WALTZ
SABURO TESHIGAWARA
“Swirling excitement full of the joy of dance” – Morihiko Takahasi
The UK premiere of Waltz – a dynamic duet from influential Japanese choreographer Saburo Teshigawara and artistic collaborator Rihoko Sato.
Harnessing the three-beat tempo of waltzes from many countries and eras to evoke the dancers’ interior rhythm, heartbeat and breathing, Teshigawara creates a lively, vibrant and moving duet – a reflection on his own life and that of his long time collaborator, Rihoko Sato
Teshigawara has for many years been one of the leading change-makers in Japanese dance, moving away from the more traditional conventions, and giving dancers the freedom to express themselves. This piece, in the UK for the first time, is an emotive example of his outstanding creativity.
“Full of euphoria and freedom” – Cicogna Cristian, Aichi Arts Center Web Magazine
Teshigawara has won international acclaim as a choreographer, director and performer for over 30 years. He has also received international attention in the visual arts field, with art exhibitions, films/videos as well as designing scenography, lighting and costume for all his performances. Here, as with his last appearances at The Coronet in The Idiot and Tristan and Isolde, he dances with his longtime artistic collaborator Rihoko Sato
