NAMI SY, SECRETARY

The world is a stressful place, filled with hopes, dreams, scares, and noises of all shapes and sizes. Sometimes life can hit you with a completely unexpected surprise Sometimes life is seemingly an endless stream of surprises, with no barriers to hold them back. All the time, you just need a breather, and hopefully, this method helps with relaxing and rejuvenating your mind and soul
Inhale for 5 Seconds
Keep it in for 6 Seconds
Think of all the stuff that you don’t want in your head (stresses, worries, etc.)
Breathe out for 8 seconds, and imagine you’re blowing all those things out
What do you want to exhale? I get a lot of worries from time management and feel as if I’m juggling 100 things at once So for me, it’s good to imagine blowing out those worries away, and then figuring out I can actually solve them Yes the problems still exist, but now I’m in a far healthier mindset to deal them with. And that can be yours, if you take the time to breathe

Mixing the ingredients was pretty straightforward. After making the crust and patting it down into a tin, I put the filling on top. Afterwards, I just had to let it sit in the fridge for a few hours or overnight. I had tried the filling before and it was really good. There wasn't a lot of pumpkin flavor but it was just as good. It was creamy and not too sweet! The finished product was really good but next time I make this I need to make more filling for the amount I made. Luckily, my family seemed to like the crust-tofilling ratio. So…success!

Hey there! Ready to dive into the building blocks of life? Welcome to the amazing world of cells! This guide is going to make learning about cells fun and colorful. Grab your favorite highlighters and let's get started!

 Plant Cells vs. Animal Cells
Plant Cell
Animal Cell
Cell Wall ✔ Yes ❌ Nope
Chloroplasts ✔ Yes ❌ Nope
Large Vacuole ✔ Yes ❌ Nope
Cell Membrane ✔ Yes ✔ Yes
Plant Cells are like tough greenhouses (they have a wall!)
They also have chloroplasts that let them make food from sunlight (photosynthesis ).
Animal Cells are more flexible, but they still have a protective layer called the cell membrane.
✨ What’s a Cell?
Cells are like the LEGO blocks of all living things. They’re the smallest unit of life, and every living thing is made up of them!
Plant and Animal Cells are the two main types. You have animal cells in your body, and plants have plant cells in theirs. Pretty straightforward, right?

The Important Parts of the Cell
1.
Nucleus – This is like the brain of the cell. It tells the cell what to do!
Think of it as the control center .
2
Mitochondria – It gives the cell all the energy it needs to work.
3.
4.
It’s like the cell’s battery pack .
Cell Membrane – The bouncer of the cell. It controls what goes in and out.
It’s like the cell’s security guard!
Cytoplasm – This is the jelly-like goo inside the cell where all the organelles hang out.
Imagine a smoothie with floating fruit chunks —that’s kind of like the cytoplasm!
 Why Are Cells So Important?
Without cells, nothing would exist. Cells make up you, plants, animals, and everything living. They work 24/7 to keep things alive and functioning. In fact, your body has trillions of cells all working together to keep you going!
 Fun Facts
The biggest cell in the human body is the egg cell.
Mitochondria used to be independent bacteria billions of years ago! They just moved in and never left (talk about permanent roommates!).
The smallest cells are found in bacteria—they can be 1,000 times smaller than your average animal cell!

What part of the cell is like a battery?
What do plant cells have that animal cells don’t?
Which part of the cell is the brain?
LET’S SEE HOW MUCH YOU REMEMBER!

That’s it! Hope this guide helps you ace your next test. Remember, cells are life’s little superheroes—they might be small, but they’re mighty! Happy studying!
Imagine you are the quarterback for your high school football team. It is the last play of the game and your team is down 6 points Your heart is racing with the pressure of delivering the final pass in hopes of scoring a touchdown. You get set, you are sweating hard and your muscles feel tense. The play begins, you get the ball and throw it towards your wide receiver But the ball goes too far The game is over You lost
When athletes are faced with the anxiety of performing under pressure or in front of friends and family, they are met with adrenaline Adrenaline is a hormone in your body that prepares you for stressful events. It is supposed to help us in dangerous circumstances by increasing your senses to give you the best chance at survival It increases your heart rate, blood pressure, hearing, vision and other functions. Unfortunately for athletes, increasing these functions in a situation where you are not in immediate danger, can have negative effects on your performance.
Receiving large amounts of adrenaline during a game or performance can cause athletes to feel more “invincible” which may impair their decision making. Most athletes try to push themselves harder because you feel stronger when really you are not If an athlete decides to push themself further than they do in practice, they are more likely to hurt themself or others because they have never practiced with that level of rigor before. It can lead athletes to overshoot their abilities, for example a runner sacrificing their running form because they are unable to recognize their own exhaustion or injury from the adrenaline rush To athletes, adrenaline may seem harmless in the long run, but athletes forget that adrenaline is still a “stress response ” When an athlete activates their stress response too often it can lead to later lifecomplications like increased cardiac risk, decreased recovery rates from rigorous activity, and mental illness or low self-esteem.
WRITTEN BY NAMI SY

