea the woman was part of a manhunt and that she was being quite aggressive when she showed up at about 4 p.m. Gaudreault told The Echo that the woman was swearing and said she was tired because she had been lost in the woods, and that she had to get back

to Collingwood. She said the woman was being very belligerent, and wasn’t wearing a mask, so she was asked to leave. Gaudreault then waved down a police officer and told them about the encounter. Police have released the names of the two men charged in the incident. Kenneth Currie, 31, of Collingwood was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of cocaine, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order, breach of probation, and fail to remain at the scene of a collision. Noah Elkerton, 34, of Brampton was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, and possession of cocaine. Both are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Dec. 14.
