Simcoe-Grey re-elects Terry Dowdall, Conservative MP by Trina Berlo Simcoe-Grey’s incumbent Terry Dowdall emerged victorious from Monday’s federal election with a clear mandate, getting 47 per cent of the vote. The Conservative MP said despite his own victory, it was a bittersweet night because the Conservatives weren’t able to get ahead of the Liberals and they lost some seats. Dowdall gathered with supporters and volunteers at a restaurant in Collingwood to watch the results come in. Dowdall said the national result is a disappointment. “We’re looking at the exact same numbers for the parties, pretty much, prior to this election. To go through all of this, spend all that money,” Dowdall told The Echo. “I’m disappointed and I’m actually embarrassed that the government spent $612 million basically for no reason when the seat count is staying the same – and there was no time at all that there would have been a confidence vote.” Dowdall said he is pleased with Conservative leader Erin O’Toole’s performance during the campaign, raising his profile, and that the platform resonated with voters. Dowdall said he would support O’Toole remaining

leader of the party, but Dowdall said he hopes his popularity won’t be tested again at the ballot box for a while. “Especially now, with Covid, I think we should just find a way to govern and move the country forward so we can get back to a somewhat normal lifestyle,” said Dowdall. He said he heard during the campaign that a lot of people are

frustrated. When asked to comment on the increased support for the PPC, Dowdall said his party’s polling shows that of that shift, 40 per cent of PPC support was drawn from Conservative voters. Proof of vaccination policy in effect at some Clearview facilities C l e a r v i e w To w n s h i p h a s implemented proof of vaccination policies at some of its facilities. Following direction from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and all levels of government to ensure the safety and well-being of the community, those attending certain township facilities will be required to show digital or printed proof of full vaccination at least 14 days prior, along with an identifying document showing name and date of birth or providing confirmation of a medical exemption before entering facilities including arenas, community halls

and the youth centre. “Your kindness and patience are appreciated as we work together through this latest change in pandemic protocols. Clearview’s goal is to abide by the provincial regulations and keep everyone as safe as possible,” said township staff. The Stayner Arena opened on Sept. 22, and the Creemore Arena will reopen on Oct. 12. Township staff have said youth between the ages of 12 and 18 will be exempt from the vaccination requirement actively participating in an organized sport at the arenas,

but will be required to show proof of vaccination while at the facility as a spectator. Otherwise, all arena patrons, players, spectators, and volunteers must be fully vaccinated. All youth 12 and older must be fully vaccinated to visit the Clearview Youth Centre. Unvaccinated youth will be able to enter the front area of the Clearview Youth Centre shortterm (up to 15 minutes) to request services or support from Clearview Township staff. The Youth Centre will continue to offer free at-home activity kits for those youth who can not attend the facility.

Clearview’s community halls are set to begin re-opening in October and will have similar restrictions in place. Those who may not have access to a computer, printer, or internet can print their vaccine receipt at any branch of the Clearview Public Library. Proof of vaccination is not required to access the library. Visit www.clearview.library.on.ca for hours of operation. For further details, including a list of accepted receipts, identifying documents, and medical exemption requirements view the policy online at www.discoverclearview.ca.
