FROM THE

PRESIDENT ANDREW R. VOLLMER, PRESIDENT

THE COUNTRY CLUB OFFICERS Andrew R. Vollmer President

Dear Members,

Paul H. Cascio Vice President

As we communicated earlier, the Board of Trustees has begun a Strategic Planning process designed to help guide The Country Club in the years ahead.

Gregg G. Muresan Treasurer

Over the past few weeks, over 120 members shared their perspectives through a series of focus groups facilitated by GGA, an experienced advisor to private clubs we’ve engaged to assist us with the Strategic Planning process. These conversations gave us insights into what members value about The Country Club, where they see opportunities for improvement, and what they believe should be considered for the future. This feedback has helped shape a comprehensive survey that will soon be distributed to the membership.

Jason D. Palus Assistant Treasurer

Every adult member and spouse will have an opportunity to participate in the survey, which will be open from October 12 through October 25. I strongly encourage you to complete the survey, as your input will help shape the Club’s priorities in the coming years.

Erica E. McGregor Secretary Eli S. Edgerly Assistant Secretary

2026 BOARD OF TRUSTEES

You will receive additional information in the coming weeks, followed by an individual email with a link to the survey. When it arrives, I hope you take a few minutes to share your perspectives.

Paul H. Cascio

Following the survey, the Board of Trustees will carefully review the results along with relevant market data, advice from GGA and other information as we develop the Strategic Plan. We expect to share a summary of the findings and our direction with the Membership early next year.

Steven J. Fitzgerald, MD

I also want to thank everyone who recently contributed to the Employee and Caddie Scholarship Program. We have started the process of establishing The Country Club Foundation as a 501(c)(3). The Foundation will build upon our existing Employee and Caddie Scholarship Program, providing a more efficient structure for Member contributions and allowing us to expand the program over time. Our goal is to increase the support to our employees and caddies and continue investing in the people who contribute so much to the Club.

G. Matthew Ottaway

Lawrence F. Cruise James J. Lauer John P. O’Brien Jr. Craig A. Steinbrink Andrew R. Vollmer Thomas W. Weidenkopf

Finally, the Holiday season will be here before we know it. This is always a special time at Country, with many opportunities to enjoy the facilities and the camaraderie among the Members. I hope you and your families will join us throughout the season, including at The Wassail Bowl, one of our special Club traditions. I look forward to seeing you there!

FROM THE

GENERAL MANAGER ELI S. EDGERLY, GENERAL MANAGER/COO It was another great summer at Country. Even with the rainy conditions we experienced late in the season, the Club remained busy around the property and in our dining rooms. Fortunately, September brought beautiful weather and gave us a few more weeks to enjoy the Club outdoors. As the temperatures begin to cool, there is still plenty happening at Country. Paddle activity is picking up, the Skeet Field is preparing to open for the season, and Steve and his team are getting the indoor simulator ready so members can continue working on their games throughout the winter. We are also transitioning from patio season to indoor dining. The fireplaces will soon be going, and Chef Scott has updated the menus for the fall. In October, we will also begin our Pop-Up Restaurant series in the Men’s Grill, offering members a different dining experience within the Club. I hope you will give one a try. Before long, our attention will turn to the holidays. The Club has a full calendar of events planned throughout the season, and I hope to see many of you enjoying them with family and friends. Last year, the Board expanded Wassail to include adult children of members age 24 and older, along with their significant others. The change allowed more members to enjoy this longstanding Country tradition with their families, and the Board has

4 | Summer 2026

decided to continue it again this year. As we close another summer season, I also want to recognize our employees. Throughout a very busy summer, our team remained focused on providing a great experience for members and guests. I am especially grateful for our long-term employees, whose experience and commitment provide an important foundation for the Club. Country has a strong tradition of treating employees with dignity and respect, and that culture has helped us develop and retain an exceptional group of tenured employees. Our seasonal staff also deserves recognition. They brought tremendous energy to the Club and worked hard throughout the summer before many returned to college. Their contribution is an important part of what makes the summer season possible. One way the membership showed its appreciation was through contributions to the Zelma Kelly Employee and Caddie Scholarship Program. This year, member support allowed the Club to provide 72 scholarships to employees and caddies attending 32 different universities and educational institutions. Thank you to everyone who contributed. The scholarship program provides meaningful assistance to our employees and caddies while also helping Country attract and retain great people. Thank you to our employees, caddies, and members for another successful summer. I look forward to seeing everyone around the Club this fall and throughout the holiday season.

