Senior youth theatre presents Animal Farm

Directed by KAte Ross

In this electrifying stage adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm, The Courtyard’s Senior Youth Theatre expose the brutal mechanics of power and revolution. When the animals of Manor Farm overthrow their oppressive owner, they dream of a life of freedom. Little do they know that the pursuit of equality often breeds new forms of tyranny. As the pigs gradually assume leadership, their revolutionary ideals slowly corrupt. Led by the cunning Napoleon, they manipulate language, rewrite history, and betray the revolution’s original principles. Through razor-sharp performances, this next generation of young talent will go on a gripping exploration of power, corruption and the fragility of hope. Animal Farm speaks to the heart of today’s world, where promises of change can quickly turn into a cycle of manipulation and control. A daring, thought-provoking modern retelling that will leave you questioning who holds the reins in a society that claims to be free…

Sarah and Charlie both studied Fine Art painting at Falmouth. Although their separate practices have continued to explore abstract concerns there has recently been an unplanned coming together of ideas and artworks. A shared interest in collage and assemblage, the use of ‘found’ and recycled materials together with the use of vibrant colour have all been realised and made visible through their individual, distinct and independent practices.

Paul Kincaid

The production of Kincaid’s pieces is ritualistic process, ideas are drawn from the subconscious mind and given form by stages: collages of restricted visual matter, chosen by primary response, focus the attention and precede drawings, clay models and finally, carved stone. The fluidity of form produced by this technique, provides the basis of its final transition into stone; Kincaid views consideration of this anatomy in his work as “a communication with the non perceived. The Body Mythical and Spiritual”.

AWARD WINNERS!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that The Courtyard has been awarded the prestigious Accessible and Inclusive Venue award at the 2024 Visit Herefordshire Awards ceremony, which took place on Wednesday 26 February at the lovely Lyde Court.

This recognition means so much to our entire team, who work tirelessly to ensure that The Courtyard is welcoming and accessible to everyone in our community. From our accessible performances and screenings to our adapted facilities and staff training, making arts and culture available to all has always been at the heart of our mission.

As a regional award winner, our application was submitted for consideration for the national Visit England Awards and we are delighted to be chosen as a finalist following a rigorous judging process by handpicked tourism industry experts. The national awards ceremony, held at the Brighton Dome Corn Exchange, is on 4 June - which at the time of writing hasn’t happened yet, so check our website or socials for an update, and hopefully some good news!

MOBILE HOIST

A brand-new mobility hoist has been purchased, with the support of Rotherwood Healthcare, for trained carers and PAs to use with their clients when accessing classes, workshops and activities at The Courtyard and can be used in all areas of the building.

“We’re always looking for ways we can be more accessible at The Courtyard, so when a request came in from a young person wanting to join our workshops but struggling due to our lack of mobile hoist, it was an easy decision!”

PLAY TIME!

We have recently taken some exciting steps toward creating more inclusive and engaging spaces for children of all abilities. Our foyer area now features an innovative OmiVista interactive floor projector, creating an immersive sensory experience where children can interact with projected images that respond to their movements. This state-of-the-art technology from Omi UK is specifically designed to support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), offering customisable visual experiences that encourage movement, social interaction, and cognitive development. We’ve also installed a tactile play wall in our Cafe Bar Area, featuring an array of sensory and wooden toys that invite exploration through touch and creative play.

As we continue to expand our inclusive workshops and children’s activities, we hope these new interactive spaces will provide valuable engagement opportunities and create a welcoming environment for all families. These improvements have been made possible through the generous support of Rowlands Trust and The Elmley Foundation, we look forward to witnessing the positive impact they’ll have on our community’s youngest visitors.

NEW WHEELCHAIRS

The Courtyard has recently received three brand new wheelchairs, generously donated by TPG DisableAids, one of our valued Business and Supporters Club members.
