IT’S COPPER KETTLE TIME There are several big weekends on the Creemore calendar, and this is surely one of them. Saturday ushers in the 11th edition of the Creemore Springs Copper Kettle Festival, complete with children’s activities, a beer tent, a variety of food choices and live music (this year will see George Cash, the Rizdales, Adam Webster, Mookie & the Loyalists and Jason Redmond take the stage). That all begins at Mad River Park at noon, shortly after the Beinn Gorm Highlanders pipe us all down Mill Street in official fashion. But that’s not all this weekend provides. Saturday also sees the always growing Copper Kettle Classics Car Show, run by Corey Finkelstein, Alex Hargrave and a host of dedicated volunteers. It’s truly a sight to see when every parking spot on Mill Street, from Frances Street to Edward Street, is claimed by a beautiful, shiny vintage automobile. This year, we have a new addition to the Mill Street festivities as well, with 10996_Cree_CopKtle_4.9375x7.75Ad_v1ol.indd 1
Cheryl Robertson of Creemore House of Stitches staging a massive exhibition celebrating the “Craftswomen of Creemore.” The show will be full of locally made quilts and hand arts, and demonstrations will take place throughout the day. On Sunday, Creemore Springs and the 100 Mile Store have teamed up to add a whole new day to the festival: an event, called the “Made in Creemore Locavore Lunch,” that will focus on all the great food we grow locally. For $150 dollars a plate, guests can gather in pastoral Mad River Park and dine on fare from three local restaurants (Chez Michel, the Old Mill House and the Sovereign) as well as several superstar chefs from outside the area (including Michael Statlander and the head chefs of Canoe, the Drake Hotel and Hiro Sushi among others). For a detailed schedule of Copper Kettle events on Saturday, see page 8. And enjoy the festivities! 11-08-16 10:50 AM

Volunteer Chinkers Needed by Brad Holden With the Creemore Log Cabin well on its way to becoming a new attraction (as well as a reminder to residents of our own heritage), the Log Cabin Service Board is now looking for volunteers who might like to help with the chinking of the building. Chinking is the process of applying mortar and binding material to the gaps between the logs. Some of this work, particularly the high parts, are to be done by the
contractors. But in order to save costs and to give people a sense that the cabin is theirs, the plan is to run a training clinic for volunteers shortly after Labour Day weekend and have some volunteer members of the community assist in the process. Board members Chris and Pat Raible will be at the Farmers’ Market coffee booth this weekend if people have any questions. Potential volunteers can also call the Raibles at 705-466-2261.