CLUB LIFE

GET TO KNOW... One of the greatest things about Country is the staff who work tirelessly year-round to deliver exceptional service and hospitality to every member and guest who visits the clubhouse. We are excited to start spotlighting exceptional staff members in the Courier to build a better connected community between staff and members here at the Club. One of those exceptional staff members is Bartender Ken Moenich. Ken began working at Country in 2019, after his daughter, who also worked at the Club, mentioned the Club had an open Bartender position. As a retired sixth-grade science and social studies teacher, Ken had no previous bartending experience. After a two-week training period, he was ready to tend bar on his own, and he’s been doing it ever since. Q: What’s your favorite thing about working at Country? A: Talking to the members. There are so many nice ones here at Country, and it’s great getting to know them. Q: What’s your favorite drink to make? What’s your least favorite? A: I don’t think I have a favorite. I do like when the members teach me a new drink! My least favorite drinks to make are any with more than five ingredients. Q: What do you like to do in your free time, outside of work? A: This summer I spent a lot of time gardening and pickling. I like to golf, but I don’t get to golf enough. My favorite places to golf are at Country, Ridgewood Golf Course in Parma and Ironwood in Hinckley. Q: What are your hopes for the Club’s future? A: I’d like to continue to see the growth of the young membership. I want to see my bar full!

FOOD & BEVERAGE SCOTT RYAN CEC, AAC, EXECUTIVE CHEF Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Chef’s Table and our Martha’s Vineyard Dinner Under the Stars. We had a lot of fun putting these events together. They give our team a chance to get creative, try something different, and put together menus that are outside what we do every day. Fall is always a fun time in the kitchen. The season brings new ingredients and flavors, and you will start to see those work their way onto our menus as the weather gets cooler. We are also bringing our Pop-Up Restaurants back to the Men’s Grill in October. We will start on Friday, October 9, with Fusion, featuring Asian, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern flavors. Fusion will run for three weeks before we bring back The Country Cantina and its Southwest-inspired menu. The Cantina was a member favorite last year, and we are looking forward to bringing it back with a few new ideas. The Pop-Ups give us a chance to have some fun with food and give you something

different to try. They also let our culinary team work with new ingredients and cooking styles. I hope you will stop in and give them a try. We will also offer a Cooking Class in October. If you haven’t joined us for one before, you will learn a few things in the kitchen, but it is just as much about having a fun night at the Club. Space is limited, so sign up early if you would like to join us. The holidays will be here before we know it. If you are planning a family gathering, company dinner, or holiday party at the Club, now is a good time to reserve your space. November and December are always busy, and popular dates and rooms fill quickly. We also have plenty of holiday events and themed brunches coming up. If you are celebrating at home, we will once again offer our Thanksgiving and Holiday Take-Out Menus. Order a few favorites to round out your meal or let us take care of the whole thing. Either way, we are happy to do some of the cooking so you can spend more time enjoying the holiday. There is a lot to look forward to over the next few months. I hope you will join us for a PopUp, a holiday event, or simply dinner at the Club. We look forward to cooking for you.

