Clive VanderBurgh plays a song from his new album, Hair Between His Toes.

Producer makes music for Creemore By Trina Berlo Clive VanderBurgh’s new album is his gift to children. “I wanted to make a contribution to the community using the talents that I have,” said VanderBurgh. “My joy is creating media for children, especially in the three- to eight-year age range.” The title track from Hair Between

His Toes is about a musical pig who takes a hissy fit while strolling through Creemore and eats most of the town “except The Bank Café, Affairs and Cardboard Castles”. VanderBurgh worked in children’s media for CBC and TVO on Today’s Special, Sesame Street, Math Patrol, Math Makers, Cucumber, Roots and

Wings and McCabe Mysteries. He spent four decades producing and teaching children’s media. He has worked as a producer, director, writer, musical director, and has written more than 1,000 songs. This was in the heyday of children’s media, said VanderBurgh, when (See “Album” on page 3)

By Trina Berlo Eight new stop signs will be installed in Creemore in response to residents’ concerns about speeding and pedestrian safety. Clearview council agreed to several actions Monday to address traffic concerns voiced by a number of residents

living on Creemore’s east side. Jeremy Ray, Linda Coulter, Doug Mills and Caitlin Sumner spoke in support of Deputy Mayor Barry Burton’s motion to create community safety zones, doubling fines for speeding, on Mill Street, from County Road 9 to George Street, and on George Street, from

Concession 3 to Mill Street. Council also agreed to add stop signs along Mary Street, creating four-way stops at Edward Street East and George Street, and another at Library Street and Elizabeth Street East, and a three-way stop at Francis Street East and Mary. (See “Community” on page 3)

by Trina Berlo A seven-year-old boy was killed in a house fire last Thursday on Highway 26, near County Road 10 in Clearview Township. “Despite rescue efforts by first responders and persons at scene, the victim could not make it out and died in the house fire,” said police. Emergency crews were called to attend to the fire just before 9 p.m. to find four occupants had escaped and the house was fully engulfed in flames. Emergency crews were advised that one occupant, the seven-year-old boy, was still trapped inside. Media reports identified the boy as Dominic Denesiuk-Smith. Two single fathers, three children, an 18-year-old and two dogs were living at the house, according to an online fundraising page set up by Karla Amy. She said, “This family is in need of everything and any donations would be greatly appreciated. They did not have house insurance so starting from the bottom is not easy… Please let’s come together and help this family.” Two Creemore flower shops sold flowers and donated all of the proceeds to the family. Kelsey Rowbotham of the Cut Flower Co. said she had flowers left over from a wedding so she made them into bouquets and sold them, contributing all proceeds to the fundraising campaign. She has a farm near Sunnidale Corners and heard the sirens. “Once I knew what had happened I couldn’t get the sound out of my head,” said Rowbotham. (See “Donors” on page 3)
