WELCOME TO OUR SPRING SEASON FAREWELL FROM MARTYN GREEN

Chief Executive

After nearly 12 years at The Courtyard, I have now decided that it is time for me to move on. I have enjoyed my time immensely here in Herefordshire and have seen The Courtyard transformed during this time into a flourishing and vibrant arts centre that is well respected both nationally and even more importantly - locally. I would like to pay tribute to all of the staff that I have worked with over the last 12 years, many of whom started their careers at The Courtyard and have gone on to work in significant organisations across the country. There have been many highlights for me over the years here and it is difficult for me to single them out, but I am extremely proud of the quality of work that we have been able to create and bring to you. I have seen and been a part in the creation of some amazing Courtyard productions which have included amongst them The Rise & Fall of Little Voice, The Diary of Anne Frank, Not About Heroes as well as of course the many pantomimes that I have produced here. My final one being this Christmas, I hope that many of you will come and see Dick Whittington which I am sure will be our best one yet! So, as I introduce my final season to you, I hope that you will find some amazing treats in store to brighten up the dark winter evenings as we move towards spring. Some of my highlights

to look out for are 2-Faced Dance Company here in February with Out of his Skin; then Vamos Theatre Company with our co-production of Finding Joy - an insightful look at growing older; our Junior Youth Theatre will be staging a musical production of the acclaimed tale by Rudyard Kipling The Jungle Book at Easter, and, finally, I urge you to book for the amazing production of I was a Rat, which will be here at the end of May. This is the ‘must see’ of the year for me and I will definitely be returning to see this personally! So, as my final season at The Courtyard draws to a close and I hand over to my successor, I would like to thank you all for your help and support over the last 12 years. I would ask you to join with me in wishing the new Chief Executive every success and I hope that they enjoy their time at The Courtyard as much as I have. But firstly, don’t forget the magic of Christmas as 2012 draws to a close, with this year’s panto promising to be our best-ever yet; if you haven’t booked yet there is still time to do so, if you are quick! Now all you have to do is contact the Box Office and we will do the rest for you! My very best wishes for a very happy 2013. Martyn Green, Chief Executive

THERE’S A MONSTER IN MY PIANO Sponsored by

William Bloor, a Foxfinder, arrives at Sam and Judith Covey’s farm to investigate a suspected contamination. What follows will change the course of all their lives, forever. Foxfinder is a gripping, unsettling and darkly comic exploration of belief, desire and responsibility. “You, Foxfinder, must be clean in body and mind. Always remember that the smallest fault in your character could become a crack into which the beast may insinuate himself, like water awaiting the freeze that will smash the stone apart.”

What do you do when you hear a strange munching noise inside a piano? Call the Piano Doctor of course. He might be able to help with his bag full of ears and his collection of weird and wonderful tools. But when he looks inside - the musical notes are packing their bags and running away. Starring puppets, clowning, animation and a very highly strung monster indeed.

Vamos Theatre, in this co-production with The Courtyard, is delighted to present its new full mask touring production, Finding Joy; a funny, touching, vital, and heroic tale of adventure...and dementia. Joy is creative, funny, loves to dance, and is losing her memory: her grandson Danny is rebellious, fearless, bright, and always getting into trouble. When, out of the blue, Danny decides to become Joy’s carer, where will their unexpected and playful bond lead them? Like Doctor Who and his assistant Rose Tyler, or the Time Traveller and his Wife, what happens if we find ourselves in different realities to our loved ones? Can we accept the change? Find a new language to bridge the divide? And which reality is really reality? Do they exist simultaneously, as the quantum theorists would say?

MAN ON A MISSION... Thanks to Pritchards Menswear for supporting a range of film screenings of more interest to the male Herefordshire population over the last few months including The Sweeney and the latest Bond movie Skyfall. WELCOME TO.... Thanks to Mark Ellis of Ellis Properties who joins us as a Silver Business Club member.

Sponsoring much of our classical music output this year, Claridge Nursing Homes’ boss Richard Claridge had a unique opportunity to meet the classical world’s best know guitar duo, the Katona twins, during last season’s BBC Radio 3 live broadcast at The Courtyard. www.claridgenursinghomes.co.uk

INDIVIDUAL GIVING Whilst many people know that The Courtyard is Herefordshire’s Centre for the Arts, many still do not realise that we are also a registered charity (no. 1067869). More than 1000 people support The Courtyard, helping us to deliver more arts projects in new ways to serve the communities of Herefordshire. We need your generous support to safeguard the future of these projects.

BECOME A PATRON If The Courtyard and what it represents are important to you, you may feel that you want to further your relationship with us. Our Patrons are advocates for the work that we do, and have a very close relationship with us. We hold regular Patrons events such as monthly coffee mornings, meet-the-cast shows with receptions, and opening night parties. Patrons are entitled to even more benefits, and with a range of Patron levels from £75 to £1000 you can support us at a level that is comfortable for you.

REMEMBER US IN YOUR WILL Safeguard theatre in Herefordshire for future generations by leaving us a bequest in your will. This is a tax-effective way of giving and is simple to put in place.
