Roxodus Music Fest gets council approval by Trina Berlo Clearview council has paved the way for Roxodus Music Fest to go ahead. By approving a special event agreement and a temporary use zoning, council has given the goahead for organizers, even though some permits and required documents were still outstanding at the time. The approvals were voted on at a special meeting held Wednesday afternoon, in the final hours that would still allow for an appeal. Doug McKechnie was the only councillor to oppose both motions, saying there is too much of a downside and the concert – even though it is being held at Edenvale Aerodrome – is not an aviation related event. “I cannot support this at all,” he said. “We stand to lose a lot as a community. There will be very little economic benefit…” But it was Connie Leishman, the councillor for the ward, who had the toughest decision. She voted against the agreement but when it came time to vote for the zoning, she agreed to the option tabled (to permit one event in 2019 and one event in 2020, both with a maximum of five days). “This has been tough… It has

Sam Roberts Band was the surprise performer at The New Farm's Farms for Change on June 15. Although this year's total has not been tallied, over 10 years the event has raised more than $1 million for Community Food Centres Canada, The Stop and Regent Park Community Food Centres and local food banks. About 1,000 people make the event a success – including attendees, volunteers and the many chefs from 15 restaurants and other food providers.

Ruff Mudders run this weekend Abernant Vet Services is hosting the Ruff Mudder canine obstacle course this weekend, June 22-23. Take on a five-kilometre course for dogs and their owners over, under and around more than 80 obstacles through muddy forest and fields. The first heats start at 9 a.m. on Saturday and last heat leaves at 3 p.m. on Sunday. There will also be an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest Doga Class (yoga with dogs) at noon on June 23. Abernant Vet Services is located at 6725 Highway 26, Stayner. Digital art award open The BMFA's Living Water Digital Art and Technology Award (DATA) is open for submissions. DATA is for emerging digital artists submitting either still images or short videos.