Adrenaline affects not only physical changes to your body, but also mental Because adrenaline is a stress response, it can manifest itself as anxiety for athletes. This is why athletes start to make unusual mistakes since they are physically overcompensating for a mental obstacle Suppose that a cheerleader has to perform in front of her whole school Her nerves spike because of the anxiety to look good so she tries to jump higher than usual causing more potential for injury. When these mistakes happen, most of the time we think to ourselves, “That was such a stupid decision” or “Why did I do that.” You have to remember, you can’t stop the adrenaline: it’s a physiological function, but it is something you can endure and learn how to manage
The saying “mind over matter” is a very corny phrase, but it’s actually a really successful mindset to have. The first step in improving your performance is acknowledging before your game that your adrenaline will be pumping If you know in the back of your mind, you are more likely to notice your heart beating faster, your temperature increasing, your muscles fatiguing or your blood flow changing in the middle of your game. The most common way to calm yourself down is through breathing exercises Taking long, slow breaths instead of short, fast breaths will stop your heart from racing uncontrollably, and give it a chance to restore your body back to a reasonable functioning state Pro athletes who have a planned breathing pattern to lean on are able to curb the effects of an adrenaline rush in minutes. Another solution is to simply take care of your body Having a balanced diet, avoiding drugs and alcohol, and exercising normally are common ways that will reduce the adrenaline in your body

Being able to calm yourself down in the middle of a game is a great skill, but in order to be at peak performance, an athlete should be able to maintain mindfulness from the get-go This type of mature management can be done through something called “visualization.” Whether you do it intentionally, all athletes will mentally rehearse the possible outcomes since everyone thinks in pictures By visualizing your successes you are creating a script for how your next play is going to go When athletes visualize a successful event, they are also stimulating the same part of the brain that they are when they perform that action. By visualizing, you can eliminate some of the unknowns of your sport that are created by competitive anxiety. Imagine yourself from a first person perspective doing the task that you are most nervous about It may seem insignificant, but the most important aspect of practices and games is trusting yourself and your ability to do your sport You know what you are doing, so focus on having fun and trying your best instead of what could go wrong or whether you win or lose.

The actors are all over the place. The equipment is a mess. The clashes are inevitable. The clock is ticking In 90 minutes, it’s time for Saturday Night
For the uninformed, Saturday Night is a film retelling of the debut episode of, for lack of a better word, iconic sketch show Saturday Night Live, which some of you might have seen on television, and most of you have probably seen from clips on Twitter It’s helmed by Jason Reitman, whose past movies such as Juno and Up in the Air have been praised heavily for being excellent comedically while tackling interesting topics in a lighthearted yet emotional manner, such as teen pregnancy and different lifestyles Suffice to say, this director is talented in his material and how he brings style, heart, and most vitally, wit to his projects.
So naturally, when it was announced he would be helming this very unique project, people were excited. Gradually more and more people got added to the cast and crew, and the name of the movie even changed (it was originally SNL 1975). Until finally, on the 49th anniversary of the actual SNL’s first episode, it was released to the general public. And in my opinion, it absolutely ruled It was a sensational, invigorating event with everything both going wrong and right at the same time.
Film review and writer Zoe Rose Bryant said it best, “Hollywood, meet your new A-list.” This is a movie that hinges on its ensemble, and the ensemble is flawless in its acting and character work. Besides bringing out some phenomenal performances, such as Cory Michael Chase being a big charismatic highlight or Lamorne Morris deftly weaving his way around the studio, the casting choice acts as a lovely parallel to the actual history Like the unknown comedians propelling to fame through SNL, I have hope that this movie will be the gas starter to the fire of their careers. For example, Gabriel Labelle killed it as Lorne Michaels, the producer of SNL and lead actor, and combined with this plus his lead role in 2022’s The Fabelmanns, it’s a no-brainer to bet on his stardom A lot of these actors just recently started out on the big screen: Rachel Sennott with the bombshells of 2022’s Bodies Bodies Bodies and 2023’s Bottoms, Cooper Hoffman’s well-received debut with 2021’s Licorice Pizza, Andrew Barth Feldman in 2023’s No Hard Feelings; hell some of these actors debuted in this movie The bottom line is, most of these actors are just starting out, and to see them thrive in this environment so much just like SNL is absolutely magical. I saw the charm, I saw stress, I saw some incredibly accurate and hilarious portrayals of comedy legends from physicality to voice; in short, I saw community.

