WELCOME
As we reach the end of a momentous year for The Courtyard, it is a real pleasure to look forward and welcome you to our January–April 2027 programme. The months ahead promise to be an exciting celebration of creativity, performance and community, with a programme that reflects the wonderfully diverse audiences and artists we are proud to welcome to The Courtyard. This season, we are delighted to showcase the next generation of performers through our Junior Youth Theatre production of Peter Pan, while our co-production of Sweeney Todd with Ludwig Theatre Arts brings together an ambitious and thrilling theatrical collaboration. Accessibility and inclusion remain at the heart of what we do, and I am particularly pleased that this season includes an important accessible production from global leader in disability arts, Stopgap. They’ll be beinging their superb production Lived Fiction! featuring their incredible disabled artists. This performance is also part of our Pay What You Decide scheme designed to ensure everyone can have the chance to experience new and exciting work without the risk of the unknown. We hope these performances will provide welcoming spaces for everyone to experience the joy of live theatre. We are also excited to be working again with our long time partners Feral, presenting Unleashed, and Borderlines, celebrating a very special anniversary year. Together, these highlights form just part of a programme designed to entertain, challenge, inspire and bring people together. Whether you are joining us for the first time or are a familiar face at The Courtyard, thank you for being part of our community. We look forward to sharing this season with you and, as always, welcoming you through our doors. Come on an epic adventure at The Courtyard this Christmas with an enchanting version of Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless story, The Snow Queen – the perfect festive treat for little ones not quite ready for pantomime. Best friends Gerda and Kay are inseparable, but when the Snow Queen steals Kay away and threatens to turn his heart into a lump of ice, Gerda sets off on an extraordinary adventure to save her best friend. On her way, she meets lots of magical and mysterious characters, who help her discover her true strength. Packed with original songs and interaction aplenty, this exciting show is designed to be welcoming and inclusive for all young audiences. Our child friendly production means everyone can enjoy the adventure in their own way – wiggles, giggles and wonder are all very much encouraged.

Courtyard Senior Youth Theatre presents HIRE AD ST HIRE 1984 AD ST Written by George Orwell Directed by Kate Ross
The Courtyard’s Senior Youth Theatre present a bold, fresh adaptation of George Orwell’s dystopian classic. With London under totalitarian rule, mass surveillance controls its inhabitants under the ever-watchful eye of Big Brother. The government controls what is truth and what is reality, and history will be re-written to fit this. Citizens are encouraged to hate anything and anyone that is ‘other’ and unite in that hatred. In a state where compliance is everything, how can one man, Winston Smith rebel against the system? How could any of us? Incredibly relevant to our time, 1984 was written as a stark warning of what could come and the world Orwell created seems closer than ever.

And are there witches in Salem? In a climate of fear, a witch hunt begins, leading neighbours to turn on one another and lies to rule the day.
