Samantha Martin and Delta Sugar took to the stage August 9. The concert on Mill Street was part of the Creemore Nights events hosted weekly by the Creemore BIA. This Friday there is a Hoedown planned with live music and called dances starting promptly at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. The final event is a Jeep Jamboree on August 23.

Garbage pickup delays, help requested Simcoe County’s waste collection contractor, Waste Connections, continues to experience challenges with staffing due to labour shortages, drivers reaching their maximum legally permitted hours to operate, and increased summer waste volumes. According to information on the Simcoe website these issues are compounded by the heat and humidity and the ongoing challenges are leading to service delays across the county. Simcoe is bringing in additional resources from other waste collection

contractors from across the province to address these service issues. Residents may see a different collection vehicle picking up materials during August and into September. The additional resources aim to alleviate the service impacts, however this strategy may not result in an immediate solution and the county has a list of suggestions for residents to help them manage the situation until full service resumes. Materials should be set out at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day and left until 8 p.m. as routes are being adjusted.

There will be collection of garbage and green bin organics in order to reduce odours. Crews may likely return the next day for collection of garbage and organics if missed. Further interruptions to recycling collection should be expected. When recycling is not picked up, bring materials in from the curb for double collection on your next regularly scheduled day. Additional collection crews may be sent out, including Saturdays, as (See “E-waste” on page 3)

by Bonnie MacPherson Curious residents crowded Station on the Green Saturday afternoon for a first glimpse at concept drawings for the proposed Creemore Village Green. Jennifer Nagai, Principal Landscape Architect from PFS Studio, unveiled two options for redevelopment of the TD Bank land and adjacent Horticultural Park. Both are intended to honour the agricultural and railroad roots of the Creemore area while providing an active hub for community activities and linking open spaces including the cenotaph, log cabin and the jail to Mill Street. Both designs feature a roughly diagonal “spine” running from Mill Street to Station on the Green, echoing the path of the rail line which once ran through the area. Each design includes an outdoor stage in the space currently occupied by the TD Bank building. Option A has the stage butting up against Mill Street and includes a large hardscaped courtyard in front of the stage while Option B features the stage at an angle to the street, with a much smaller courtyard and multiple raised plantings to create small ‘garden rooms’. The large courtyard in Option A was presented as a potential venue for the farmers’ market currently housed in the Station on the Green parking lot. Members of the public were invited to comment on the concept drawings and make suggestions for consideration in formulating the final design which will be presented at a September 22 meeting. One recurrent question was about the choice of material for hardscaped areas with concern that it should not look like a large parking lot. There was little enthusiasm for the idea of relocating the farmers’ market and concern was expressed about the elimination of handicapped parking spaces at the entrance to Station on the Green. While the design firm touted the (See “Foundation” on page 7)
