Warm clothes needed for homeless St. Luke’s Anglican Church is organizing a clothing drive for the David Busby Centre in Barrie, which serves marginalized and homeless people throughout Simcoe County. From Nov. 2-23 people are asked to drop off specific items at The Creemore Echo office, located at 3 Caroline St. W. The centre is in need of under garments, long johns, hats, mittens and hand warmers, but most of all socks. They can never have too many socks. They have just had a jacket drive so coats are not needed at this time.

Mandy shared favourite things at celebration of life by Trina Berlo A celebration of life for Mandy ClarkeBridson, held at Kimbercote Oct. 27, was equal parts music, stories and food, all of her favourite things incorporated into a service she had planned herself for the most part. A joyful, zany, adventurous spirit with a desire to help those who needed it, Mandy had the large crowd singing This Little Light Of Mine between tributes from family and close friends, poetry, a slide show and live performances of My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion and Imagine by John Lennon. Although there were tears shed, Mandy made sure there was laughter, too.

Bells will ring out across nation by Trina Berlo Bells will ring out this Remembrance Day to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War armistice. A century ago, bells rang out to celebrate the end of the war, on the 11th hour of the 11th day. Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command has asked that Legions across Canada help replicate the act this year for its Bells of Peace initiative. Creemore Legion is participating, working with the congregations of St. Luke’s Anglican Church and St. John’s United Church. It is especially meaningful, said Jim Henderson of the Creemore Legion, because the bells at both churches were rung at the time of the armistice. The community is invited to attend the ringing of the bells at dusk on Nov. 11 when citizens will take turns ringing the bells as part of a wave across the country and the world. The sound of Amazing Grace will be heard in the distance, as piper Tim Armour plays in the field between the two churches. For the first ring, the honour goes to veterans John Knappet, who has been asked to pull the rope at St. Luke’s, and Ken Thornton, who

Steve and daughter Noa. On Sept. 17, at the age of 48, Mandy lost her battle with cancer, but fight she did. When she found out that treatment options had run out in Canada, the Bridsons heading south to Arizona and later to Mexico in search of alternative treatment. All the while, her supporters held community fundraisers and donated to online crowd-funding campaigns to help ease the financial burden of international healthcare. Mandy cared for children in her own community and around the world. She was a beloved elementary (See “Scholarship” on page 3)

Formenton scores first NHL goal Alex Formenton scored his first NHL goal Oct. 30. It was the only goal by the Ottawa Senators in a grizzly 5-1 loss against the Arizona Coyotes. Formenton, 19, is a member of Creemore’s Robertson clan, the grandson of Donna Robertson. According to the Senators, Formenton set up in the circle and redirected Chris Wideman’s shot past Antti Raanta to notch his first career goal.
