Nottawasaga and Creemore Public School (NCPS) students held their traditional Grade 8 graduation parade Monday prior to a video ceremony. Staff was at the school to congratulate students and pass out "grad bags" before the parade headed off down the main street and to the nursing home. For more photos of the grads, see page 6-7.

Council composition goes to a vote by Trina Berlo A public meeting was held June 28 regarding the future structure of Clearview council. Council floated two options for consideration. Option 1: A five-ward structure (seven-member council): five councillors, a deputy mayor and mayor; and Option 2: Maintain the current ward structure (nine-member council): seven councillors, a deputy mayor and mayor. No members of the public appeared to make comments during the virtual meeting but four letters were received, all in favour of Option 1.

“Simply put, a streamlined smaller council is a more efficient council,” wrote Keith Carter. “For the population and area involved a smaller council truly does make sense. As it is some councillors have a very small area and density and could easily be covered by the remaining council members. Yes, I realize it will mean an area does not have 'personal' representation but I have no doubt the councillor covering will do a fine job. There will also be a small cost saving but any saving is a plus. The present size of council has never made sense to me.” An earlier survey, which informed

the two options presented at the public meeting, indicated that respondents were pretty much split down the middle on keeping the current ninemember council composition of seven councillors plus a mayor and deputy mayor, versus eliminating two council seats, but 76 per cent said they prefer the ward system. The public still has time to comment before council takes a vote on July 12. Anyone who wishes to voice their preference is encouraged to get in touch with their ward councillor or e-mail all councillors at council@ clearview.ca.

The campaign for Stella Ambler, Simcoe-Grey MPP hopeful has launched a petition demanding that the PC Party of Ontario immediately reinstate the right of the membership of the local PC association to elect its candidate for the next Ontario election, and, as soon as possible, hold an open, public and democratic Nomination Convention for this riding, as required by the PC Party of Ontario Constitution. To the surprise of local PC Party of Ontario members, it was announced June 3 that there would be no open, public and democratic nomination convention held for the riding of Simcoe-Grey but that instead, a candidate would be “appointed,” contrary to the principles of democracy and in violation of its own constitution, said Ambler. Collingwood Mayor Brian Saunderson has been named candidate for the seat being vacated by outgoing MPP Jim Wilson. “There’s time to fix this, to correct this injustice,” wrote Ambler to supporters. “Provincial Election Day is a full 11 months away. (Only three weeks are needed for a properly constituted nomination process.) I hope you’ll join me in demanding an open, public and democratic nomination vote here in Simcoe-Grey.” The petition is posted at www. stellaambler.com/petition.

Accessible swings approved for Clearview parks Council has approved the purchase of four accessible swings for Clearview parks, as per a recommendation from the Clearview Accessibility Advisory Committee. Parks staff asked for the equipment in response to requests from the community to provide accessible swings for children. The total cost of four swings with accessible seats is $7,164 to be funded from the accessibility improvements reserve. They will be installed at parks in Creemore, Stayner, New Lowell and Nottawa.