GREENS MATT POWELL, GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT Fall is one of the most important periods in the agronomic year because it allows turf recovery, course improvement work, and a foundation for next season through appropriate cultural practices. The changing seasons also mean cooler nights, shorter days, and lingering moisture, which slows turf growth. These conditions change how the course plays and how we must manage it. Our team will concentrate on plant health and targeted improvements that prepare the property for winter and next season. We will continue to balance mowing, rolling, moisture management, and nutrition so greens remain consistent while the plant stores energy for winter. What is completed now determines how the turf enters dormancy and how quickly it returns in spring. FALL PRIORITIES Aeration (October 5–7) and Recovery • Playing surfaces made it through the summer season very strong with minimal issues. A key reason is continued strong cultural practices. We were pleased with the results of our fairway aeration, completed in late August despite unfavorable wet conditions. • The upcoming aeration will focus on greens, approaches, tees, and practice facilities. These surfaces will receive multiple processes that benefit the soil at varying depths, relieve a season of compaction, open channels for air and water, and encourage deeper rooting for reliable putting surfaces next season. • Deep soil fracturing breaks up compaction and provides channels for root growth, while vert-cutting at the surface removes high percentages of organic matter, leading to tighter playing surfaces. • Cooler autumn temperatures slow turf growth, so the holes and sand may

20 | Summer 2026

•

remain visible for weeks after the work, depending on conditions. We rely on physical soil analysis data from a lab each year to monitor organic matter, soil structure, water movement, and root-zone performance. We track these measurements over several seasons to determine aeration intensity, topdressing rates, and moisture practices. Aeration is vital to course success, and we complete our work based on the data we gather.

Leaf and Debris Control As leaf drop increases, crews will keep surfaces, approaches, and high-traffic areas clear. Debris left on turf shades the canopy, holds moisture against the plant, and can weaken turf heading into winter. Course infrastructure repairs • Bridges with failing boards will be replaced or rebuilt, namely the bridges by #1 green and #11 tee. • Cart path work will address potholes and replace selected gravel sections on #3 and #14. • The drainage-pipe headwall under No. 12 fairway will be repaired, along with the fairway sinkholes that developed through the fairway. Drainage Improvements Following a historically wet spring, several areas continue to limit turf health and cart access. Improving drainage in those locations remains a major focus this fall. Our team completes much of this work in-house, with installations that began in September in out-of-play areas so they do not interfere with golf. As play slows toward mid-October, attention will shift to fairways through November. The main fairways scheduled for this phase are Nos. 6 and 15 short of the greens. The excess soil generated from the trenches will be repurposed in low-lying fescue areas where water collects, preventing the fescue from growing and allowing weeds to flourish. We will grade these areas properly to allow water to drain off, then plant new sod.

GREENS Proper drainage moves water that would otherwise sit in the root zone off the playing surface. The result is firmer turf after rain, fewer prolonged cart restrictions, and faster recovery when growth is slow. Some areas or holes will be temporarily marked, roped off, or under construction. Work will proceed as weather, traffic, and ground conditions allow.

HOW YOU CAN HELP •

• •

WHAT MEMBERS CAN EXPECT You may notice occasional frost delays, temporary cart restrictions, or weatheraffected morning maintenance activity. Walking or driving on frost-covered grass can injure the plant in ways that may not heal until spring. These adjustments protect turf when it is most vulnerable and allow the staff to keep the course in the best possible condition. Skeet season begins October 17 and continues each weekend after, which means anyone golfing on hole #10 is reminded to ring the bell when teeing off. This helps alert skeet participants to any balls that may be hit onto the skeet field.

Repair ball marks on greens, and one additional mark when possible. Unrepaired marks heal more slowly in cool weather and can affect putting quality. Follow posted cart signs and daily traffic guidance. Traffic patterns change with moisture and frost. Keep carts away from green surrounds, tees, and wet or shaded areas, where turf is most easily damaged. Use divot mix where provided and replace divots when appropriate.

Thank you for your continued support and your patience as our team completes these improvement projects and prepares the course for winter. RACQUETS CHRIS KLAMPE, DIRECTOR OF RACQUETS, USPTA P-1 Greetings racquets enthusiasts, as the temps cool down, I am excited to get back on the paddle courts. This summer we saw unprecedented action on the paddle courts as several members just wanted to keep on forging ahead, heat be darned! Those players are likely to get a jump on the leagues in a couple weeks. If this holds true, I expect even more paddle play to be enjoyed next summer to accompany the usual tennis and pickleball action. Two weeks ago we had another junior tennis interclub, this time we invited the young players from Kirtland Country Club over for a fun afternoon of tennis. Over 20 children participated in the event that is designed to get players ready to start playing real tournaments and/or competitive school teams. I congratulate the following players who gave it their all a few weeks ago.

who participated in the draw this year, it was a memorable time for sure!

