Showcasing Clearview
The Health and Leisure Showcase takes place at the Stayner Community Centre on Saturday, March 21. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., service providers will be showcasing various recreation activities at booths and on the main stage. Local teen called to legislature by Trina Berlo Aiden Campbell has been studying the names and faces of provincial members of parliament this March Break. In between hockey games and helping out at home, the 14-year-old Singhampton resident is studying up for a two-week stint as a legislative page at Queen’s Park in Toronto. Aiden was provided flash cards with the names and faces of 107 members of provincial parliament (MPP) in preparation for his duties. Beginning March 23, Aiden will be learning about provincial politics from the inside. He is one of 24 pages
selected from more than 400 applicants through a highly competitive selection process. Aiden learned about the page program through fellow students who had been selected. He talked to his teacher about it and was encouraged to apply. He filled out an application and wrote a 750-word essay about why he was a good candidate, outlining his community volunteer work, involvement in the school community at Nottawa Elementary School and personal interests. The Creemore Skating Club will be skating to their Disney favourites at the 46th annual skating carnival at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 29 at the arena in Creemore. The show will feature guest skater Angelina Maniatis and the Country Blades Adult Synchronized Skating Team. Admission costs $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and $2 for students. Children under 12 are admitted free.
If walls could talk
A new exhibit, entitled If the Walls Could Talk, is opening at The Dufferin County Museum on Saturday, April 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibit is about the stories inside the buildings of Dufferin County, the people who lived there and the wonderful artifacts from the buildings. It will feature learning stations for children to explore lumbering, bridge building, stained glass windows and the tools and machines used to build strong and stable structures.
