Farewell to the NCPS Annex
As the old building at 35 Caroline Street West prepares for its closing celebration on Thursday, June 19, the Echo asked some of its last students to tell us their favourite things about the school:
Ruby McQueen, Grade 1
Derk Hovius, Grade 1
Ava Hogben, Grade 2
Bella Dupuis, SK
“The library because there are lots of different kinds of books.”
“The climber on the playground with the slide. I like playing on it.”
“I like doing milk helpers, delivering milk to kindergarteners.”
“Drawing with markers, crayons and pencils at our tables.”
Jackson Mitchell, Grade 2
Evening Martin, SK
Miles Dempsey, Grade 2
Ava Lane, Grade 2
“I like that it’s small and I fit in really, really well. I have made a lot of friends!”
“Sometimes I like to play in the shade of the trees outside.”
“I like Olympics Day when we played mini-stick hockey.”
“The classrooms that hold the memories of our teachers.”
Yarnbombed!
Library leaks get a cash fix By Kristi Green Earlier this month, Council increased the Clearview Public Library’s 2014 Capital Budget to cover the cost of a new roof – and not a minute too soon. The roof will help eliminate the growth of mould, which has been found in the building, resulting from continued leakage from the facility’s flat roof during rain storms. “The Board is coming to Council in a hurry,” said Jennifer La Chapelle, Chief Executive Officer of the Clearview Public Library, at the June 2 Council meeting. “We would like to
get the mold out of the building.” The new roof will be installed in July by Midhurst Roofing using an extra $11,640.40 from the Board’s Reserve Fund. “We had budgeted $30,000, but [the bidders] came in higher, so we’re coming to Council for the rest of the money,” said La Chapelle. After a month-long reconstruction of the floor by Rainbow International earlier this spring, higher-than-normal levels of mould were detected in the main library and staff work area. Visitors to the Library likely noticed a new piece of headwear on the statue of Mary Cone Barrie earlier this week (left). The makeover occurred under cover of night; the only clue was a note that read, “Happy International Yarn Bombing Day!” Many local businesses found they had been “yarnbombed” on Tuesday, too. At the Echo office, we arrived to find an orange crocheted plant holder (with plants!) on our door. Although we have our suspicions, the Creemore Yarnbomber's identity remains a mystery.