This movie’s technicals and overall essence of that era felt so right, with the technology like the array of old school TVs and muted yet distinct costuming hitting that 70s feeling of something new on the horizon. I also want to praise the makeup and hairstyling; it has a very, and I mean this with a lot of positivity, sweaty and overworked feel, especially with Gabriel Labelle That dude definitely seems like he’s running something big for the first time on the mattedness of his hair ALONE Nicolas Braun also blended in perfectly as Jim Henson, especially with the makeup and hairstyling; it was like a one to one recreation of the man (although that portrayal has been under scrutiny for being made fun of a lot, so take that what you will; in my opinion, that’s more of a writing issue) Personally, I’m hoping for recognition for its production design and makeup, as well as its buttery smooth score by Jon Batiste, past Oscar winner as well as a fellow cast member. Although I will say, the score is another case of “better to listen to in the movie than outside of it” for me.
Going back to the writing, besides the admittedly iffy portrayal of Jim Henson, it’s real quality, going from one storyline to another without feeling clogged or overdone, and keeping a frenetic, high-energy pace throughout. There are about 4 concurrent arcs covering a slew of characters, with a deft balance of it all throughout, making for something equally well-done and entertaining. A lot of the jokes do land pretty damn hard, both original and adapted from the actual episode. Not everything lands, like I can recognize when a piece of the dialogue felt iffy or something didn’t hit as hard as it could’ve, but there was a euphoric buzzing among the witty retorts and heated arguments, and it was stupendous
There’s a lot more that I wanna praise, like how there’s usually always action in the scene even in the background, like characters moving props or talking to others. Or how the production of the movie sounded like a lovely time, with workers and extras just walking around and taking in the glorious set Or also how it apparently captures both the feeling of being on set and creating art incredibly well (as gushed on by reviewer Emily Aguila as well as SNL alum Dan Ackroyd) But to cap it off, I wanna tackle something I’ve heard about this movie Some major critiques I’ve heard over this movie have been towards the fact that we, as the audience, should already know how this’ll end. Saturday Night Live has been running for almost 50 years, and you’re expected to believe that it might not air? I’m aware that it’s a fairly big suspension of disbelief, but in my case, stretch it as much as you want! This movie is more so about the journey, how all the complicated pieces of this bustling and sprawling puzzle eventually fit together, and how characters grow and adapt and learn over the movie.

Simply put, go watch on the big screen, especially with a packed crowd You’re gonna have a hell of a time witnessing this beautiful cavalcade of sensational comedy and wit, all coming from you live with Saturday Night.

Governor Newsom signs legislation to limit the use of ...Governor of California (.gov)https://www.gov.ca.gov › ... › Category: Recent News

In a world where phones are almost an essential part of life, what would happen if that amenity was taken away for six hours everyday, five days a week? According to California Governor, Gavin Newsom, that is what awaits all schools in California. The article named “Governor Newsom signs legislation to limit the use of smartphones during school hours”, published on September 23, 2024, outlines the overall aspect of Assembly Bill 3216, also known as the Phone-Free School Act Starting July 1, 2026, every school district will be required to prohibit the use of smartphones altogether. This bill was created and signed in an attempt to “minimize distractions and foster a more conducive environment for our students to learn” due to the ever growing number of teenagers becoming more and more addicted to their phones (Governor Newsom signs). As well as a quote from Newsom himself reading “This new law will help students focus on academics, social development, and the world in front of them, not their screens, when they’re in school” further displaying the urgency to put this act into effect (Governor Newsom signs) How will this affect school life and what challenges will come with it?
Sra. McCoy Interview:
Q: There’s news that there will be a phone ban effective July 1, 2026. How do you think this will affect the school?
A: It will be an overall positive thing, students do not realize how distracting their phones are and as a teacher, I believe that students will learn to live without phones
Q: What will you expect to see in students?
A: I hope to see them interacting with each other and their learning more It feels like it will be hard to break away from constant phone use, but if it is achieved it will have a positive affect
Q: Do you think this change is positive or negative? Is it a setback or a step forward in terms of education as a whole?
A: Yes, it’s a positive I believe it is a step forward in a process of having students think for themselves more and to learn how to learn effectively instead of searching nearly everything up!

