Creemore TD bank branch to close by Trina Berlo Many members of the community are angered by news this week that the Creemore branch of TD Canada Trust is closing. Early this week signs were posted in the branch and customer letters arrived by mail informing people of the “move”. “I’m writing to let you know that your branch located at 181 Mill St., in Creemore will be moving to 7267 Highway 26 in Stayner,” writes district vice president Tara Clarke. “We regret any inconvenience that the distance to this branch may cause you.” The letter encouraging people to utilize online services and telephone banking goes on to say, “Rest assured that this move will be smooth (See “TD” on page 3)

Spooky school Halloween Haunt is coming up Friday, Oct. 27 at Stayner Collegiate Institute, when the halls of the school are turned into a haunted house from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission: $2 per student or $5 per family.

Upscale re-sale shop supports church outreach by Trina Berlo Stylist and designer Debra Playfair is opening an upscale re-sale store in Creemore, with a portion of proceeds going to those in need. In association with St. Luke’s Anglican Church, where Playfair is a parishioner, she hopes to funnel some of the funds from the store to the church’s outreach efforts, to make sure people have the essentials. “It would come as a surprise to some that there are people around here who don’t have much, even in terms of food,” she said. In partnership with church clergy Wendy Moore and Lorna May, the money will be used to help people who have expressed a need for assistance, be it paying utility bills, purchasing clothing or food, transportation and other specific needs. May said a combination of factors – high rent, part time work and food insecurity – can result in a tight (See “All” on page 14)
