THE CONTINUIST PRESENTS:

BLOOMERS

Hi there!

We are presenting to you a zine put together by the Continuist, Ryerson’s Creative Collective. As a change of pace we decided to expose you to a more private side of ourselves and our friends. So here’s us providing you with the most exposure possible before it gets a little too personal. If you would like to submit to our next zine, send your submissions in any format or medium to thecontinuist@gmail.com. Check out other artwork and a little more about us at thecontinuist.com. Warm regards, The editors of

RATBATH

------------------------88------------------------88---------------------------88---My building is underwater. But the water isn’t running and I’m sitting in the buzzing silence thinking about my arms, and how the insides of a city pigeon must be mangled, a twisted mess with the way they peck at everything.

My mind is a rubber band, and I’m thinking of sheets of ice and people skating and holding hands and drinking warm things but I want to write something real and not this not now not here, not something that makes my legs feel heavy and tapes them to the bottom of my spine, the insides of a cold river. My room is blue. My kitchen is blue. The hallway behind my door is blue. So I drift and I speak mundane words through the water; I like the silence of my voice, lips bruised like purple velvet.

I feel your legs twist through the space between my legs just like the nerve endings in a human brain. I think of people doing exactly what we’re doing, swimming inside their heads, taking their underwear off or putting it on, crying about nothing or about something or maybe not even crying at all. In light of this, can you imagine all the things people are doing right now which we can’t understand? Quirks and accents and people building things, shaking hands, people sitting in foreign places dreaming in foreign languages, starting small fires in their backyards.

So take off your underwear and I’ll follow. And our bodies in mid-water dance will be proof of togetherness, a strange interconnection like the first breath you took, fleeting and precious. Laura Rojas

They go on before my pants. They are underpants. They go under my pants. Remember this. After my pants. No. Under my pants. Before my pants and under. Under the pants I put on before, and after the pants under. -But what if I get an itch?Well, then I shall scratch it. -Will it be under or before?Under or before what? -The itch.Oh. Itch both for good measure, and then itch under, over, under, over. When in Rome itch like the Romans do. -Did the Romans wear pants?Under their skirts, but over their under pants, I'm sure.
