New drawings for the block of Mill Street between Elizabeth and Edward show the removal of all industrial activity to the rear of the building.
BREWERY PRESENTS TOWNSHIP WITH REVISED PLAN by Brad Holden After several weeks in consultations with neighbours and Township planners, Creemore Springs Brewery has submitted a revised site plan for its proposed expansion and is hoping that Clearview Township will make a decision on its applications for a rezoning and an official plan amendment at its July 12 meeting. Township planning director Michael Wynia, however, told Council at its Monday night meeting that several studies and peer reviews associated with the applications still need completing and could not guarantee that his final report
would be finished in time to be presented at that meeting. The new site plan, as Creemore Springs executive vice president Gordon Fuller and operations manager Kurtis Zeng showed the Echo Monday afternoon, has undergone several changes since the version that resulted in a divided public meeting in mid-April (see page 6). Most significantly, the brewery’s water/ malt delivery and spent grain loading have been removed from Mill Street and Elizabeth respectively, meaning the renovated facility would no longer have any industrial-type activities or
truck loading/unloading taking place on the main street. Instead, these facilities are proposed to be grouped in one area at the rear of the building, relatively hidden from view. Trucks will access the location from Elizabeth Street, and exit on Edward Street. The additional fermenting tanks proposed for the northwest corner of the building have been reconfigured as well. Originally, the plan called for the addition of ten 800-hectolitre tanks, which would protrude above the building’s roofline. Now, the brewery is proposing to use 15 smaller, 600-hectolitre tanks that would
fit inside the building. Since the water/malt delivery and spent-grain loading would now take place where several parking spots had been proposed in the original plan, parking has now been extended the entire length of the western edge of the property. And to make room for this, as well as to ensure that beer delivery trucks use the Elizabeth Street entrance/exit instead of the Edward Street one, the proposed warehouse addition has been decreased in size from 6,600 square feet to 4,800 square feet. That means the brewery will have to (See “Brewery’s” on page 6)
