J. Ross Robinson 1951 – 2014 Ross was a Renaissance man whose everyday life encompassed the worlds of culture through ballet, literature and music. He loved people and expressed that love in his distinctive style of entertaining with courtesy, wit and elan. Following a brief illness, Ross died in Toronto on August 31, 2014, leaving his beloved wife Robin Vaile; sisters Margot MacLeod (Angus); Nancy Walshe (Anthony); and Robin’s son Philip Dyment and his children Gabrielle and Jack; and many treasured, loyal friends. Ross was a master communicator who was engaged passionately in the world around him, which led to his stellar professional life in teaching, along with his various consultancy positions with federal government ministries and in Canada’s museum establishment. His charitable work was highlighted by his key role in founding of the Little Angels Blood Cancer Fund at the Ottawa Hospital. Ross adored his rural life in Creemore with Robin where he proudly cared for the land and raised his animals; a small herd of Highland cattle, an amusing donkey named Bob, and two spirited Airedale dogs, and he was an active participant in environmental issues affecting the area. As fervently as he cherished country life, Ross loved his Toronto city life and world travels with Robin, especially to Mexico and India. His years of successfully coping with leukemia to reach a cancer-free life endowed Ross with a profound sense of the precarious nature of life and the resolve to cherish every day he lived. Significantly, Ross left a refined footprint of his wit and camaraderie that will be treasured by all who knew him. Deepest gratitude is extended to all teams of doctors and nurses who cared for Ross at the Toronto General Hospital. Friends are invited to a reception in Ross’s memory at the Thornwood Club, 20 Scrivener Square, on Wednesday, September 3, and Thursday, September 4, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral will be held Monday, September 8, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of the Redeemer, 162 Bloor Street (Bloor and Avenue Road.) A Come & Go Gathering will take place at Dunedin Hall on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ross Robinson’s memory would be greatly appreciated to: The National Ballet of Canada, (www.national. ballet.ca ) or the Little Angels Blood Fund, Ottawa General Hospital, (www.little-angels.ca)