This interview is with Sebastian Perez and Alec Grabowski, two students from Marina with their opinions on the phone ban
Sebastian’s Interview:
Q:On an average how much do you think you use your phone during school and why do you use your phone during the school day
A: I use my phone during school on average for about 3/4ths an hour a day, and I mainly use it to listen to music once I'm done with class work, and to call my mother to pick me up.
Q: How do you feel that at some point phones will be banned at school
A: I feel like it is a necessary evil I say this because most lower ranking students tend to stay glued to their phone throughout the day, and in cases of emergency, there are physical phones on campus Even if all campus phones are gone, teachers have phones, and are able to alert authorities. You will not need to message your family if you are in danger, that does you no good
Q: Do you think this will have a positive impact on majority of students or negative
A: Initially it will have a negative impact, as phones are an addiction, leading to withdrawals, but after enough time students will learn to be independent of their phones, leading to an increase in productivity after a few weeks
Alec’s interview:
Q:On an average how much do you think you use your phone during school and why do you use your phone during the school day
A: At school, I tend to use my phone for about an hour at most mainly because I either finished my work and I'm bored or I'm listening to music while doing work
Q: How do you feel that at some point phones will be banned at school.
A: I think it's an excessive but necessary action on the widespread attachment to phones However, I think it's important to consider safety, for example, calling family in an emergency rather than the office calling all 500+ families Also, most people use Life 360 to keep track of their kids and make sure they're safe, without phones if there is an emergency, especially in America, families may experience anxiety if an emergency arises.
Q: Do you think this will have a positive impact on majority of students or negative
A: Positive, since students today are addicted to their phones, banning them will help students' time management and allow them to be more efficient students. Along with this, I think it will make class time more efficient since students will not be as distracted
Overall, there are many mixed opinions about this bill It's obvious that this was passed with good intentions, for students to focus on their work and teachers to be able to get into the students minds without them being distracted on other matters. Students here at Marina use their phones for many reasons. Phones have made life at school very convenient to communicate with others in and outside school Students have also used phones for entertainment, which to some think is distracting them from school work. There's not enough information to say confidently how the process will go and how long it will last before change. But, what is for sure is that this controversial bill will be very important to history and may soon follow a nation wide act that will change many students' school life forever

We're currently in the depths of an election year with the primary candidates being Kamala Harris (Democrat) and Donald Trump (Republican). Both candidates have various policies that they would put in place if they were the next elected president. It’s important to look at what each candidate plans to enforce and how they plan to do so

One of Kamala Harris’ top priorities, if she were to be elected, would be to focus on lowering food and housing costs due to inflation (BBC News). Along with this Harris also plans to “provide incentives to increase housing supply” (BBC News). Harris is also focusing on abortion rights in order to “enshrine reproductive rights nationwide,” according to BBC News She plans on doing this by working with Congress to pass a federal bill and put a stop to the Hyde Amendment The Hyde Amendment began in 1977 and made it so federal funds were banned from paying for abortions (ACLU). With the increasing number of school shootings across America, Harris also plans to limit access to guns Although Harris is against guns, it does not mean she is going to ban them especially since she is a gun owner herself.
Republican candidate, Donald Trump, also wants to decrease inflation, in fact, he even promised to “end inflation and make America affordable again”(BBC). Although Trump stated that he wants to “end inflation,” he also wants to put a higher tax on imports, which can potentially make prices higher. Along with this, Trump also stated he wants to lower interest rates which he would not have control over as president While Harris made it clear that she advocates for abortion rights, Trump was inconsistent on the matter making it hard to evaluate what he will do for or against abortion rights. In terms of guns, Trump refers back to the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms Trump also did not speak openly about his actions against gun violence, however, he did state that he is against gun violence in America.