SKEET FROM THE SKEET COMMITTEE Greetings from your Skeet Committee Skeet is an excellent way to enjoy the club during the winter months while connecting with fellow members. Whether you’re an expert, novice or simply curious, we encourage everyone to experience the fun of skeet shooting at our Club. It’s a fantastic way to build camaraderie and enjoy the club during the Fall, Winter and Spring months. HOURS OF OPERATION Saturdays from 10 AM to 5 PM Sundays from 12 PM to 5 PM Certain restrictions may apply during specific events. For a full list of events and related details, please visit the Club’s website. SCHEDULING & RESERVATIONS While we will continue to use the Club’s website and Cell Phone App to make reservations for skeet from Noon to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, the hours of 3-5 PM on Saturday and Sunday will be “open shoot” sessions for those who wish to drop in to shoot a few rounds with whomever else might be similarly inclined. To the extent lesson slots – typically set aside between 10 and noon on Saturdays – are unfilled come Friday morning, we will permit reservations for those two onehour intervals. For all other times, reservations are available in one-hour time slots, with four shooters per time slot. Experienced shooters who arrive at Station 1 on time can typically get in three rounds of skeet in an hour without rushing. Please help all Skeet participants by adhering to the posted scheduling policies: • • • • •

Reservations can be made five (5) days ahead of time and we will continue to allow guests this year. No more than three guests are permitted per day, and no guest can shoot more than four times per month. The guest fee remains $10. The host member, or family affiliate, must accompany all family guests. Please remember to cancel your reservation if your plans change so other members may have access to the range. If new to Skeet, please leave time to go through the Club’s Skeet Orientation & Safety Program before your scheduled time.

SKEET & GOLF ETIQUETTE The great part about Cleveland weather is that it is common to have Golf Season spill over into late Fall and resume in early Spring. Such being the case, we often run into situations where both golfers and shooters are active. To ensure all participants’ safety, the Club requires golfers to follow the safety notices put up at tees at 10 and 12. Also, the Club has installed a bell on the 10th tee for golfers to ring before teeing off to alert folks standing outside on the skeet range. • •

Golf holes 10 and 12 will be closed effective November 14th. Before November 14th, our range officers will be mindful of any people on the course approaching #10 green and on #12 fairway and will ensure skeet shooters stand down until the range is clear.

GIVE SKEET A TRY! We’re excited to continue introducing new participants to the sport of Skeet shooting! Whether you’re a beginner or looking to brush up on your skills, we encourage you to get involved. The Club provides shotguns, ammunition, and all necessary safety gear for your convenience. If you’re new to Skeet shooting, you’ll need to complete the Club’s Skeet Orientation & Safety Program. This ensures you’re comfortable with the equipment and familiar with range safety rules. For the best experience, we highly recommend that new shooters take advantage of our dedicated lesson times. Not only will you get a comprehensive introduction to our safety protocols, but you’ll also learn the essential techniques to make your Skeet experience more successful and enjoyable. SKEET PARTICIPATION BY MINORS To participate in Skeet, children must be at least 12 years old and will need a signed waiver form from a parent or guardian. Children ages 12 to 15 must be accompanied on the range by a parent or guardian alongside the qualified range officer. Minors aged 16 & 17 may shoot without a parent or guardian on the range. As with all shooters new to our skeet field, minors must complete the safety orientation and training before shooting and must receive the range officer’s approval.

SKEET LESSONS For those looking to hone their skills or try skeet for the first time, lessons are a fantastic option. We’re fortunate to have Jim Eiermann, our Range Officer and Chief Instructor, leading our instructional sessions. Jim has helped shooters of all ages and skill levels improve their technique and enjoyment of the sport. Lessons are held every Saturday from 10 AM to 12 PM. If lesson slots are not filled by Friday morning, these times may be made available for other reservations.

NON-TOXIC AMMUNITION The Country Club skeet field requires, without exception, the use of non-toxic ammunition. Such ammunition, most often cartridges loaded with steel shot, will be available for purchase. If in doubt about ammunition availability in the Skeet House, please give Jim Eiermann a call.

Please call Jim Eiermann (the Club’s Range Officer) at 440-413-4848 (or send an email to him at this address: jeiermann@thecountryclub.com for details. He is happy to schedule an introductory lesson or set a time to work on a particular aspect of your skeet game.

NEW SHOOTING OPTIONS! Our Skeet Range is now equipped with three (3) additional clay target machines positioned about the skeet field to create our own “Sporting Skeet” format. Shooters who enjoy 5-Stand, Sporting Clay, and bird-hunting will enjoy the variety of shots now available with the addition of these new target presentations.

SKEET EQUIPMENT The Club has Browning over/under shotguns in 12, 20 and 28 gauge for use by its members and guests free of charge. In addition, we have a semi-auto 28 gauge that offers a lower recoil experience, wellsuited for new shooters and those with smaller frames. We also provide safety glasses and ear plugs for eye and hearing protection. Feel free to bring your own “eyes & ears” to meet this mandatory safety requirement.

Price For Ammunition 12 Gauge - $15.00 20 Gauge - $15.00 28 Gauge - $25.00

COUNTRY SKEET APPAREL We will have some skeet apparel (both casual and shooting-specific) available in the Skeet Hut and/or Pro Shop, but our primary source for Skeet apparel will be available through a website portal that will allow members to select exactly what they want (and what size). The link to this portal will be shared on the Club’s website, the weekly Courier, and posted in the Skeet Hut.

HAPPY HOUR AT SKEET — FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16 FROM 5:00 - 7:00PM Come enjoy a relaxed evening around the fire pit with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails by signature. This is a great chance to get to know the Skeet facility, learn how it works, and spend time with friends. Bring the family or come on your own. Everyone is welcome! Please note, there will be no shooting on this day. This is simply a fun opportunity to get familiar with Skeet and enjoy good company. DAWSON’S DEMO DAY — SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21 Whether you’re an experienced shooter or new to the sport, we invite you to come out to our Skeet Range for an exclusive opportunity to try a variety of guns at different price points offered by Dawson Enterprises in Massillon, Ohio. Champion shooter Pat McCarthy from Dawson’s will be here to guide you through the gun selection process. There’s no pressure to buy—just a chance to broaden your shooting experience in a live-fire setting, and something you simply can’t get from a storefront. Think of it like a Titleist Demo on the driving range, only a bit louder and at least as much fun! Don’t miss out! Register now through the Club website or app. SAFETY! We are lucky to have a Skeet range at Country and pride ourselves on having one of the best programs in northeast Ohio. One of the reasons for our success is our focus on safety. We continue to require all shooters to watch a Safety Video and sign a waiver. The video is a good overview for new shooters and a healthy refresher for those with more experience. Access to this information is easy via the QR codes in this Courier and on signage in the Skeet House. A few quick reminders on some same basic safety rules: • • • • • • • •

Treat every gun as if it can fire at any time, whether it is loaded or not and/or whether or not there is pressure on the trigger. Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Wear eye and hearing protection when out on the skeet field. Use only the precise gauge shells for the gun you are using. Use only #7, #7.5, #8 or #9 shot size ammunition. Do not load a shotgun until you are on a station and ready to shoot at a target. Listen to the instructions of the Range Officers (Jim Eiermann or is assistant), who enjoy the authority delegated to them by the Board to have final word on all matters on the skeet range. We look forward to the upcoming Skeet season at Country and hope to see just as many, if not more, of our members come out this season. Skeet is a terrific game with friends and family and one of the hidden gems of The Country Club!
